Don't feel puzzled. Game Show Live! starts now!
Former Jeopardy! Champion Buzzy Cohen is returning to the show to guest host the upcoming Tournament of Champions, set to air May 17-28.
Cohen, who was given the nickname “Mr. Personality” by Alex Trebek, became a fan favorite in 2016, winning $164,603 over the course of 9 games. He returned in 2017 to win the Tournament of Champions and in 2019 as a team captain for the All-Star Games. This year’s appearance will mark Cohen’s retirement as a contestant as he will no longer be eligible to compete after his stint as guest host.
“Buzzy has been where each of these champions is, so we think it’ll be comforting for the contestants to see a familiar face behind the lectern,” Jeopardy! Executive Producer Mike Richards said. “We will miss seeing him compete, but we look forward to seeing how he uses his quick wit and personality as guest host.”
Fifteen of Jeopardy!’s top competitors who won the most games between the last Tournament of Champions in 2019 and the end of 2020, as well as the most recent Teachers Tournament and College Championship winners, will be vying for the $250,000 grand prize in this year’s tournament. And they are...
- Ryan Bilger: Macungie, PA; 4-day champion; $107,049
- Karen Farrell: Woodbridge, VA; 8-day champion; 159,603
- Ryan Hemmel: Los Angeles; 4-day champion; $104,526
- Ben Henri; St. Clair Shores, MI; Teachers Champion; $100,000
- Sarah Jett Rayburn: Hutto; TX; 4-day champion; $89,300
- Mackenzie Jones: Tulsa; 8-day champion; $204,808
- Sam Kavanaugh: Minneapolis; 5-day champion; $156,202
- Steve Moulds: Louisville, KY; 3-day champion; $85,603
- Jennifer Quail: Dowagiac, MI; 8-day champion; $228,800
- Nibil Sarma: Eden Prairie, MN; College Champion; $100,000
- Paul Trifiletti: Athens, GA; 5-day champion; $106,801
- Veronica Vichit-Vadakan: Portland, OR; 4-day champion; $89,001
- Kevin Walsh: orig. Williamstown, NJ; 5-day champion; $111,301
- Andy Wood: orig. Ann Arbor, MI; 4-day champion: $91,999
- Jason Zuffranieri: Albuquerque, NM; 19-day champion: $532,496
The second and third prize winners will receive $100,000 and $50,000, respectively. The $250,000 grand prize will be matched and donated to the Hope of the Valley Trebek Center for the Homeless, which will assist up to 300 people per year with shelter, intensive case management, mental health services, job training and placement, substance abuse counseling, housing navigation, life skill training and medical care.
Sadly, Brayden Smith, a five-game champ who earned a spot in the championships, passed away in February. His absence will be acknowledged during the tournament.
The prestigious 10-day event is divided into three segments: quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals. During the first week of the tournament, three contestants will compete each day in the quarterfinals. Winners of the quarterfinals - as well as four Wild Card players who hold the highest scores among non-winners - will all advance into the semifinals during the second week of the tournament. The three players who win the semifinals will face off in the two-day finals for the Grand Champion title and the $250,000 payday.

Ellen DeGeneres is parlaying her love of design into a new reality series for HBO Max.
The streamer on Thursday released a trailer for Ellen’s Next Great Designer (premiering Thursday, April 22), a six-episode competition that gives “uniquely talented, up-and-coming furniture designers the chance to push their creativity to the limit” for the chance to win $100,000.
Due to the pandemic, “the designers will compete in innovative furniture-making challenges from studios in their hometowns, with DeGeneres appearing in each episode to surprise and delight the contestants and the judges,” according to the official logline.
TV’s Scott Foley (Scandal) serves as host and judge. At one point in the teaser, a contestant sees Foley for the first time and squeals, “Oh my God! It’s Noel from Felicity!” Additional judges include interior designer Brigette Romanek and contemporary artist/designer Fernando Mastrangelo.
All told, seven contestants are set to compete in Season 1, including Cristina Antonio, Arielle Assouline-Lichten and Erica Sellers in New York City; Alejandro Artigas in Los Angeles; Mark Grattan in New Hope, Pa.; Paul Jeffrey in Phoenix, Ariz.; and Urvi Sharma in Providence, R.I., who specialize in using wood, metal, stone, fabric, glass and other materials for their creations.
The first two episodes of Ellen’s Next Great Designer will drop on launch day. Subsequent episodes will unspool weekly.

