Sorting through the “touching” casting interviews received thus far has been “really fascinating,” ABC alternative programming chief Rob Mills tells our sister site Variety, “so I have no doubt it will happen someday.”
ABC back on Feb. 24 aired a casting announcement for a new dating show that would feature older contestants looking for love later in life. That promo directed viewers to a casting website, which offered a bit more information about the in-development project.
“Are you entering your golden years and looking for romance?” the casting site asked. “The Producers of The Bachelor are looking for active and outgoing single men and women in their golden years for a new exciting dating show!”
In addition to confirming for Variety that the spinoff is still in the pipeline, Mills also gave a sense about how it would differ from its young-skewing sires. For example, Hometown Dates would not be about meeting the parents, but the kids.
“It’s such a different way of doing The Bachelor because these people are just at a totally different place in their lives,” Mills said. “There is an interesting thing about people who have hit the other end of the spectrum, who’ve lived their lives, they’ve raised their kids, some have been widowed or divorced and maybe some have never been in love. We thought that would be an interesting dynamic through the Bachelor prism.”
On-location filming in Los Angeles suffered a near-total collapse in the second quarter of 2020 because of the coronavirus shutdown of film and TV production. FilmLA president Paul Audley, however, said Wednesday that “The good news is that production is starting to responsibly return, with advertising shoots, commercials and limited television production now coming online.”
The latest report from the city’s film permit office shows that on-location filming in the city was down 97.8% in the second quarter compared with the same period last year — falling to only 194 shoot days, compared to 8,632 days in the second quarter of last year. “Unsurprisingly,” the film office said, “last quarter also returned the lowest filming levels on record.”
The second quarter collapse was led by zero shoot days on TV pilots and TV comedies, and only three days of shooting feature films – a 99.7 percent decline. There were only nine days of shooting TV dramas – a 98.9% decline – and just 30 days of shooting reality TV series – a 95.9% drop off. Commercial shoots were down 95.5% to only 58 shooting days; Web-based TV fell by 99.2% to only three shoot days, and television shoot days overall were down 98.2% to just 52 days, compared to 2,918 days in the second quarter of 2019.
“The first shutdowns we saw in March were voluntary, and it was hoped they could be temporary,” Audley said. “Looking back, it was hard to imagine the impact the pandemic would have on entertainment projects in progress, and the economic security of local cast, crew, and production vendors.”
Going forward during the pandemic, Audley said, “All permitted filming must comply with Health Orders as issued by county authorities. The measure of compliance we’re seeing is a real help in keeping the industry on the road to recovery.”
The report notes that “Production shut down due to COVID-19 global pandemic on March 20, 2020, and resumed on June 19, 2020. Q2 figures include productions filmed from June 19 – June 30, 2020 only.”
FilmLA’s data is based on days of permitted production within its jurisdiction, and does not include productions shot on certified sound stages. A “Shoot Day” is defined as one crew’s permission to film at one or more defined locations during all or part of any given 24-hour period – a measure determines how many days of work film crews perform during a given time period.
CNN host Don Lemon and Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘s Terry Crews debated – passionately, not, as some reports suggest, angrily – the goals and accomplishments of the Black Lives Matter movement, with Lemon taking issue over Crews’ suggestion that BLM leaders should be more focused on violent crime within Black communities.
“The Black Lives Matter movement was started because it was about police brutality,” Lemon said. “If you want an All Black Lives Matter movement that talks about gun violence in…Black communities, then start that movement with that name. But that’s not what Black Lives Matter is about.”
“If someone started a movement that said Cancer Matters and then someone comes in and says, ‘Why aren’t you talking about HIV’, it’s not the same thing.” Lemon called the two issues “apples and oranges.”
Crews rejected the argument, saying “Black people need to hold other Black people accountable,” to which Lemon replied that violent crime is generally committed within communities – white against white, Black against Black – due to proximity.
The debate grew out of Crews’ tweet last month, in which he said, “We must ensure #blacklivesmatter doesn’t morph into #blacklivesbetter.” Addressing the online backlash he received, Crews said on CNN, “I don’t want to move from one oppressor to the next.”
“Who’s the next oppressor?” Lemon shot back. At another point the host suggested that given Crews’ celebrity, he shouldn’t be surprised at a response. “Terry, you’re a high-profile person,” Lemon said. “You’re writing things out there, you know you’re going to get backlash.”
