A Choice of Idols

Stephanie Panisello: From Coast to Coast, Shore to Shore, Border to Border and beyond the far reaches of our galaxy's solar system, it's time to go all the way live on....

Now here is America's favorite contestant, Pierre Kelly!!!!!

Me: Thank you Stephanie Panisello, and we say hello to  Game show Live! As live as it gets, as live as it happens and as live whenever you feel like it.

Today's program is presented this month by Edible Arrangements. If you still need a Valentine's day gift, there's still time. Head on over to and get your gift your honey missed out on yesterday. So with that plug, let's turn off Adele's new album and turn on the live goodness. Kicking things off......

    The Opening Toss-Up story.

When Fox took away American Idol for good, all of America had to breathe.....but then this happened.

Less than a year after its 15-season run ended on Fox, American Idol may be returning to television — on NBC.
Per Variety, which first broke the news, Fremantle Media — which produces Idol — pitched Peacock execs a revival of the long-running singing competition. NBC is said to be seriously considering the idea, and, according to Variety, could cut The Voice down from two cycles a year to one to make room for it.

Following a Summer 2002 debut season that averaged 12 million total viewers, Idol at its zenith (Season 5) was pulling north of 30 million viewers and as 12.0+ demo rating. Its farewell (or “farewell”) run on Fox averaged 9.1 million viewers and a 2.2 rating.
At the Television Critics Association press tour last year, Idol‘s longtime host Ryan Seacrest didn’t rule out the possibility of a revival. “When you’ve got a franchise that has this kind of heritage and you’ve got a franchise that generates X amount of millions of people, if it sustains, does that mean it’s the end?” he said. “I’m not so sure.”

If only ABC swapped SYTYCD from Fox.

Let's just take a break. And I don't mean break as in what happens when you drop your bowling trophy. Up next, Survivor is changing. Really.  That's on the way, but first...

If you ever wanted to get back at your exes, here's something I'll know you'll enjoy.

Welcome back to Game Show Live! Later, someone here from Gradius Airlines will talk about why this pilot got kicked out of a flight for ranting about Trump and what you should do to avoid getting kicked out.

But let's talk Survivor first. CBS announced today the 20 castaways who will compete against each other on SURVIVOR, when the Emmy Award-winning series returns for its 34th season with a special two-hour premiere, Wednesday, March 8 (8:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Notably, the season premiere marks the 500th episode of the series.
"When we started this adventure, I don't think anybody would have predicted we'd still be going strong 17 years later!" said host and executive producer Jeff Probst. "I'm as enthusiastic as ever and love the relationship we have with our audience. I think SURVIVOR fans are really going to enjoy this season."

In the summer of 2000, the premiere of SURVIVOR introduced a mentally challenging, physically demanding and strategically complex adventure series to television. This spring's edition, themed "Game Changers," will feature 20 returning castaways who helped evolve the game even further by launching an accelerated level of competition and proven willingness to risk it all in order to become the Sole Survivor. These castaways who have made some of the biggest moves in the history of the game will be divided into two groups of 10 and forced to compete against each other with the same ultimate goal: to outwit, outplay and outlast each other. The show, filmed in the Mamanuca Islands in Fiji, is hosted by Emmy Award winner Jeff Probst.

The following are the 20 returning castaways, including the previously announced two-time winner Sandra Diaz-Twine; fan-favorites Cirie Fields, Ciera Easton and Tai Trang; challenge dominator Ozzy Lusth; Cagayan winner Tony Vlachos; Millennial stand-out Michaela Bradshaw; and Caleb Reynolds, who was medically evacuated from his earlier season.

Ring around the rosey, a pocketful of....answers?

This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield has landed his very own new ITV game show called 5 Gold Rings, and it's coming this year.
The interactive game will put two teams up against each other over five rounds, with one team winning up to £25,000 and the other will leaving with nothing – and it's all decided using five gold rings.

The teams must answer questions by placing gold rings onto a large image displayed under their feet on a huge circular LED floor.

So for example, if the picture is a map of the world with the question, 'Where is the highest mountain on earth?' teams have to place a gold ring on the image where they think the answer is.

If it's correct, teams can keep their ring – the name of the game is to keep the three French hens five gold rings as once players have lost them all, it's game over.

And good news for competitive viewers – you'll be able to play along by downloading the 5 Gold Rings app, which will allow you to answer the same questions as the contestants in the studio and see how your scores match up with other players across the country.

"I love the whole concept of this show. It's such a simple idea. The longer you stay in the game, the smaller the rings get," Phillip Schofield said.
"It looks amazing and anyone of any age can play. I can't wait to get started!"

On your marks, let's start, the family......Chase? Yes, that's right, ITV has commissioned ITV Studios’ Potato to produce The Family Chase, a new version of the hit game show The Chase that has aired in more than ten countries worldwide.

Each episode of The Family Chase looks on as a different family tries to stay one step ahead of the chaser for the chance to win a cash prize. Contestants must answer a series of general-knowledge questions in order to get ahead. The six-episode show is due to debut on ITV later this year.

The Family Chase was commissioned by Helen Warner, with Potato’s Michael Kelpie, Martin Scott and Helen Tumbridge serving as executive producers. The format is distributed internationally by ITV Studios Global Entertainment.

Michael Kelpie, the managing director at Potato, commented: “Bringing four family members together to face the chaser brings a whole new dynamic to the most successful game show currently on TV. They know each other’s strengths and weaknesses, they’ve discussed a strategy beforehand, but of course that can all mean nothing when they go face-to-face against one of the U.K.’s finest quiz brains.”

