Me: Hi everyone, good afternoon from the Maple Heights area and ‬TGIF! Hope you are well. And if you aren't well, well........

Today is  National Coconut day. As in coconut cake. Yum. Even though you may have seen half of coconuts to use  as a bra with a strap.....I'm not making this up, people.....we're coconuts for today's blog, so let's.......get wired, you coconuts!

CarMax is using "Jeopardy" champion Ken Jennings to promote the car platform’s appraisal process.

The creative, developed with The Martin Agency, compares the traditional car buying process to a game show, against contestant Jennings, before it is revealed CarMax’s process may be a better alternative.

In addition to the TV spot featuring Jennings, the campaign will introduce some social components, including content that will come directly from Jennings.

Jennings himself felt it was fate that he was hired for this spot. “Someone reminded me recently that when I was on Letterman's show in 2004, he asked me what my worst trivia subject was and I said cars,” he jokes. “And that's totally true!  On a quiz show, you have to know the right answer to every question, but in real life, knowing where to look up a reliable answer is just as important.”

However, Jennings is not identified in the ads. This strategy aligns with CarMax’s “Easter egg” approach with the celebrity cameos. Last year’s Limp Bizkit lead singer Fred Durst popped up in the CD Changer ad.

Jennings also served as an unpaid script supervisor, quips Martin Agency Account Supervisor Ellie Johnson. He corrected one of the social scripts that asked what the world’s largest living organism was. "The Google search we’d used to find the answer was apparently outdated, replaced by a bigger organism called the 'humongous fungus,'” she explains.

“The game show theme highlights the tension customers feel when dealers put them on the spot to make a snap decision on accepting a trade-in offer,” said Laura Donahue, vice president of marketing services at CarMax. “At CarMax, we know that’s not the experience customers want -- which is why our no-pressure appraisal offers are good for seven days so customers have time to compare their options and come out feeling like a winner.”

The content was filmed pre-COVID under normal policies and procedures, with the spot originally slated to launch earlier in the spring, but both the agency and brand chose to delay the launch because of the pandemic.

It's a Good Thing.

Martha Stewart is set to return to the “Chopped” judges’ table — but that’s not all. Stewart has also landed a new holiday-themed series on Food Network and outdoor projects show “Martha Knows Best” on HGTV.

“Martha Knows Best,” which will follow Stewart doing outdoor projects on her Bedford, New York farm, is tentatively slated to air later this year.

We do not yet have dates or more details for Stewart’s return to “Chopped” or her holiday-themed Food Network show.

ANd not a single bar of Lava soap in sight.

Last week saw Netflix bring everyone’s favourite childhood pastime to life with Floor Is Lava. A nod to nostalgia where three teams compete to win a prize of $10,000 by pretending that the floor is lava, the show has managed to bag the #1 spot on Netflix’s Top 10. But, as viewers enjoy watching the teams jump off sofas, swing off chandeliers and obviously, face-plant, the one burning question on everyone’s mind is - where do the contestants vanish after falling into the bubbling lava?!

What feels like a revival of the 90s Nickelodeon classic Legends Of The Hidden Temple, with a dash of ABC’s WipeoutFloor Is Lava makes for mindless viewing and hours of binge. With a total of 10 episodes, the latest in Netflix's range of unscripted reality shows, it is hosted by Rutledge Wood of Top Gear fameHe gets his NASCAR-style commentary to the table as participants in teams of three face brutal obstacle courses filled with puzzle elements and gallons of fiery red lava as they reach for the exit. Each episode features a different style of “room” – from a bedroom to a kitchen, and even a planetarium. Physical challenge-based reality shows like Battle of the Network Stars and American Gladiators have been around since the 1970s.  But what makes Floor Is Lava a winner in 2020 is its simplicity and no-frills attempt at entertainment. Megan McGrath, the VP of development at Floor Is Lava’s production house Haymaker Media spoke about how she and her brother would play the make-believe game in their home as kids. Calling it a universal childhood experience, McGrath, added, “Every kid who’s played it came up with it on their own, without realizing that everyone else was playing it, too. That’s what’s great about it. I realized it could be a fun game show, but I knew we had to supersize it, so that’s what we did!

