The  Talking Through The Medias opening toss up story.

Longtime Inside Edition anchor Deborah Norville is exiting the syndicated CBS newsmagazine after 30 years.

Norville announced the decision on the program Wednesday, telling viewers that she would leave at the end of the current season.

“They made me a lovely offer to stay, but there are things I’d like to do and places I want to do them that continuing here doesn’t permit,” Norville said on the show. “So, at the end of the season, I’ll be moving on. I’ve got some exciting things in the works, which I’ll talk about later, but what I want to say now is what a privilege it’s been to lead Inside Edition for all these years. To work with the incredibly talented team here, and to be invited into your homes every day, it’s an honor I don’t take lightly.”

Norville has been a staple on TV sets each weekday afternoon for decades, delivering Inside Edition’s trademark mix of entertainment, true crime, lifestyle and tabloid news segments and stories to viewers. The show is distributed by CBS Media Ventures and is based in New York City.

“Deborah’s powerful presence, both on-screen and behind-the-scenes, has contributed immensely to the success of Inside Edition for the past 30 years,” the show’s executive producer Charles Lachman said in a statement. “She has made a lasting impact on the show, and I’m excited to follow along as she builds upon her outstanding broadcast legacy in her next chapter."

Norville isn’t leaving CBS altogether, however. The network previously announced that Norville will host a new game show starting this fall called The Perfect Line.

An African solar tricycle startup.

In Zimbabwe, an Africa-born mobility startup is providing women with the catalyst they need to drive change in their community and society.

Called the Hamba, this durable electric tricycle is mobilizing a generation of working women and mothers, allowing them to perform arduous tasks with relative ease and comfort.

Manufactured in Africa and managed by the startup Mobility for Africa (MFA), a leasing program for women allowed one or several locals to lease a Hamba for $15 a month. This pilot program was a huge success, and now these electric tricycles are available to buy, on a lease-to-purchase agreement, and to rent—all on an ad-hoc basis.

It allows women to fetch water and firewood, take family members to medical facilities, or bring and buy produce at local markets, saving sometimes dozens of miles of walking each day.

“In the past transporting our produce to the market was a nightmare we would wake up at 3 am and travel a very long distance using an ox-drawn cart but now it is much easier we can reach the market on time,” a 34-year-old tomato farmer and mother of six, Hilda Takadini, told Africa News.

92% of female customers participating in the company’s pilot program noted an improvement in how safe they feel whilst traveling since they started using the Hamba compared with walking, and some have offered their services as couriers and drivers to other community members, sparking the spirit of entrepreneurialism.

70% of the Hambas are reserved for women, and 300 are estimated to currently own or rent one. The solar-powered trikes have just one moving part in the motor, making them easy to maintain and fix. Batteries can be exchanged when depleted at a cost of $5.00 at one of Infraco Africa’s solar power stations, a partner with MFA on the initiative.

Each Hamba can carry 1,000 pounds or so of cargo, and have a top speed of 37 mph (you couldn’t go much faster on a rural Zimbabwe road anyway).

And commiserations to......

Learning | April 9, 2025

I am a US history teacher and have created a game for my eighth-grade students inspired by the card game “Werewolf”. The students are each given a card that says their role at the top and their party affiliation (Federalist or Democratic-Republican) at the bottom. Since the game relies on deception, the assassins have to lie about their parties to appeal to one side or the other, so their cards say, “Affiliation: Unknown”.

I have just revealed that [Student #3] was the victim, and the townsfolk are deciding who to accuse of being the assassin.

Student #1: “It has to be [Student #2]. He keeps giggling like he’s trying to keep a secret.”

Student #2: “Nuh-uh! What reason would I have to kill [Student #3]?”

Me: “Well, the goal of the game is to eliminate your party opponents and save members of your own party. What political party did [Student #3] belong to?”

Student #3: “Federalist.”

Me: “Ah, so we’re probably looking for a Democratic-Republican. [Student #2], what party are you?”

Student #2: “Uh… I don’t know.”

Student #1: “It says on the bottom of the card.”

Student #2: “My card just says, ‘Unknown’.”

Me: *Hinting* “Are you sure? You’re allowed to lie and tell us anything that might make you seem innocent.”

Student #2: “No, right here, it just says that my affiliation is unknown.”

Student #1: “What does it say at the top of your card?”

Student #2: “Assassin.”

Cue a chorus of amused and exasperated groans.

Student #4: “Dude, you just told us you’re the assassin. Are you actually stupid?”

Student #2: “But that’s what my card says!”

So one got expelled and the other to the head of the class and instead of Pomp and Circumstance, it's this.

(Canned applause)

Let Sea Battle commence. TF1 has ordered a new primetime gameshow based on a classic ship-sinking strategy game. The naval battle is transported to a large studio in the show for the French broadcaster.

Teams will answer general knowledge questions to earn shots at their rivals’ boats, which are represented by human contestants on a massive set. The more boats sunk, the bigger the cash prize.

The producers said the Sea Battle format was inspired by the ‘Bataille Navale’ board game. In turn, that is based upon the classic pen-and-paper strategy game in which players place their fleet of ships on a grid of paper that their opponent cannot see and then take turns trying to locate and sink each other’s vessels.

The TV format was created by Moe Bennani, former Talpa exec and Co-Founder of Dreamspark, the France-based formats outfit. It will co-produce the show with Arthur Essebag’s indie Satisfaction Group.

“Sea Battle is the perfect blend of strategy, suspense, and pure entertainment—bringing the thrill of the classic board game to life like never before,” said Essebag, who will host the show. “With high stakes, dynamic gameplay, and a spectacular set, audiences are in for an unforgettable experience.”

The pen-and-paper game is thought to have originated in France around the time of World War I and numerous board games have been marketed since based on the concept. Dreamspark has secured rights to the ‘Bataille Navale’ name in France. Milton Bradley (since acquired by Hasbro) launched a version of the game in the 1960s — ‘Battleship’ — with plastic pegs that became popular in the U.S. and elsewhere. It spawned a 2012 movie as well as videogames and other merch.

France’s TF1 is one of Europe’s largest broadcasters and its order for Sea Battle will bring it to the attention of other buyers. Dreamspark is now launching the format internationally.
