Chefs in Court

Top Chef is in boiling hot water this week.

Closing arguments were heard today in the trial of four Boston Teamsters accused of attempting to extort driving jobs from the producers of Top Chef three years ago. The case has gone to the jury.

Before a packed courtroom, federal prosecutor Kristina Barclay told the jury that the evidence presented at trial proves beyond a reasonable doubt that the four defendants — all members of Boston’s Teamsters Local 25 — attempted to shake down the show for “unwanted, unneeded and superfluous” services under the “threat of violence and the fear of economic harm.” They threatened to “smash in the pretty face” of the show’s host, Padma Lakshmi, and slashed tires on nine of the show’s production vehicles outside the Steel & Rye restaurant in suburban Milton, where the show was filming.

Defense attorneys, however, told the jurors that there is no evidence that the defendants knowingly tried to extort the show and that their actions on the picket line that day in June 2014 were part of a legitimate labor dispute.

The show’s next location was to be the Omni Parker Hotel, but the unionized hotel withdrew its invitation to film there when its management found out there would be Teamster picketing. Top Chef producers then decided to leave Boston to escape the Teamsters and film the next episode at the Steel & Rye restaurant in nearby Milton. But Local 25 president Sean O’Brien, who is not a defendant in the case, found out about it and told the producers that he’d be sending 50 Teamsters there to picket. Only six showed up on June 10, but producers had a detail of local police to provide protection.

Defense attorney Carmine Lepore told the jury that “the government’s case is built on speculation. They want you to believe this is extortion just because they say so. They haven’t proven it because there is no evidence of extortion.”

Mambo in Italiano

Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd arrived in Italy this week for their honeymoon.

The "Dancing with the Stars" pros shared photos on Wednesday from their getaway to Lake Como -- their first vacation away from their 7-month-old son, Shai Aleksander.
"Lake Como with my love. We were blown away by the beauty! Missing our little Shai - this is our first trip away just the two of us," Murgatroyd captioned a slideshow of photos on Instagram.
"When your bed takes up most of the hotel bedroom and you don't even mind....not even a little bit.... #BecauseComo," Chmerkovskiy added to a picture of Murgatroyd in their hotel bed.
Chmerkovskiy and Murgatroyd tied the knot July 8 at a lavish wedding at Oheka Castle on Long Island. The couple couldn't help but gush about their nuptials in subsequent posts on Instagram

From dancing to singing, it's a 30-second song break with Lilbumblebear which start when I start which is..........

Back to the news.

You better work!

He, er, she, er, whatever may have judged bodypainters or played crew chief to drag queens, but Rupaul is working with famed director J.J. Abrams and streaming service Hulu to delevop a show based on the drag queen icon's life. Maybe Rebecca Romijn could make a cameo in it, who knows?

2, 2 Vienna sausages, ah ah ah!

Vienna Giradi gets a double whammy.........of kids.

They are expecting twin girls come wintertime. Hope they're aren't Thing 1 and Thing 2.

At least WWE was more entertaining.

This past Monday in Montgomery,  the Montgomery Performing Arts Centre announced that Friday's live stage production Hollywood's Greatest Game Shows had been canceled due to low ticket sales.
Those who have already purchased tickets will be given refunds at their point of purchase.
This is a touring show featuring longtime TV game show host Bob Eubanks. It features several games based on classic TV game shows. The finale of the show would have featured a $1 million cash pyramid.

In other words, they stayed home and watch RAW, which IMO was worse. Smackdown Live is #1!

And finally.....

Why is this news?

If you think Bob Barker is dead, well think again. Rumors has circulated and it's false. He is not dead. He is still alive at.......94 years old, people.

Before we get a performance from our Super Password Soul Sister Alyse Black, here's some love & light to take with you.

Now we let her do her thing. Go to it!

That's all for now, but remember one thing:   What are the chances a baby from a DWTS couple would be a pro 20 years from now? I'll say 1 in 25.

So until next time and all the on playas.

Odd Even Steven

Stephanie Panisello: From Coast to Coast, Shore to Shore, Border to Border and beyond the far reaches of our galaxy's solar system, it's time to go all the way live on....

Now here is America's favorite contestant, Pierre Kelly!!!!!

Me: Thank you Stephanie Panisello and I hoped you toweled off because it's Game show Live! As live as it gets, as live as it happens and as live whenever you feel like it.

Today's program is presented this month by Sonic. School has started back so treat yourself to a shake or ice cream to cool off during the heat this season at a Sonic Near you. Hope you're dry because let's get wet with.....

 The Opening Toss-Up story.

We have a Game Show Live! follow along on the Wayneys. Our oddsmakers have been working 8-hour shifts and have the up-to-date odds on the shows. Remind yourselves that this is not for gambling purposes and is for entertainment purposes only and in no reflects those of GSN The Know Industries, Hyperion and Warner Communications or its employees.

IF you picked Save to Win, keep in mind it's the favorite and it's a 2:1 odds pick. What about The Wall? I'd say it's a 25:1 longshot. Yes, a 25:1 longshot, so don't bet on the show that's a hit for NBC. Otherwise, go with Divided. Right now, Divided is 10:1. And with the 2nd season underway, the odds can get higher. The Jeff Varner incident may be a hard pick, but i'll say 5:1. Finally, That's the Word from may be the 2nd best pick yet at get this........50:1. The million to one pick to beat for the Wayney award. So those are the odds for the nominees unless the oddsmakers change their minds for another work day.

This Friday on Livewire!,  Top Chef goes to trial.....for what? Find out Friday  on Livewire!  Catch it here!

