Game Show Live! More backstabbing, less reaction as to what happened. It starts now.
“Look, we’re getting the message out about wearing masks, guys,” quipped judge Ken Jeong during the TCA session for Fox’s The Masked Singer. “If you want to wear a mask out in public; if you want to wear a mask on television — I mean, how better than to get the message out and [make a profit] than to wear masks!”
Dr. Ken is part of the popular “Masked” franchise as he is on The Masked Singer, which debuts its fifth season on March 10 and The Masked Dancer. When the producers asked if they were concerned about the expansion of the franchise to something like The Masked Chef or even The Masked Athlete, they had no issue because of the popularity of the existing shows. Jeong added, “The Masked Singer is the mothership — this is such an exceptional show!”
Fellow judge Robin Thicke chimed in: “The level of star power in season 5 is at another level!” Jeong and Thicke were joined at the virtual TCA session by fellow judges Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Nicole Scherzinger, guest host Niecy Nash (who is filling in for Nick Cannon) as well as Executive Producers Craig Plestis James Breen and Rosie Seitchik (EP) to talk about what is in store for season 5 — because it’s not going to be your typical season.
In addition to giving us a sneak peek at a performance of the performer in a Russian Doll costume singing “Shallow” from A Star Is Born (it was both moving and bizarre), it was revealed that this season will introduce “Cluedle-doo”, the show’s first-ever secret celebrity guest who will stir the pot with new clues about identities.
The Masked Singer will also bring in a host of new celebrity singers. In the teaser judges Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger and Robin Thicke attempt to identify the stars behind the vibrant costumes – from Nick Lachey to Jenny Slate to Jamie Foxx. Season five also has bigger, dramatic spectacles and creative characters in store, one of which Scherzinger can only describe as “so creepy but so magical."
“The Masked Singer” is shaking things up for its forthcoming Season 5. For the first time ever, surprise contestants will compete in “Wildcard” rounds to try to steal a slot from an existing masked singer. The fifth season of the Fox singing competition will feature 10 scheduled competitors, who will be broken up into two groups of five (Groups A and B). Then, masked “Wildcards,” as Fox has dubbed them, will crash the stage at the end of “several” episodes for a chance to unseat another contestant in the group and join the race for the golden mask trophy. Fox isn’t yet revealing the costumes of the Wildcard contestants, but it has unveiled six of the 10 regulars competing this season: Phoenix, Grandpa Monster, Chameleon, Piglet, Porcupine, Russian Doll, and Black Swan."
In addition, the upcoming fifth season is partnering with the Fox Bet Super 6 app to give viewers a chance to win cash prizes for their correct guesses.
But you still can’t actually place bets on the celebrity reveals. It is not legal for a U.S.-regulated gambling website to take real money on entertainment-programming prop wagers. Offshore, all bets are off, which means almost all bets — including the silly ones on entertainment and politics — are on. Offshore gambling sites and apps have taken modest action on previous seasons of Fox’s oddball singing competition. The maximum dollar amounts on such wagers are usually kept very low, and the lines essentially exist as a marketing stunt.
Per Fox, ahead of each episode of Season 5, users on the free-to-play app will be presented with six questions to predict what will happen during that night’s show. “For every correct answer, users of the app will receive an entry into a prize drawing where a total of $20,000 will be given away each week,” the broadcast network said. “There will be multiple winners each week. Users who enter the sweepstakes every week will receive an extra entry into a grand prize sweepstakes with a $100,000 grand prize, which could be awarded to a single player following the show’s season finale in May.”
The free-to-play Fox Bet Super 6, does not accept actual monetary wagers of any kind. Fox Bet proper take sports bets, though it currently operates in just four U.S. states. The Super 6 contest site is basically a vehicle to convert users over to Fox Bet, where they can risk real money.
The Masked Singer season 5 will premiere at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Wednesday, Mar. 10. Fox Alternative Entertainment produces The Masked Singer with James Breen, Craig Plestis, Rosie Seitchik and Nick Cannon serving as executive producers. James Breen showruns. The series is based on the South Korean format created by Mun Hwa Broadcasting Corp.