Amongst questions like, “Is it real lava?” “Is it water with red food coloring?” and “Does it burn?” netizens are curious to know what exactly happens to participants after they drown. Netflix and the show makers, however, seem like they would want to keep that a secret. Producer and Haymaker Media co-owner Irad Iyal did give away the secret behind that steaming pool of lava though. Eyal revealed that the show tasked Hollywood's premier slime manufacturers to create a blend for Floor Is Lava. This resulted in the show eventually ordering more slime than any show had ever produced - close to 100,000 gallons. He also mentioned that the closest thing to come to this blend is orange sauce, lest if any viewers wanted to recreate the experience at home, at their own risk. This does clarify doubts about the safety of the liquid but, the question about the disappearing contestants still stands. The answer to it, in all probability, lies in the editing.

Once a person falls and slips into the raging pool of lava, they are presumed “dead” by their team members. Some, who appear to be good at acting even raise a few melodramatic screams and cries. That’s until the missing person finally shows up, at least in the case of the winning team, when they meet Rutledge to collect their grand prize - which oddly includes a lava lamp. If a viewer observes carefully, they’ll notice a pattern that’s quite evident once everything is pieced together. The show doesn’t explain where the person has disappeared to but its smart editing work certainly does.  After the teammates show their varying levels of surprise, the show quickly switches to a replay, mostly a slow-mo of the failed attempt on loop.

This interestingly gives the “drowned” person ample time to emerge out of the liquid and make a quick exit - something that obviously gets edited out.  The participant then supposedly gets taken to another room where they watch the amusing antics of their remaining team members as they try to reach the exit. A sillier theory that’s also being discussed is the possibility of a man-hole on the floor of the room that could be opened up for the contestant to escape from once they fall in. But supposing it is like a drain at the bottom of a swimming pool, its opening could cause a bit of the lava to seep through as well. Not that it would matter as the rooms have gallons full of the bubbling red liquid. Another Twitter user brought up the theory of an “underwater scuba team” that stays put below the waves of lava, waiting for someone to sink in. And as soon as someone slips and slides off an unassuming bar stool or a replica of Mars, the experts come and whisk the person away. As unlikely as it sounds, it does make the theory of editing seem much likelier in comparison.

Tubi, the ad-supported streaming service acquired this year by Fox, unveiled a slew of new library titles, a dedicated Spanish-language destination Tubi en Español, and new advertising solutions in a NewFronts presentation.

New programming includes the entire first season of Fox’s LEGO Masters; titles based on Mattel franchises like Barbie and American Girl; six movies featuring the animated Asian character Anpanman; family-friendly film Henchmen; animated comedy Monster Family and animated feature The Magic Brush.

“This is a pivotal time for Tubi, and for the broader AVOD space, as our relationship with Fox paves the way for a massive opportunity,” CEO Farhad Massoudi said. “Tubi and Fox proudly share a core ad-supported business model, with each complementing the other and seeking to provide our partners the best possible ad experience. We’re excited to expand on our mission in democratizing content for consumers and embodying the power of free.”

Tubi said it will launch a dedicated Spanish-language destination within the Tubi app called Tubi en Español. It will contain over 800 titles – representing more than 3,000 hours of content – a deeply immersive experience unparalleled in streaming. Content partners and additional details about Tubi en Español will be announced later this year.

The company also is rolling out an advanced frequency tool that caps exposure at the campaign level, regardless of supply source. Tubi technology scans every piece of creative that comes in from various demand sources to identify and compare the brand and campaign in order to make a determination for delivery.

Benefits from the new offering are both advertiser- and viewer-facing. By adding Tubi direct buys to OTT media investments, the company says, buyers avoid duplication with aggregators and ad networks. This results in a better ad experience for consumers, reduced waste, and maximized reach for advertisers.