The segment ended as Crews was speaking and time ran out. “I’m over, Terry, I’m over, I gotta go,” Lemon said, and not, as some reports indicate, “I’m over it.”
A star of ITV1 show The Chase has announced a hiatus from work amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
Anne Hegerty is one of five Chasers utilised by the ITV1 quiz show, which airs each weekday from 5pm on ITV1.
This week on social media, Anne confirmed she is taking a break from work, after a fan asked if she had been furloughed.
The Governess posted a selfie wearing a face covering, captioning the selfie: "I have masks."
"Knew you would be wearing one Anne, lol," one fan replied, causing Anne to admit: "I got recognised in Tesco yesterday even with mask on!"
"Have you been furloughed?" asked a viewer, and Anne replied: "Me? Not furloughed, just having a bit of a sabbatical."
We hope you're back soon Anne

Clare Crawley is about to start her “Bachelorette” journey — but not without some help from her fellow leads. Former Bachelorettes Rachel Lindsay and Becca Kufrin revealed on their “Bachelor Happy Hour” podcast Tuesday, on which Crawley was a guest, that there is a Bachelorette Bible that will soon be passed down to the Season 16 star.
“Right before you hopped on I did a little digging in a bunch of boxes in my apartment and I found the Bachelorette Bible that Rachel, Kaitlyn [Bristowe] and JoJo [Fletcher] made for me,” Kufrin told Crawley. “I met them Night 1, before I met the guys, and they gave me the Bachelorette Bible.”
The book contains pearls of wisdom that the leads have learned from their experiences. “They have some great things written in here,” Kufrin continued. “I think we need to add our own and write some more stuff in and then I’ll send it to you. This was so good to carry on and pass down.”
SEE Everything to know about Clare Crawley’s season of ‘The Bachelorette’
The Bachelorette Bible, however, did not make it into the hands of last season’s star, Hannah Brown. “I don’t know why we didn’t give it to [her],” Kufrin said.
“I blame you because you had it and you didn’t give it to Hannah,” Lindsay told Kufrin, who shifted the blame to her mother “because it was in her basement for the past two years.”
Lindsay also shared some advice on the podcast with Crawley that she got from a producer the first day. “I remember a producer said to me, ‘Give it time and be open because there really are some great men.’ And that was the best advice I could get,” she said. “Truly be open to everybody that comes through because you will be beautifully surprised at the men you meet on your season.”
Crawley’s season is expected to start production soon after a nearly four-month delay due to the coronavirus pandemic. The season will film in one isolated location with the cast and crew living on set while taking strict safety precautions, including testing and regular temperature checks. There will also be a quarantine period before shooting begins. It’s unclear where the location is, but according to “Variety,” it’s in Southern California, not the show’s typical location of Los Angeles County, which is experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases.
Are you really, really good at Tetris? Good enough that you think you could best the competition around the world? Well, if that is the case, you now have an opportunity to put those skills to the test and potentially net yourself some cash at the same time.
The Tetris mobile game from N3TWORK has now offered a new mode called Tetris Primetime, which is essentially a new game show centered around the iconic black-based puzzler. Hosted by Millen Baird, Tetris Primetime is said to be “a breakthrough hybrid of live television and tournament play that supercharges the fun and excitement” and will see over $1 million in cash given away to players annually. The new game mode will transpire every night at 7:30pm based on the “anchor city” closest to you. For those in the United States, these two cities include New York City and Los Angeles.
“We’ve kept the gameplay that you remember, and have infused it with competition, communication, community and an incredible global, daily game show with cash prizes,” explained Neil Young, the CEO of N3TWORK. “We think Tetris has the opportunity to be bigger than ever before as fans around the world can now play in both familiar and exciting new ways.”
In addition to Tetris Primetime, another new game mode called Tetris Royale has also now joined the game, and it’s exactly what it sounds like. Much like Tetris 99 on the Nintendo Switch, Tetris Royale sees 100 players battling it out with the last player standing being crowned the winner. The idea might sound wild on paper, but if you haven’t given it a shot yet, I’d highly encourage you to do so. The battle royale format adapted to Tetris is surprisingly far more enjoyable than it has any right to be.
The Tetris mobile app is available to download right now on both iOS and Android devices.
Then you know it's time for Livewire! Until next time, play on playas. Happy BIrthday Sofia Vergara!