From the "it's over before it's started" file.......
Lee Mack's new game show has been shelved by ITV.
The 52-year-old comedian was set to host 'The 1% Club' – which would have seen 100 contestants answering a series of questions – but the eight-episode series has been paused because the coronavirus pandemic has made shooting the show a logistical "nightmare".
A source told The Sun newspaper: "A pilot for 'The 1% Club' was made in January last year with Lee at the helm, but since then, any plans have been on hold. "The pandemic has made filming a nightmare for most production companies but with 100 people taking part, it’s been impossible. "Lee’s show was meant to be airing now and it’s just become another scheduling headache for ITV.
"Everyone is hopeful 'The 1% Club' will go ahead at some point after the pandemic and Lee is completely committed."
By contrast, 'Love Island' – one of ITV's flagship shows – is set to go ahead later this year. Presenter Laura Whitmore recently revealed that the applications have been "crazy" for the new series.
She said: "At the moment everything is like, knock on wood! The applications have been crazy – everyone wants to go to a hot country and get into a villa. "
The most important thing is to do it safely, so if it can't be done the normal way, they'll have to change things, but I'm very hopeful and excited."
Laura admitted she can't wait to return to the show, once the health crisis has eased.
The TV star – who replaced Caroline Flack as the host following her death in February last year – also thinks 'Love Island' may have benefited from not being on the air for an extended period of time. She said: "I love doing it, it’s such a fun show. And I actually think it’s been good to have had that break, for everyone who works on it, because we all went through a loss. "It’s nice to realise how much people missed the show. Apparently applications are crazy this year. Let’s just pray the vaccines kick in."

Twelve celebs will be stepping into The Celebrity Circle, but they won’t all be taking part as themselves. Celebs going into The Celebrity Circle as themselves:

And here's more abtou the Masked Dancer, but in a different country.
ITV is doubling down on masked entertainment shows. Following the soaraway success of The Masked Singer in the UK, the commercial broadcaster has ordered The Masked Dancer.
Bandicoot Scotland will make a seven-part series based on the spin-off show for late spring, meaning it will help fill a giant Britain’s Got Talent-shaped hole in ITV’s schedule after the Simon Cowell talent series was abandoned this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Twelve celebrities will perform unique dances, while covered from head to toe in extravagant, colorful costumes and masks, leaving viewers and a star panel to guess their identities. Those doing the guessing in the studio will include Jonathan Ross, Mo Gilligan, and Davina McCall, who already feature on The Masked Singer. They will be joined by Strictly Come Dancing star Oti Mabuse. Comedian Joel Dommett hosts.
The Masked Dancer has been commissioned by ITV head of entertainment Katie Rawcliffe and commissioner Joe Mace. The series will be produced by Bandicoot (part of Argonon Group) and the executive producers are Derek McLean, Daniel Nettleton, and Claire Horton.
“The Masked Singer is a huge hit for ITV and our viewers can’t get enough of this colourful guessing game. The Masked Dancer will build on that success and create a new format that will be just as much fun and entertaining for our viewers,” Rawcliffe said.
The Masked Dancer started life as a popular segment on The Ellen Show before Fox teamed with DeGeneres to produce a fully-fledged version of the format. The original Masked Singer show was created by Korea’s MBC.

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are taking their partnership to the small screen.
The married actors are set to host and compete in Family Game Fight, a new NBC game show featuring fun competitions with a big cash prize up for grabs, the network announced Wednesday.
Throughout the 10-episode series, Bell, 40, and Shepard, 46, will part ways and be "adopted" into a family of four and help their team win $100,000.
Family Game Night marks Bell and Shepard's first joint TV project. The show is based on their past antics on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, including their hilarious game of "Taste Buds" in 2019.
"For one of our first dates, I invited Dax over for a game night at my house with a bunch of friends," Bell said in NBC's press release. "He said he fell in love with me there because I was a very tiny person bossing everyone around. I fell in love with him too because he's a very large person who could boss everyone around, but chooses not to. I'm so excited to host 'Family Game Fight' and play all day with my best friend."
"Kristen is my favorite human to work with," said Shepard. "She's the most consistently funny, playful and joyful scene partner I've ever had. She's also incredibly fun to look at."

A popular morning quiz show that has featured D.C. area high schoolers for generations needs help staying on the air.
After hitting the airwaves in 1961, “It’s Academic” would go on to become a Saturday morning regional staple and the longest-running quiz program in television history, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. For more than 50 of its 60-year run, the show has been sponsored by supermarket chain Giant Food.
Susan Altman, current “It’s Academic” producer and daughter of show creator Sophie Altman, was recently informed this would be the final year of Giant’s sponsorship — leaving the record-setting program’s future uncertain.
“Giant first joined our show because the head of Giant, Izzy Cohen, who was an immigrant, said that they always believed the one thing nobody can take away from you is your education,” Altman said. “So he was a big proponent of education, and he started the sponsorship with It’s Academic and it continued for over 50 years.”
But the food retailer is shifting their sponsorships to food insecurity causes, sending the program on a search for a new sponsor in hope of keeping it alive for another half-century.
“If we can get another sponsor, yes, another 50-60 years would be good for us,” Altman said, “We don’t know how it will work, whether we would be broadcasting from space or what, but we expect there will be plenty of kids who will be happy to participate.”

