HQ Trivia. A once-popular game that spawned countless imitators from A-Z all getting the treatment and making it "Appointment viewing" for every trivia fan. But once the popularity died down, a lot of them committed app-icide. Don't know what that word is, but define it yourself people. With the new changes that took effect in season 4, which will get to in just a bit, someone got rich......but didn't.



 The “someone” in this case is controversial Jeopardy player Alex Jacob, who has been trying to get his $20,000 jackpot for the past month to no avail.
HQ has been going through a lot of changes, most of them not great. Last week the company laid off 20% of its dwindling staff, who were already frustrated with the decisions of its CEO, Rus Yusupov, who is now the sole person in charge after HQ’s co-founder, Colin Kroll, died in December. The game lost a beloved host, Scott Rogowsky, who was not allowed to say farewell to his audience, and that same audience is frustrated with HQ’s attempts to get more people to spend money on the game through buying extra lives or purchasing an upcoming $10 monthly subscription, which will give paid players access to more games. Unfortunately, HQ is also still plagued by cheaters.
The one consistent thing about HQ is just as depressing as all the changes to the company and its business model. People have a hard time actually getting their money when they win it. It’s perennial to the point that if you search “hq cash out” on Twitter, you’ll find dozens of players trying to get the money they say they’ve earned through being good at trivia.
Alex Jacob, a former professional poker player and six time Jeopardy champion, is now in that camp of people who want HQ to give him his money. According to a tweet from last night, Jacob won a $20,000 jackpot on June 10, and still hasn’t been able to cash out a month later.
During his run on Jeopardy, where Jacob both thrilled and frustrated fans by jumping around categories looking for Daily Doubles and then betting so much money that no one could overtake him, Jacob earned over $150,000 and also won the $250,000 grand prize during the Tournament of Champions. To him, $20,000 might not be all that much money, but as he wrote in his tweet, he still wants HQ to “honor their jackpots.”
“I am getting a lot of interview requests,” Jacob said in a follow up tweet. “I would honestly rather just get paid and not have to do any of them. Please make this right HQ Trivia.”
Kotaku reached out to both Jacob and HQ, and neither responded in time for publication.
A post about Jacob’s situation is one of the highest upvoted on the HQsubreddit and filled with similar stories about being unable to cash out. It’s also one of the few posts to break over a hundred upvotes on the subreddit. (The other three posts that reached over a hundred upvotes are about not liking the upcoming subscription model, missing Scott Rogowsky or a screencap of Scott Rogowsky talking #$%@ about the company.)
There’s still a chance that Jacob could get paid, or even that HQ’s subscription model could turn things around, but it seems like the audience for HQ is ready to move on. Good news for people who schedule events for bars and community centers—as long as you deliver on your prizes, there are thousands of people who desperately need a trivia fix.

On a more brighter side however, HQ is currently nominated for a Emmy for Outstanding Original Interactive program. That could be a cool way to bring people back into the mix for good.

Fifteen of the most successful winners from the past two seasons of Jeopardy! will convene this fall for the 2019 Tournament of Champions, the show announced via video Wednesday.
The biggest name, of course, is professional sports gambler James Holzhauer, who recently took home $2.4 million during his 32-game winning streak. The Las Vegas native donated a portion of his winnings to a Chicago-area pancreatic cancer walk in honor of host Alex Trebek, who personally revealed his own diagnosis to Jeopardy! fans in March.
Holzhauer is certainly the one to beat, and here are the 14 other Jeopardy! veterans hoping to take him down:

This past Monday, 2 replacements for Mike Richards was set and done.


