  The whatstrending.com Opening Toss-Up story.

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) today announced that two legendary Hollywood icons, Mary Hart, former host of “Entertainment Tonight,” and Harry Friedman, producer of two of the most successful game shows in television history, “Jeopardy!” and “Wheel of Fortune,” will be honored with Lifetime Achievement Awards this year. Friedman will receive his at the 44th Daytime Creative Arts Emmy® Awards on Friday, April 28th, 2017. Hart will be honored on Sunday, April 30th, 2017 at the 44th Daytime Emmy® Awards. Both presentations will take place at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Southern California.
“The entire country, including me, fell in love with Mary Hart from her very first broadcast of 'Entertainment Tonight,'” said Bob Mauro, President, NATAS. “Mary's charm, wit, smile and intelligence made her the most trusted anchor in the genre of entertainment news. Her ability to make even the biggest stars comfortable made audiences welcome her and 'ET' into their homes. Harry Friedman has produced the two most iconic game shows in the country if not the world. His constant tweaking of show formats and the addition of the latest technologies has kept 'Jeopardy!' and 'Wheel of Fortune,' at the top of syndicated television with no end in sight. The National Academy could not be prouder to honor both of these extraordinary television stars with our Lifetime Achievement Award.”

"Harry Friedman is a force unto himself that has taken the game show world and reinvented it for the 21st Century as well as being, perhaps, the nicest man in show business,” said David Michaels, SVP, Daytime (NATAS). "With Friedman joined by Mary Hart, the woman who set the bar for those that followed in the entertainment news genre, as our Lifetime Achievement honorees, we are looking forward to two incredible celebrations of the world of Daytime television this year. Add to that the move to the historic and elegant Pasadena Civic Auditorium to host both shows and I believe this will be one of the most celebratory and exciting Daytime Emmy Award shows in a long time!”

“The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is excited to be moving our signature show to the historic Pasadena Civic Center,” said Chuck Dages, Chairman, NATAS. “With its grand lobby and world class architecture, it is a fitting location for the 44th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.”

“We are thrilled to welcome the Daytime Emmys to the City of Pasadena and the Pasadena Civic Auditorium,” said Michael Ross, CEO, Pasadena Center Operating Company. “It is an honor to host this significant occasion as the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences recognizes the exceptional work of daytime broadcasting.”

A native of Omaha, Neb., Friedman developed an early fascination with television programming and personalities, including a young, local celebrity named Johnny Carson. Long before the concept of student internships was created, Friedman began hanging around Omaha's first television stations, learning by watching and doing whatever management permitted. While attending the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Friedman also worked as a reporter and feature writer for the Lincoln Star newspaper.

In 1971, Friedman arrived in Los Angeles and, without contacts, gave himself six months to find a job in the business. With less than 24 hours remaining on his self- imposed deadline, he talked his way into a part-time question-writer spot on Hollywood Squares, marking the beginning of his long, valued relationship with Heatter-Quigley Productions. Over the following 11 years, Friedman wrote and produced thousands of episodes of the popular series and was also actively involved in the development of several other game shows, including Gambit and High Rollers.

He first joined Wheel of Fortune as a producer in 1995, adding producer duties for JEOPARDY! in 1997. In 1998, he helped launch Rock & Roll JEOPARDY, which aired on the VH1 network. Friedman's other writing and producing credits range from network primetime specials, such as American Yearbook for CBS, to documentaries and home video. He also has worked with such companies as FOX, Dick Clark Productions, Stephen J. Cannell Productions, Buena Vista Television/ABC, Orion Television, The Playboy Channel, Laurel Entertainment, Vin Di Bona Productions, A&E Network, Krofft Productions, Rosner Television and Four Star Productions.

Under Friedman's direction, the hit series JEOPARDY! has become the most honored syndicated game show in television history. In 2011, Friedman guided JEOPARDY! to win its first-ever Peabody Award. The awards panel credited the show for its role in “encouraging, celebrating and rewarding knowledge.” JEOPARDY! has won a total of 33 Emmy Awards, including the 2015 Emmy for Outstanding Game Show.

Friedman has continued to broaden the show's scope with an expanded list of challenging categories and clues that reflect popular culture and also a variety of special tournaments. In 2003, he lifted JEOPARDY!'s five-day limit rule for contestants, allowing returning champions to continue amassing winnings as long as they remain victorious. This rule change led the way for the memorable 74-consecutive-day run of Utah software engineer Ken Jennings, during which he won a record $2.5 million. Series viewership increased an impressive 30 percent during the streak, at times outperforming primetime programs while making it one of the most talked-about shows in the country.

Friedman's work on Hollywood Squares, Wheel of Fortune and JEOPARDY! has earned him multiple Emmy® Awards and three Guinness World Records® records. He is the Guinness World Record holder for most game show episodes produced with 11,128 (as of March 31, 2016), most Emmy® Award nominations for a game show producer with 42 and most Emmy® Award wins by a game show producer with 13. In 2011, Wheel of Fortune and JEOPARDY! tied for the Outstanding Game Show award, and Friedman became the first producer ever to win two Emmys in the same category in a tie with himself.
In 2007, Friedman was honored by the National Association of Television Program Executives with the prestigious Brandon Tartikoff Legacy Award. Later that year, he was inducted into the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame. Just goes to show you 2 syndicated game shows can give you a lot of awards and international flair.