Don't split yourself up like Anna Faris and Chris Pratt because when we resume, WOF changes something. That's on the way, but first.....

Saturday Nights in August will never be the same......thanks to this.

(fade to break)

Welcome back to Game Show Live!  Later on, we will discuss the troubles of Usher and why he didn't disclose herpes.

(song fades out)

But we'll start with the changes WHeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeel of Fortune will bring this season.

-There will be a new category called "What Are You Wearing?"

Yes, Wheel has added one for you fashion freaks out there.

-You can now pick your bonus round category (from a choice of three) prior to the round starting.

I'll take a guess as to why Sony took this idea......

Oh yeah, Wheel 2000. A Saturday morning version of America's Game on both CBS and GSN way back in 1997. Hasn't Cyber Lucy gone VR?

-$5k Every Day is gone for good. The bonus now is $10k if the mystery wedge is won that day.

And the last change.....

$35k is the gimmick cash. Yes $35k. Wheel at 35 makes it alive! This fall!

Breaking from the news stuff, I heard someone had a birthday last weekend. So this'll be a perfect time for a special edition of......

So Impressed! with Madi2TheMax. This time, she tag teams with Comix Zone content creator Jordan sailors for a collab. Here is the match Game mistress of impressionism....Madison Brunoehler with....Joeykat!

(canned applause)

Thank you both. Now back to news stuff.

Anyone remember Who's Still Standing with Ben Bailey?.................well............................

Armoza Formats has been commissioned by Greek Broadcaster Antenna TV (ANT1 TV) for the first season of the primetime game show Still Standing.
Created by Israel’s Channel 10 and July-August Productions, Still Standing (60′) offers contestants the chance to win $1-million by out-guessing 10 opponents in 10 fast-paced trivia battles. As time runs out, contestants are dropped from the game, straight through the studio floor.

The studio-based format will make its debut in Greece in September.
Most recently, Still Standing was commissioned in India, while Italy extended its third season.

Spanish broadcaster TVE has greenlit two dramas and an array of entertainment shows for its networks, including the first format co-developed between Barcelona-based Mediapro and Madrid’s Phileas Productions.
Crush is a gameshow in which teams of four people must answer questions by standing on the answers they think are correct, or else they will be ‘crushed’ by locked safes.

The format is distributed by Imagina International Sales, part of the Mediapro Group that appointed long-serving Keshet executive Ran Tellem to its content team last year.

Producers in the US, France and Benelux have already picked up Crush for local adaptation after it debuted at Mipcom last October.
TVE has also ordered another season of Danish format comedy On the Edge, which was first produced by DR for its TV3 network. Known locally as El Forastero, the show sees comedians visiting local communities and is being produced with Barcelona-based prodco Brutal Media.

GSN has a new sheriff in town.

Game Show Network (GSN) announced it has appointed Mark Feldman as its president and CEO.
In picking Feldman, the developer of the Wheel of Fortune slots and Bingo Bash games has chosen an insider to succeed David Goldhill, who is stepping down after a decade running the company, which is co-owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment and AT&T Entertainment Group.

Feldman was previously GSN’s executive vice president and general counsel. GSN consists of GSNTV, a top-40 cable entertainment network distributed to nearly 80 million subscribers, and GSN Games, one of the world’s leading social, mobile, and online games companies.

“GSN TV is unique in the entertainment television landscape in our persistent commitment to our core audience through game show programming in all its forms, including classic, contemporary, and increasingly, interactive shows,” said Feldman in a statement. “GSN Games has become a world leader by providing our players compelling opportunities to play anytime, anywhere, whether on their own or in a huge variety of always available competitions.”

He added, “I am grateful to Sony and AT&T to be entrusted with the challenge of continuing our growth in a rapidly changing media landscape, and I look forward to working closely with them in the days ahead. I could not be more excited to team with GSN’s many outstanding professionals throughout the globe in crafting the next chapter of our development.”

Sony Pictures Television Networks president Andy Kaplan said in a statement, “Mark is a talented leader with a history of success at GSN, and I believe he has the right vision and strategy to achieve future growth in the company’s television and digital games businesses.”
Feldman joined GSN in 2008 and has been responsible for legal and business affairs, business development, and GSN’s innovation lab, 1-800-Nothing.

THE FOUR begins where most competitions end: with the four finalists. Four super-talented and fiercely competitive singers, chosen from their auditions by the show's panel of music industry experts, will try to defend their coveted spots on the stage, as they are challenged individually by new singers determined to replace them. Each week, if any of the four are outperformed, they'll go home and their challengers will take their place.
And those challengers could be fans who had been sitting on a couch one week, and singing onstage the next. Viewers who think they've got the talent to compete and unseat the four singers onstage will have the opportunity to submit an audition video. America will have the chance to decide who is brought onto the show by voting on the available streamed auditions and influencing which challengers will take on THE FOUR and shake up the competition.

If the existing four singers outperform their challengers, then they survive to sing another week, until the end of the season, when the singers have safely secured their spots on stage and face off against each other, resulting in one being named the winner. At stake is the ultimate prize: the panel of industry experts becomes key players on the winner's team. This elite group of star-makers will help shepherd the winner's career and be fully invested in making him or her a breakout star.

Expert panelists and additional information regarding THE FOUR will be announced soon.
THE FOUR was created by Armoza Formats and is produced by ITV Entertainment in association with Armoza Formats. David George, Adam Sher, David Eilenberg, Jessica Sebastian-Dayeh, Simon Thomas, Becca Walker, David Friedman, Avi Armoza and Nehama Cohen will serve as executive producers.