Evelyn Warfel has been elevated to Executive Producer/Showrunner of The Price Is Right, becoming the first woman to hold the position in the history of the series, and John Quinn serving as the new Executive Producer/Showrunner on Let's Make A Deal. They replace Mike Richards, who exited both shows earlier this year after signing a multi-year overall deal with Sony Pictures Television.
"We are fortunate to have such creative and dedicated talent at the company," said Jennifer Mullin, CEO, Fremantle. "When looking to fill these roles, we didn't need to go far. Evelyn and John have been longtime valued members of our team and I can't wait to see how they will flourish in their new roles."
Warfel has been with Fremantle for the past 10 years, most recently serving as The Price Is Right's Co-Executive Producer. During her tenure, the series has won three Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Game Show, along with a total of seven nominations. Warfel has an extensive game show background having produced more than a dozen titles within this genre of entertainment, including previously serving as a Supervising Producer on Fremantle's Let's Make A Deal.
Additionally, Adam Sandler has been named The Price Is Right's new Co-Executive Producer, taking over for Warfel. Sandler has spent the past 25 years with the series, serving as the show's Director for the past six, and in numerous producing roles prior to then. Having won two Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Directing in a Game Show, Sandler will continue on in this role, in addition to now serving as the show's Co-EP.
Veteran game show producer Quinn has been with Fremantle for the past six years, originally joining as an Executive Producer on Celebrity Name Game, which saw two Daytime Emmy wins for host Craig Ferguson, along with a nomination in the Outstanding Game Show category. He also served as an Executive Producer on Match Game, and is currently both an Executive Producer and Showrunner on the return of the classic game show, Press Your Luck, on ABC. Quinn will be joined by longtime Let's Make A Deal Co-EP's, Chris Ahearn and Graham Shaw, along with Jennifer Langheld who recently was tapped as Co-EP.
Both The Price Is Right and Let's Make A Deal will premiere their 48th and 11th seasons respectively this fall on CBS.




With Season 2 of The Masked Singer USA on the way, we go down under for this.

A diverse cocktail of talent has been announced as the judging panel for a brand new reality series, and one prolific radio star is making her silver screen comeback. Jackie O has been announced as one of the panellists on upcoming singing game show, the appropriately titled, The Masked Singer.
Jackie O is returning to her roots with the gig, as she famously got her TV start judging Popstars in 2000 and then went on to host iconic early noughties reality shows, most famously Big Brother. The Kiss FM host might be better known for radio these days, but she's far from the most surprising personality in the fray.
Joining the Aussie personality will be none other than everyone's favorite former child star, Lindsay Lohan. The Mean Girls actress is fresh off the cancellation of her own reality show Lindsay Lohan's Beach Club, which tracked the opening of her Mykonos club, earlier this year, and confirmed the new project over the weekend.
"Look out Australia, I'm coming!" she told Confidential.
The full panel comprises of Lindsay, Jackie O, Dave Hughes and Dannii Minogue.
Dannii is of course a veteran of the judging game, judging on the X Factor UK and the show's Australian counterpart, as well as on Australia's Got Talent, and Hughes has a number of TV gigs under his belt.




The popularity of D&D runs deep in the nerd fandom from Critical Role to Dragons & Things, but CollegeHumor decided to throw their.....um.........wizard's hat into the ring.



Um, Actually is a fun game show from CollegeHumor on their subscription streaming service DROPOUT. The second season is getting to launch later this summer with new topics like (but not limited to) musical theater and classic television thrown into the mix with D&D, video games, and more. The show is hosted by Mike Trapp who reads incorrect nerdy statements across various fandoms and the players must correct the sentence. This is actually a lot of fun to watch and see how well some people do in different areas. While many of the players are from CollegeHumor, they do also bring in celebrities such as Rachel Bloom and Matt Mercer.
"Starring creator, host and super-nerd, Mike Trapp (@mikewtrapp), Um, Actually features Trapp asking a panel of guest contestants to correct statements on a variety of nerdy pop culture topics – from video games to movies, and TV shows to music. The catch is the contestants must begin their answers with the term "Um, actually…", allowing them to indulge in their pedantic ways and do what nerds love to do best: correct each other.
For season two, Trapp has expanded the scope of topics and will introduce specific themed episodes focusing on areas such as musical theatre, horror and classic television, in addition to the usual geek topics of video games, science fiction and fantasy."
The second season of Um, Actually will premiere on DROPOUT on July 20 with new episodes airing each Saturday through September 21 giving fans 10 new episodes. I've included a clip from the episode with Mercer below where he corrects Trapp on a D&D question.

