"Panel Quiz Attack 25", one of the longest-running game shows in the world, will air its final episodes this fall after 46 years on the air on Japan's TV Asahi.
The series, which began as a weekly in 1975, features four players competing to capture spaces on a five-by-five grid. Originally hosted by Kiyoshi Kodama until his death in 2011 - and successively hosted by Yasuyuki Urakawa and Shosuke Tanihara - it featured an Othello-like mechanic in which players can capture opposing players' spaces by answering a question that linked their spaces across, up-and-down, or diagonally. The player with the most squares at the end of play wins a cash prize with a perfect game being awarded ¥1,000,000 (around $9000 in 2021 USD).
The show, which added "Attack CHANCE!" to the international game show lexicon, has seen its audience share erode from 20% in its heyday to around 5 to 6%.
The show set to replace "Attack 25" is being described as a show that is targeted to a younger demographic.
A representative for TV Asahi said, "The achievements of this show are immeasurable. It is very disappointing that the show has to end."
The cancellation leaves Fuji's "Super Adversity Quiz Battle: Wall of 99 People" as the only quiz show airing on Japanese TV right now.

NBC’s craft competition show, “Making It,” is returning for its third season Thursday, June 23, on NBC with hosts Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman.
Eight new contestants — or “makers,” as they are known on the show — will be competing for the prestige of being named “Master Maker” and $100,000 in prize money.
Emmy-nominated hosts Poehler and Offerman will dole out the crafty challenges that will ultimately narrow the competition down to a single winner. In past seasons, crafters were assigned two projects in every episode: a “Faster Craft” and a “Master Craft.” This season will usher in the addition of a “Mega Craft,” which will, according to the network, “span an entire episode and allow the makers to better showcase their skills on a larger and more challenging project.”
In a release, NBC states Season 3 will “celebrate how making brings together friends, neighbors, and families with a new group of the country’s most talented makers.”

Dr. Sanjay Gupta is taking to the podium as Jeopardy!'s next celebrity guest host, taking over for Savannah Guthrie for another two-week stint as the beloved game show searches for a permanent replacement for the late Alex Trebek.
The neurosurgeon and Emmy-winning journalist has long been CNN's chief medical correspondent, also serving as the associate chief of the neurosurgery service at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.
During the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Gupta was a frequent contributor to CNN shows, even hosting a weekly town hall with Anderson Cooper, who previously served as a Jeopardy! guest host.
In an essay for CNN, Gupta recounted his experience stepping into Trebek's shoes, opening up about the special place Jeopardy! has had in his life since he was a child. Gupta recalled watching the game show with his parents as a kid, showing off his knowledge of pop culture, sports and emerging trends while his parents, both newly-immigrated engineers, excelled at categories involving math, science and world history.
"Jeopardy! was the great equalizer in our family. We all had our strengths and our weaknesses. Any of us could emerge a champion," he wrote. "Decades later, I can still recall the look of pride my dad had when he came up with the correct response. I later realized he was even more proud when his young son did the same."
Remembering the "immaculately organized" VHS tapes of Jeopardy! shows in his childhood home, Gupta shared just how important it was for him to do Trebek justice as a guest host. Spending hours reviewing the clues, repeating and memorizing them, Gupta called being on set a "sentimental experience," in which he was thinking of his parents "while standing on the set I had spent so much time watching with them in my early years."
Despite all his early practice, Gupta was feeling his nerves during rehearsals, joking that while the crew would never say it, he thinks they "would all agree I was pretty terrible." After a pep talk from executive producer Mike Richards, in which he impressed on Gupta how appearing on Jeopardy! was the "biggest day" in many of these contestants' lives, the doctor was renewed with a passion to get things right during the filming, which he said ended up showing him just how groundbreaking of a show Jeopardy! truly is.
"It made me realize that just because a show is full of facts and knowledge doesn't mean it has been stripped of intensity and humanity. Jeopardy! is all those things," he wrote, calling the hosting experience "the honor of a lifetime."
Winnings from the two weeks of shows hosted by Gupta will be matched in donations to Odyssey Atlanta, a summer camp for kids from underserved communities.