He added: “The Family Chase compliments both the daytime weekday and celebrity prime-time shows. With even more fun and banter between [host] Bradley [Walsh], chasers and the families, it still delivers all the core values that has made The Chase a firm favorite with the viewers.”  No word yet on when GSN will have it. For real.

No apes here. Apple is producing a new TV game show called “Planet of the Apps”. Its concept revolves around app developers and their struggles in the industry. The main concept of the show is to give app developers a chance to pitch their work to a jury of four celebrity entrepreneurs. The jury consists of Jessica Alba,, Gwyneth Paltrow and Gary Vaynerchuk. New Zealand-based DJ Zane Lowe will host.

If the jury decides that the app has potential, one of them could tutor the developer and help them prepare the software for investors. Then comes the final step, in which the developers have to present their idea to investors. And successful apps will not only earn millions of dollars in capital, but also featured placement in the App Store.

The show will be available through Apple Music on Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, PC and Mac. There is no solid release date just yet, but Eddy Cue, Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services at Apple, said it will be launching “in the spring”.  See GSN, you tried that new show "Breaking App" didn't work. Guess whose laughing now, people?

America might still have talent, but Nick Cannon will no longer be overseeing it.
The “Drumline” actor, who has hosted NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” for the past eight seasons, announced in a lengthy Facebook post Monday that he would not be returning to the reality competition series.

Cannon made the decision to exit the franchise amid controversy over a racially charged joke he told in his recent Showtime stand-up special “Stand Up, Don’t Shoot.” According to Cannon, executives at NBC believed he “disparaged the brand” and later threatened to terminate his contract.

“After days of deliberating over some extremely disappointing news that I was being threatened with termination by Executives because of a comedy special that was only intended to bring communities closer together, I was to be punished for a joke,” he wrote on Instagram and Facebook. “This has weighed heavy on my spirit. It was brought to my attention by my ‘team’ that NBC believed that I was in breach of contract because I had disparaged their brand. In my defense, I would ask how so? Or is this just another way to silence and control an outspoken voice who often battles the establishment.”

In his stand-up special, which premiered on Showtime Friday, Cannon reportedly riffs on his experience hosting “America’s Got Talent” and how the series has changed his core fanbase.

“I find myself in a dark place having to make a decision that I wish I didn’t have to, but as a man, an artist, and a voice for my community, I will not be silenced, controlled or treated like a piece of property,” he continued in the post. “There is no amount of money worth my dignity or my integrity. I have loved hosting AMERICAS GOT TALENT for the last 8 seasons, watching talented, brave, and courageous Americans accomplish their dreams in front of millions has been nothing but a joy, and everyone has been a pleasure to work with but my soul won’t allow me to be in business with corporations that attempt to frown on freedom of speech, censor artists, and question cultural choices.”

Barely a day after the host appeared to quit the competition show, NBC executives are keeping their fingers crossed that he’ll be back, according to TMZ.
While Cannon’s rant certainly doesn’t look promising for the chance he’ll return when production for the show starts next month, the execs are holding off on looking for a replacement host. My money is on Jerry Springer.

On a more lighter note......

After 33 seasons and years of mounting criticism, ABC has finally cast a black lead for it’s hit television show The Bachelorette.
Rachel Lindsay, a 31-year-old attorney from Texas and current contestant on The Bachelor, will be announced as the next Bachelorette on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday night, the Reality Steve website first reported. The news follows years of criticism over its lack of diversity.

Channing Dungey, the network’s entertainment president and first black woman to run a broadcast entertainment division, said that producers needed to start with booking more diverse candidates from the beginning of the series.

"It’s worked very well for us because the audiences feel really engaged [in choosing] that candidate" she said at the 2016 Television Critics Association's summer press tour. "What we’d like to do is broaden that. We need to increase the pool of diverse candidates in the beginning. That is something we really want to put some effort and energy toward."
An industry insider close to the show told Vulture that ABC didn’t mind spoiling Lindsey’s current run on The Bachelor as long as they got ahead of websites who work to spoil the show.

This oughta be fun.

They say good love is hard to find.....but.....

most dates end in a disaster. Introducing.....

Relationship Disasters. A month of disastrous TV shows involving dating.
Today's relationship disaster: The Choice. Where do we begin? Well, the first round was ripped off from another reality program, The Voice. To show you what I mean, here's an actual blind audition from the late great Christina Grimmie.
May she rest in peace. Back to the choice. Each celebrity contestant has the length of the possible suitor's time (about thirty seconds) to decide if he or she is interested in going out with that person. Each celebrity contestant must select three people to choose to be on their team (celebrities who have already selected their three potential dates still have to wait until after the contestant has finished giving their first impression to see them). The contestants turn their chairs to signify that they are interested in going out with that person; if two or more of the celebrity contestants want the same person (as happens frequently), the prospective date has the final choice of which celebrity they would be most interested in going out with.
The second phase of the competition is the speed dating round, in which the celebrities find out more about their three potential dates. The male and female contestants are rotated to meet each other and have usually around fifteen seconds to ask questions about the other person. At the end of each interval, the individual celebrity contestant's chair is turned around to signal the next two participants to start their interview. At the end of the round, each celebrity must eliminate one contestant.
The third and final round involves the two remaining contestants (who are brought out one at a time) being asked a single question, in which they give their opinion about a particular topic relating to their interests, families or personal lives. After both contestants have given their answer, the celebrity contestant's chair is turned to allow them to make the decision about who they are most interested in dating, each celebrity then must come onstage to reveal to the host, audience and the remaining contestants, which of the two they have chosen to go out on a date with.
Oh, and Cat Deeley was there for the ride, but alas, it was just one season in 2012. But Cat still does it on SYTYCD. But it was a wise choice to make it a....