Welcome back to Game Show Live! Later on in the show, we will talk to Garth Rimple, the host of Grimsborough This Afternoon to talk about why late night talk show hosts get political.

Before that happens, One player on Wheel of Fortune wanted to solve an easy puzzle which was "Things" and it would be a good time for a gimmie.....right?

Wanna get advisers for a popular singing contest? Well, John Legend, Luke Bryan and DJ Khaled have all reportedly signed on to serve as team advisers for The Voice's upcoming twelfth season. Legend, a 38-year-old singer and pianist who has won 10 Grammy Awards, will be working with coach Adam Levine's team next season, E! News reported.

Team advisers guide and give advice to contestants during the show's infamous "The Battle Round" once "The Blind Auditions" conclude.

Both Legend and Levine are recent first-time fathers. Levine and wife Behati Prinsloo welcomed daughter Dusty Rose in September 2016, while Legend's wife Chrissy Teigen gave birth to their daughter Luna in April. The men and their wives have maintained a friendly relationship through the years.

Bryan, a 40-year-old country star, will be advising coach Blake Shelton's team, according to Us Weekly, and DJ Khaled will be teaming up with coach Alicia Keys for Season 12.

Bryan will be singing the National Anthem at this year's Super Bowl. He has worked with Shelton in the past when the pair co-hosted the Academy of Country Music Awards three years in a row from 2013 to 2015.

DJ Khaled is a 41-year-old record label executive and producer formally known as Khaled Mohamed Khaled from Louisiana. The Internet sensation has released nine studio albums and got his start as a deejay and radio host in Miami, FL.

Such big news comes several hours after iconic singer Celine Dion confirmed she'll be serving as the team adviser for coach Gwen Stefani's team. Although Stefani is replacing Miley Cyrus next season, Cyrus will return for the show's thirteenth edition in Fall 2017.

"To get like the prize right here, everybody's going to be so mad -- the other coaches -- that I got you," Stefani said of Dion on the Today show. "So excited."

While Dion said she believes Stefani is "beautiful all the time," the No Doubt frontwoman gushed, "I am blown away by her unbelievable story. Having this unbelievable gift to be able to speak through music to the whole world."
The Voice's twelfth season is set to premiere on Monday, February 27 at 8PM ET/PT on NBC.

As in the new Russian quiz. Presenter Rylan Neal-Clark is set to host a bizarre new game show, with a specifically Russian theme. According to ITV, which has already commissioned 20 episodes of the show, Babushka will see contestants crack their way through a series of eight giant Russian dolls to tot up a cash prize of up to £44,000.

But the suspense will build as, each time they open an empty doll, they lose all the accumulated money.

ITV Daytime revealed Rylan’s latest role as he gave it a mention himself on This Morning on Monday. And after another weekend of hosting the after-show gossip surrounding the intensifying CBB drama, we’re guessing his new job will provide some light-hearted relief… even though it’s hard to picture where the inspiration came from for this one!

The creators described the show’s premise as a “thrilling combination of knowledge, strategy and pure luck”.

Gary Chippington, head of entertainment at the show’s creators, STV Productions, said: “Like all the best formats, Babushka is simple, addictive and slightly unhinged, and we're really excited to be working with ITV to bring this to their audience.
“Contestants and viewers are going to be gripped as the Babushka dolls reveal some fantastic prizes.”

Today's relationship disaster: The One That Got Away.

How many of you have ever heard of Skipper Kress?

No....okay. What about the show?

Okay then. Let America's favorite contestant give you the 411 on the show.

Back in 2001,
Previously announced as Little Black Book, the series will follow bachelor Skipper Kress as he seeks to rekindle a relationship with one of seven former girlfriends competing for his heart.  But oh, does it go on.
Sharing a house in South Carolina, Skipper and the women will participate in the usual types of reality dating show events, with the series culminating in Skipper's selection of one "exe." "We found the bravest guy in the world who decided to open up his romantic past and take a shot at falling in love all over again," said executive producer Joe Livecchi. "Of course, along the way our bachelor must own up to his actions and say goodbye to six former loves forever. There's no way to prepare for what this guy had to face."
Kress is a 27 year old Charlotte, NC bartender/manager and University of North Carolina at Charlotte graduate whom, difficult as it may seem to believe, NBC claims is known locally as North Carolina's "most eligible bachelor." Then again, perhaps we're alone in assuming that somewhere in the entire state of North Carolina there's a better catch than a former Ponderosa Steak House bartender who was arrested and charged with serving alcohol to a minor in December 2001. After all, who wants to marry a handsome and successful doctor, lawyer, or tech stock millionaire when there's still a guy who can get you into the Sunday all-you-can-eat breakfast bar for free out there.

"This show takes all of the ingredients of great reality television -- the romance, the arguments, the tears and the gut wrenching decisions that change people's lives -- and plays it all out from beginning to end in one emotion packed two hour show" said executive producer Bob Kusbit. "There's no waiting for next week...or the next six weeks. You get it all in one night."