BBC is rebooting its famed quiz show “The Weakest Link” with host Romesh Ranganathan and a line-up of celebrity contestants.
The show, a BBC Studios Entertainment production, will return to BBC One with 12 episodes of 45 minutes each, filmed in Glasgow, Scotland. Celebrities will need to answer a variety of general knowledge questions in the quick-fire quiz before two are left to go head to head — all in aid of their chosen charity.
“The Weakest Link” first aired in 2000 with acerbic host Anne Robinson (who has recently been appointed the first female presenter of Channel 4’s “Countdown”) and members of the general public as contestants. Robinson gained a reputation for her vitriolic put-downs. The show became one of the BBC’s most successful formats, eventually airing in over 100 countries worldwide, including the U.S. In the U.S., “Glee” alum Jane Lynch is currently hosting a revival version.
The last time “The Weakest Link” aired in the U.K. was in 2017, which was a charity version for Children in Need.
Ranganathan is one of the U.K.’s most sought-after presenters. After the success of his comedy travelogue series “Asian Provocateur” in 2015, the comedian and actor has gone on to star in series such as “The Reluctant Landlord” and host shows such as the BBC’s “The Ranganation” and Showtime’s “Just Another Immigrant.”
Ranganathan said: “It’s an honor to be asked to bring what is basically a TV institution back to our screens. Anne was an amazing host and to step into her shoes is an anxiety-inducing privilege. I’m hoping we’ve found a way to make both the fans of the show happy as well as bringing a new audience to it. If not, accept this as my apology.”
“’Weakest Link’ has always been a firm favorite with audiences and Anne Robinson was a terrific and formidable host. I can’t wait to see Romesh bring his own unique style of presenting to one of TV’s most memorable roles,” added Kate Phillips, BBC’s director of entertainment.
“It’s hugely exciting to be bringing back one of the world’s most successful quiz shows to BBC One,” said Suzy Lamb, managing director of entertainment and music at BBC Studios Productions. “Anne was a brilliant host for many years and with Romesh taking the reins it’s going to be incredibly funny and as fiery as ever. The team can’t wait to get started.”
Phillips commissioned the show while BBC Studios’ Pete Ogden will executive produce. Neil McCallum is the commissioning editor for the BBC. Celebrity contestants and broadcast details are yet to be announced.

We told you that drag Race is having an all stars soon but they're not the only ones......
Canada’s Drag Race will be serving some very different looks when it returns for Season 2 later this year.
Following the news that neither Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman nor Stacey McKenzie will be returning as judges, we can officially welcome their replacements to the panel: Handmaid’s Tale actress Amanda Brugel and celebrity stylist Brad Goreski. Additionally, Season 1 correspondent Traci Melchor is being bumped up to full-time judge. That trio joins Brooke Lynn Hytes, the only returning judge from Season 1.
“The secret’s out! We are so excited about our judging panel this season,” says showrunner Trevor Boris. “They make a fabulous team, and the fans are going to love what each brings to the table. Brooke Lynn Hytes is drag royalty and brings so much experience from season one, while Brad is a style icon, who is as funny as he is fashionable. We’re also thrilled that Amanda and Traci are joining the team. Amanda was such a hit on the panel last season, and is of course an award-winning actress who will share her talents with our queens. And Traci is a legend of the Canadian entertainment industry and a huge supporter of Canada’s 2SLGBTQ+ and drag communities.”
So, what will the judges be up to in Season 2? According to the announcement, “the resident judges helm every episode, visit the Werk Room, judge the challenges, reveal competition twists, and decide who stays and who ‘Sash-ehs Away’ after the epic Lip Sync For Your Life performance. Hytes and Goreski anchor the judges panel in every episode, with Brugel and Melchor joining regularly throughout the season. In addition to RuPaul’s Drag Race fan-favorites like Snatch Game, Rumails, and Untucked, Season 2 is also set to bring audiences a few surprises and ‘RU-veals’ that have never been done before, while also celebrating the uniqueness of Canada’s drag scene and queer community.”
“I am incredibly honoured to be joining the Drag Race family,” Brugel says. “Now that the world has been introduced to the exceptional talent of our northern queens, I feel so fortunate to be able to champion the next class of drag royalty!”
Adds Goreski, “I’m a huge fan of Canada’s Drag Race and am absolutely thrilled to be joining the show. The drag in Canada is incredible, so I can’t wait to see the amazing looks and artistry that the season two queens are going to bring to the runway.”
Season 2 of Canada’s Drag Race is expected to premiere later this year, available to U.S. viewers via WOW Presents Plus.

A B-Minus. GSN had some improvement thanks to the 2 shows I mentioned but 3-person Get A Clue was the reason why I graded it. Maybe some older GSN originals from the 90's or 2000s woul;d've been added too.
That's it for this week, today's consolation prize is Olivia Rodridgo's follow up album Sweet. Contains some outtakes and unrelased material in record stores this fall.
Don't forget to email me at kellypierre8@gmail.com, coppockonsports@yahoo.com, Pierre Jason Kelly on FB and @Johnny_Arcade on twitter. Also I'm on Snapchat as MisterGSN and Instagram as MrJackbox. We will return next Wednesday, and until we return, Play on playas.