Here is your Game Show Live! crowning moment of awesomeness of excellence.

For its eighth episode THE LOCK INN PUB QUIZ welcomes three of the most recognisable faces from our beloved tea-time telly schedule who will be battling it out for pub quiz supremacy. This week regular host Ivo Graham will be joined by Richard Osman, Paul Sinha and Jenny Ryan who will all compete with each other in this part game show / part pub quiz format. If you were asked to name 10 of the top TV quiz shows in the UK it’s more than likely you’d include both Pointless and The Chase.

Normally found sat behind a desk with a fake laptop, Richard Osman is the absolute Godfather of the UK quiz show having not only co-presented and created Pointless but also producing Deal Or No Deal, 8 Out Of 10 Cats & Total Wipeout amongst others, viewers will be treated to seeing him in the hotseat from his home this Monday 22nd June at 8.30pm.

He’ll be up against two formidable opponents from one of the most merciless trivia challenges on TV – The Chase. Paul Sinha provides great value to proceedings with not only an almost frightening level of knowledge, which he’s sure to display in this episode, but also great contributions as one of the world’s finest stand-up comedians. And completing the bread in the Osman sandwich is professional quizzer and Celebrity X-Factor contestant Jenny Ryan. With a TV quiz show CV that can be matched by few others we’re thrilled to be graced with the presence of the former contestant of University Challenge, Mastermind, Eggheads, Only Connect and Fifteen To One.

Previous episodes of The Lock Inn Pub Quiz have welcomed guests such as Phil Wang, Deborah Frances White, Ed Gamble, Tom Rosenthal, Tim Key, Suzi Ruffell and John Robins from the worlds of comedy as well as actors in the shape of Fiona Allen (Smack The Pony) and Craig Parkinson (Four Lions, Line Of Duty). All of the past shows can be viewed and played along with on the Lock Inn Quiz YouTube Channel http://www.lockinnpubquiz.com/

The Lock Inn Pub Quiz has partnered with the Music Venue Trust to help grassroots music venues through the pandemic and beyond. Viewers are encouraged to donate the price of a pint down their local that they’d normally spend at a pub quiz. Music Venue Trust, the charity created to protect, secure and improve grassroots music venues has been lobbying for support from the governments of the UK and fundraising through the #saveourvenues campaign to safeguard the venues most at risk. If you can, please donate via www.saveourvenues.co.uk.

So to the stars of Pointless and The Chase.....you all get crowns.....but not the ones you go to a dentist for.

Leaving Flavortown?

A chef who appeared on two episodes of the Food Network show Guy’s Grocery Games, hosted by Guy Fieri, has been cut-off from further appearances on the network.

Chad Barrett appeared on Fieri’s show in 2017 and 2019, and also participated in a Food Network-affiliated festival in New York City.

The move comes as Barrett was accused by seven women on social media of violence toward them as he awaits trial on other domestic abuse charges.

Barrett has also been fired from his job as executive chef at Feast, a new restaurant in Chesterfield, Michigan.

“When we read the local news reports about the current allegations against this contestant, we pulled both episodes that he appeared, so no re-airs could be schedule,” a Food Network spokesperson said to the Detroit Free Press.

The food festival also issued a statement.

“A woman brought this article to our attention the other day and we’ve since removed Chad Barrett from our website. He participated in the festival in 2019, but he will not be participating in future events,” said Alexandra Stylianos, the director of operations for the Food Network & Cooking Channel New York City Wine & Food Festival.

Barrett was hit by new allegations earlier in June as he awaited trial on domestic abuse charges filed by his ex-wife.

As I told you on Wednesday, RKVC is splitting up....but not for good, because Vince Cirino is moving out of Los Angeles to be with his family, but the music will continue to shine as this song will take you into the weekend.

So today I learned if the lava in Netflix's The Floor is Lava is Real, would that be considered cancellation? No one wants to watch families die in lava.

Keep smiling through when we'll meet again. We obviosuly know who, or what , or how, or where or why, but I'll tell you when this sound is heard.......