YouTube Originals today announced that YouTube Creator and artist, Zach 'ZHC' Hsieh (20M Subscribers), will host a new version of the popular competition series "Instant Influencer," premiering later this year.
The next iteration of the eight-part series will follow a new format where 10 up-and-coming artists will compete for the coveted title and a $100,000 prize.
"We are excited to expand upon the beauty and make-up themes of the first season and introduce a more diverse cast of competitors that are artists in a variety of different mediums," said Susanne Daniels, Global Head of Original Content, YouTube. "It was always our vision to incorporate different artistic points of view into the series and we can't wait for viewers to see all new forms of creative expression."
"I am super excited to host season 2 of 'Instant Influencer,'" said Zach 'ZHC' Hsieh. "I'm so grateful for this huge opportunity given to me by YouTube to pay it forward to other up and coming artists. I can't wait to show everyone our first YouTube Originals show!" "This is a pivotal moment for Zach to take his career to the next level," added Michael Gordon, executive producer and Hsieh's manager at Night Media.
"We couldn't have chosen better partners than the Brian Graden and the YouTube Originals team - we are incredibly excited to see the end product."

ZHC and a mix of celebrity guest judges, as well as seasoned industry veterans, will ask contestants to put their best creativity and artistry on display through a variety of challenges, such as a 10-hour painting endurance challenge to a collaboration challenge seeing who has what it takes to make the most unique and engaging video with another top YouTube creator. Episodes of the new competition series will release weekly and be available for free on ZHC's Official YouTube Channel later this year.

CBS is continuing to get its hands dirty with its non-scripted slate.
The network has handed a bumper, two-season renewal to its fledgling reality series Tough as Nails. The Season 3 and 4 renewal comes ahead of tonight’s Season 2 finale for the competition series.
The show celebrates everyday Americans who get their workout on the job rather than the gym, wear work boots instead of workout shoes and consider the calluses on their hands a badge of honor.
It was created by The Amazing Race’s Phil Keoghan, who also hosts, and his producing partner Louise Keoghan. The pair exec produce the series alongside Anthony Carbone and it is produced by Raquel Productions in association with Tough House Productions.

Eureka Productions has been on a roll recently, picking up orders for series such as a Magic Mike competition series at HBO Max and an adaptation of 1980s videogame Frogger at Peacock.
But the unexpected boom for the business, which produces Holey Moley for ABC, has been having a sizeable production division in Australia during the last twelve months. The company has been able to take advantage of the fact that Covid has been much less prevalent down under, allowing it to shoot a number of U.S. shows in Sydney. It filmed a reboot of Name That Tune, hosted by 30 Rock’s Jane Krakowski, for Fox, is filming Frogger and another, yet to be announced show, in the country, during the pandemic.
“It was so circumstantially great that we had an Australian arm – we look like geniuses but it was completely happenstance that we had a huge production entity in a place where Covid was practically non-existent,” co-CEO Chris Culvenor told Deadline.
“The practicalities of being able to shoot with limited risk of shutdown and limited risk of Covid and protocols mean you can have audiences and people hugging and cheering. Never when I started Eureka would I ever have imagined shooting a Fox gameshow at Sydney Convention Center, but nothing was normal last year.”

Fox sportscaster Joe Buck will guest host a stint at Jeopardy!
The Hall of Fame broadcaster will see his episodes air in the mid-summer, according to reports.
Buck has called the World Series for Fox since 1996, and has also been the Fox voice of the NFL since 2002.
His tryout follows that of Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who took over the show earlier as one of the rotating hosts since the death of longtime host Alex Trebek.
No reports indicate how long Joe Buck’s tryout will last, but if history is any indication, he will host for two weeks.
Buck is not expected to miss any of his sportscasts during his Jeopardy! hosting.
Guest hosts so far have included Katie Couric, Dr. Mehmet Oz, Ken Jennings, executive producer Mike Richards, and Anderson Cooper, starting this week. Scheduled but not yet appearing are 60 Minutes correspondent Bill Whitaker, actress Mayim Bialik, Today Show host Savannah Guthrie, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, and Jeopardy! veteran Buzzy Cohen.
