Franc Roddam, the British film and TV impresario who owns MasterChef, has said that he is pained by the presenter misconduct scandal that has engulfed the UK series.
Roddam, who rarely talks to the press, spoke with Deadline after the BBC and MasterChef producer Banijay declined to renew the contracts of Gregg Wallace and John Torode after credible complaints of inappropriate behavior were made about both presenters.
In a brief comment about the events of recent days, Roddam said: “I’m saddened by it because it’s a wonderful show and it’s brought tremendous pleasure to lots of people.”
Deadline understands that Roddam, who also directed cult British indie movie Quadrophenia, was kept in the loop on the Lewis Silkin investigation into MasterChef. Through his company Ziji Productions, he licenses the format to Banijay, which produced the show in 35 countries around the world last year, generating revenues of €288M ($334M).
The majority of the substantiated allegations against Wallace related to inappropriate sexual language and humor, but he denies more serious claims. Torode was found to have once used “highly offensive racist language,” but said he did not recall the incident.
The story has dominated the British media this week, with national newspapers splashing on the scandal as it has unfolded since Lewis Silkin published a summary of its findings on Monday. Both Wallace and Torode are said to be considering legal action. Wallace believes he has been the victim of disability discrimination after recently being diagnosed with autism. He has engaged Dan Morrison, a partner at Grosvenor Law, to fight his corner.
Roddam said it was “too early” to discuss the future of MasterChef as producers reflect on what has taken place. Asked if the show can survive, he answered emphatically: “Oh, absolutely.”

Start training, because America is about to see huge gains with Physical 100: USA.
The high-stakes competition series Physical: 100 is being adapted for US audiences. In the original Korean series, elite athletes, bodybuilders, and military professionals face off in grueling quests that test raw strength and endurance. Despite its name, as any gym rat knows, this type of tournament isn't just about the body. The various challenges also require extreme mental toughness and fortitude.
The search for the new batch of 100 American competitors is on. If you're tough as nails and take no rest days, click below to apply now for a chance to participate. Just remember: each day, to prepare for the competition, Woo Jin-yong - CrossFit athlete, snowboarder, and winner of Physical: 100 Season 1 - ran 1 mile wearing a 20-pound weighted vest; did 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, and 300 squats; and then ran another mile. Think you can handle a workout routine that intense?
Physical: 100 became a breakout success around the world, soaring to the Top 10 in over 80 countries. Now, the US version will raise the bar, bringing together America's most formidable competitors from across sports, fitness, and tactical disciplines in a battle to determine who has the most complete physique. Arthur Smith & Co. is producing Physical 100: USA, with Arthur Smith, David Friedman, Anthony Storm, and Eli Baldrige serving as executive producers. A filming location will be revealed at a later date.
Physical: Asia will also premiere later this year. An evolution of the original Korean series, the new season will expand to feature top-tier athletes from across Asia, who must form teams around their countries of origin to compete for national glory. A further European adaptation of the hit Korean show is also underway.

Abrand new Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? spin-off has been confirmed – and Jeremy Clarkson is hosting.
The TV presenter has been at the helm of the classic quiz show since 2018, taking over from Chris Tarrant. But now, it’s been announced that Jeremy is set to front a new “cheeky” spin-off show, Millionaire Hot Seat.
The new spin-off show, Millionaire Hot Seat, involves several players and is a faster-paced format. What’s more, the format is already a success in Australia.
As for how it works, six players compete against the clock and each other as they answer questions to win the jackpot prize. The first player is in the “hot seat” first and, in order to keep moving up the money ladder, they need to answer the questions correctly. If they get it wrong, though, they are eliminated and the next player takes over in a bid to be in the “hot seat” for the final question.
The spin-off show will be filmed in November with Jeremy hosting. It will then be broadcast on ITV in 2026.
As well as Millionaire Hot Seat, Jeremy is also hosting 19 more episodes of the original format, including seven celebrity specials.
ITV boss Katie Rawcliffe said in a statement: “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? has reached 18 million viewers on ITV so far this year alone. “Commissioning a new spin-off format to further capitalise on the brand’s success and popularity was a no-brainer, especially with Millionaire Hot Seat already doing so well in other territories also,” she added.
Matthew Worthy, Co-CEO of Stellify Media, said: “It is an honour to produce Millionaire for ITV. Millionaire Hot Seat is the main show’s cheeky younger sibling, and gives us more Jeremy, enjoying more money-ladder moments. But with a whole new tone, pace, and feel.”

The BBC is piloting The Easiest Quiz Show in the World from formats guru Richard Bacon and hosted by Strictly Come Dancing winner Chris McCausland, Deadline reports.
The non-TX pilot will feature celeb cameos and do what it says on the tin, with laughably easy questions partnered with high stakes, jeopardy and a cash prize. Every time someone gets something wrong, all contestants lose everything. The final sees four players try to win money banked throughout the show.
Bacon and his Sister-backed production outfit Yes Yes Media are understood to be aiming high with The Easiest Quiz Show in the World. The format is being forged as a potential primetime Saturday evening format and multiple international versions are in development. The BBC pilot will take place soon and a flyer looking for audiences is about to go out. NBCUniversal is distributing outside the UK.
