HBO Max is now there for those of you who were not previously willing to pay $14.99/month for the streaming service, as the ad-supported tier that costs $9.99 per month launched Wednesday.
Currently, the WarnerMedia-owned platform is offering new and returning subscribers the option to pre-pay for a year of service and receive a 15% discount, making the ad-supported tier of HBO Max’s price tag $99.99/year and the ad-free version $149.99/year.
Now, there are a few things that the ad-supported-tier customers will miss out on, and it’s not just a commercial-free viewing experience.
“RuPaul’s Drag Race” alum Widow Von’Du was arrested Monday on charges of domestic assault in Kansas City, Missouri.
Officer Donna Drake of the Kansas City Police Department told TheWrap that Widow Von’Du, legal name Ray Fry, was charged with one count of first-degree domestic assault and three counts of second-degree domestic assault and that Fry’s bond was set at $50,000.
According to Drake, the investigation is ongoing and limited information is available at this time beyond the initial incident report, which states that on Saturday, May 29, around 6 p.m. local time, officers were dispatched to a reported assault and officers “contacted the victim” who reported said assault.
Attempts to reach Fry, who appeared on Season 12 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” for comment were unsuccessful.
TMZ reported that Fry was arrested for an alleged assault last Friday on her boyfriend, whom she was upset with for sleeping at her home.
Fry’s boyfriend reportedly told Kansas City Police that the “Drag Race” alum had pulled him across the floor, pushed him into a bed frame and became unconscious, struck in the face several times, and strangled by Fry, according a probably cause affidavit obtained by TMZ.
- Måneskin have won the 65th Eurovision Song Contest for Italy. Their song Zitti E Buoni was the first victory for a band since 2006 and they faced stiff competition from the entries from Switzerland, France and Iceland
- The show took place in Rotterdam, in front of a limited capacity of 3,500 fans, and had all the thrills and spills you’d expect. Eurovision was back with a bang.
- As well as the 26 acts in the competition, there were appearances from former winners, including Finnish rock band Lordi, playing on top of rooftops in Rotterdam.
- Iceland had to appear remotely due to a case of Covid within the band.
- The hosts of the show included Nikkie de Jager, making history as the first openly transgender person to present the show in its history.
- Italy will now host the next 2022 Eurovision song contest. It is the third time they have been winners, and Rome and Naple have previously acted as host cities.
Fox premieres “Crime Scene Kitchen,” its newest guessing-game series, Wednesday, following the conclusion to Season 5 of “The Masked Singer.” The face of this baking competition is “Community” alum and “Masked Singer” judge Ken Jeong’s bestie, Joel McHale, who is maybe not the last person you’d expect to host a baking show — but he’s certainly toward the bottom of the list. But that’s exactly why Fox wanted him for the gig.
“I think they wanted to go with me because like, you know, nine other people turned it down,” McHale told TheWrap, jokingly. “No, I think they wanted somebody who had an outside perspective, who was not like a cake expert, because they have chef Curtis Stone and cake artist Yolanda Gampp, who are freaking scientists and obviously very good on camera. But I think they wanted somebody who was not of that world, that could just come in with a bird’s eye view. And, you know, I’m an extreme extrovert. And I think also they wanted to see if I would eat that much sugar, which I did.”
“Crime Scene Kitchen” is culinary guessing game in which bakers are tasked with decoding what type of dessert was made, when all that’s left are the crumbs, flour trails and a few elusive clues. They must then recreate the recipe for celebrity judges, chef Curtis Stone and cake artist Yolanda Gampp, who will determine how closely their sweet treat matches the missing dessert and how good it tastes.

NBCUniversal has already found its replacement for Ellen DeGeneres’ time slot when she exits daytime TV next year.
Starting in fall 2022, “The Kelly Clarkson Show” will take over the afternoon time slot — 3 p.m. in most markets — that has been held by “Ellen.” The daytime talker, which is in its second season, is currently renewed through 2023.
The move makes sense for NBCUniversal, since “Ellen” is mostly carried on NBC local stations (“Ellen” is produced by Warner Bros.). Clarkson, along with Tamron Hall, has been nipping at “Ellen’s” heels in syndicated TV ratings for the last year or two. Meanwhile, DeGeneres’ ratings have fallen this season following the accusations made about “Ellen” being a “toxic” workplace, which you can read more about here.
The move also sets up “Kelly Clarkson” to be used as a launch pad for a potential daytime newcomer next year, as NBC stations will still need to fill the void left by “Ellen’s” departure.
“We look forward to Ellen DeGeneres’ 19th season paired with Kelly Clarkson for what is sure to be a blockbuster year. By 2022, ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’ will be the star of our daytime entertainment schedules and an asset to our early afternoon newscasts,” Valari Staab, president of NBCUniversal Local, said.
Last year, “The Masked Singer” viewers witnessed the fourth winner being crowned when Sun (LeAnn Rimes) took home the Golden Mask over Mushroom (Aloe Blacc) and Crocodile (Nick Carter). Rimes now returns to Fox’s reality TV show during the May 26 finale to help reign in the fifth champion. But will it be Black Swan, Piglet or Chameleon that claims victory? Make your predictions before the episode airs Wednesday night on Fox.
Rimes will appear in the Season 5 finale as a guest panelist alongside regular celebrity sleuths Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong and Nicole Scherzinger. She’ll join in the fun by guessing which famous faces might be hiding underneath the final three masks.
Sun became the second female winner on Fox’s reality TV show following Night Angel (Kandi Burruss) in the third season; the first two winners were Monster (T-Pain) and Fox (Wayne Brady). How fitting that Rimes won the Golden Mask — after all, this shining star was the first contestant to perform in Season 4, setting the bar extremely high with her “Cuz I Love You” cover. Throughout the competition the panelists threw out all kinds of names, but in the end only Jenny and Nicole guessed Sun was the former child singer.
Following her triumphant unmasking, Rimes confessed the judges said so many kind words about her performance of “When the Party’s Over” that she was literally “crying behind the mask.” At that stage in the competition, Rimes wanted to do something she thought “no one else would do, which was to come out and sing a cappella and to really bring the emotion” at a time when she felt “everybody would go for these big, belting moments.”
And now a little something from our Game Show Live! bookworm Chiristine Riccio.
Then you know it's time for Livewire! Until next time, play on playas.