British entertainment formats Would I Lie To You? and Killer Camp are being remade in the U.S. by The CW with The Good Fight creators Robert and Michelle King exec producing the former.
The youth-skewing network is adapting the two shows as part of an expanded unscripted line-up, which includes a U.S. version of Whose Line Is It Anyway, World’s Funniest Animals and Penn & Teller: Fool Us.
Would I Lie To You?, which has run on BBC One for 14 seasons, sees a team of celebrities try and ascertain truth from fiction with questions and stories. The UK series is hosted by Gavin & Stacey star Rob Brydon with Back and Peep Show star David Mitchell and Not Going Out star Lee Mack as team captains.
It will be remade by Ink Master producer Truly Original, which is owned by Banijay, the company that now owns original UK producer Zeppotron. The Good Wife and The Good Fight exec producers Robert King, Michelle King will exec produce alongside former The Daily Show correspondent Aasif Mandvi and Steven Weinstock, Glenda Hersh and Liz Glotzer.
Additionally, the network has acquired two seasons of the British version of Would I Lie To You?, which currently airs on Prime Video.
Killer Camp, meanwhile, follows a group of campers as they navigate through new deadly twists and surprises while competing to expose the “killer” among them for a share of the $50,000 cash prize.
The show, which originally aired on Love Island broadcaster ITV2 with the UK version airing on The CW last summer, will feature U.K. and American campers. Comedian Bobby Mair will feature. It is produced by Tuesday’s Child Television and exec produced by Karen Smith, Steph Harris and Ben Wilson.
The CW boss Mark Pedowitz told Deadline in January that unscripted was one area that it was looking to focus on. “It is something that is now more on the active frontburner,” he said.

Welcome to Game Show 101. Where we learn things from game shows, reality shows and everything else in the whole wide world.
Today we feature the Prison's Dilemma. What exactly is the Prisoner's Dilemma? A clip from the UK game show Golden Balls explains the theory.
Around here, Friend or Foe with future Fox News personality Kennedy did the same darn thing for 2 seasons. Now what is exactly is that?
The prisoner's dilemma is a standard example of a game analyzed in game theory that shows why two completely rational individuals might not cooperate, even if it appears that it is in their best interests to do so. It was originally framed by Merrill Flood and Melvin Dresher while working at RAND in 1950. Albert W. Tucker formalized the game with prison sentence rewards and named it "prisoner's dilemma",[1] presenting it as follows:
It is implied that the prisoners will have no opportunity to reward or punish their partner other than the prison sentences they get and that their decision will not affect their reputation in the future. Because betraying a partner offers a greater reward than cooperating with them, all purely rational self-interested prisoners will betray the other, meaning the only possible outcome for two purely rational prisoners is for them to betray each other.[2] In reality, humans display a systemic bias towards cooperative behavior in this and similar games despite what is predicted by simple models of "rational" self-interested action.[3][4][5][6] This bias towards cooperation has been known since the test was first conducted at RAND; the secretaries involved trusted each other and worked together for the best common outcome.[7] The prisoner's dilemma became the focus of extensive experimental research.[8][9]
An extended "iterated" version of the game also exists. In this version, the classic game is played repeatedly between the same prisoners, who continuously have the opportunity to penalize the other for previous decisions. If the number of times the game will be played is known to the players, then (by backward induction) two classically rational players will betray each other repeatedly, for the same reasons as the single-shot variant. In an infinite or unknown length game there is no fixed optimum strategy, and prisoner's dilemma tournaments have been held to compete and test algorithms for such cases.[10]
The prisoner's dilemma game can be used as a model for many real world situations involving cooperative behavior. In casual usage, the label "prisoner's dilemma" may be applied to situations not strictly matching the formal criteria of the classic or iterative games: for instance, those in which two entities could gain important benefits from cooperating or suffer from the failure to do so, but find it difficult or expensive—not necessarily impossible—to coordinate their activities.
If you look at it this way, Bachelor Pad on ABC had a big cash prize in which Season 1 only had that element. The concept of that every so often can sometimes lead to betrayal from trust. NBC's Take it All did the same thing turning the holiday White Elephant game into a fist fight by the end. So in closing, Prisoner's dilemma is a Snapback to what game shows are wheter by split, steal or nothing.