Food brings families together, especially families who work together running restaurants, serving up some of the best dishes across the country. But, beginning on Monday, August 19th at 10pm ET/PT, some of these families will compete on Family Restaurant Rivals to prove their recipes are better than all the rest. They must endure real-life restaurant curveballs and please a panel of rotating judges including Kardea Brown, Jason Fullilove, Ray Garcia, Alex Guarnaschelli, Robert Irvine, Clinton Kelly, Antonia Lofaso, Bricia Lopez, Simon Majumdar, Christian Petroni, Courtney Rada, Aarti Sequeira and Jet Tila with delicious dishes, but only one family will be crowned the winner.
"Family Restaurant Rivals is a unique competition celebrating the incredible families that put food at the center of their lives, running restaurants and incorporating their heritage and traditions in every meal they serve," said Courtney White, President, Food Network. "Audiences will be cheering their favorites as Valerie Bertinelli puts their cooking talents to the test as they work together to overcome the challenges."
In each episode, three families face-off in two rounds of challenges requiring them to overcome obstacles and unpredictable twists, without letting family dynamics get in the way of success. Throughout 6 hourlong episodes, the competing teams tackle challenges from elevating childhood classics, to putting their own spin on meat and potatoes, and whipping up guilty pleasure desserts in their bid for the grand prize. 




A limited series of a REW Superstation reboot this past week came to an end. We now bring you in its entirety and with no commercials whatsoever, the final episode of......Starstruck GC: Back to basics. 






What do you get when you give Jane Lynch a new backyard, lots of celebrity friends, brand new games, and booze? If you guessed "Hollywood Game Night" season six then you are already ahead of the game. Pun intended. HGN will be returning with all these ingredients which Lynch says is the perfect recipe for a fun show. Did we mention the booze?
"The recipe is the same, and we don't mess with that," Lynch says. "The audience feels like they are at a party with a bunch of really funny shiny people playing games. And you feel like you're a part of it."

So what's new in season six? Are there really that many games to play? Lynch says yes. She tells us the producers came up with more games than they know what to do with. So they picked the top games to make the cut including Jane's Jams, Kissing Booth, and How Do You Doo-et.
Grab your own cocktail and watch the cast of "The Good Place" and "American Ninja Warrior" kick off the season when it premieres July 11 9/8c.

The ladies also shared a small one-bedroom apartment in New York City, which added to the comic friction.  It was created by Gail Parent and Tracey Jackson and executive produced by Dolly Parton and Sandy Gallin's Sandollar Productions for 20th Century Fox Television.

It's Babes. Not a clone of pigs, the sitcom.



The Gilbert sisters include Darlene (Susan Peretz), the eldest, who was a dog groomer and recently divorced (her husband had an affair with their weight-loss counselor); Charlene (Wendie Jo Sperber), the middle sister, who was a makeup artist for a commercial photographer and was the most active one out of the three; and Marlene (Lesley Boone), the youngest sister, a former toll collector (and later an actress in a pantyhose commercial and a soap opera), who was seen as a dreamer with a naive, yet trusting, personality. Also in the cast was Charlene's boyfriend, Ronnie Underwood (Rick Overton), a restaurant owner. He disappeared at mid-season, as a result putting all three sisters on the dating market. At that time, the girls' landlady, Florence Newman (Nedra Volz), became a regular.
All three also had physical elements in their resume and it was evidenced in most of the episodes whenever something would tick off the sisters. Among the notable examples: Charlene getting blown up in a helium dress, Darlene breaking a hockey stick while attending a New York Rangers game that got her on probation and head-butting Ronnie over who was going to spend the night at the apartment, Marlene waking the sisters up with potato chips after they didn't hear her come in, and the sisters ganging up on a mime after he mocked them.


The show was initially criticized by several groups for making fun of overweight people due to some of the jokes that were used in the show's early episodes, but the controversy faded as later episodes began to put a more positive spin on the characters when it came to weight issues (this was pointed out in one episode in which they vowed the word "fat" would not come up in the conversation while they had an argument). The girls had differing views of their body image, with Charlene being most concerned about health issues and frequented a gym, then was ridiculed by an attractive woman. An enraged Charlene later returns to tell off the heckler.
Although it had the Top 30 hit The Simpsons as its lead-in, it could not hold on to a large enough percentage from that show, and also at least partially because of the controversy, it did not earn a second season and was cancelled at the end of the 1990–1991 season.


Guess Nia jax wasn't involved in the show afterwards.

Last story: Tellie is planning to take the popular app game In or Out and turn it into a live touring show this fall in malls everywhere. Tellie has tapped Marisha Ray of Critical Role to host the show with a real-life wheel that looks like the game. Everybody who participates gets a chance at up to $10,000 in the final round. Just like the game, the rules are......

HQ was once 12 questions form easy to hard with a cash jackpot somebody must take home. That was it. It was a walk in the park and along the way, they added themed games and features all with a comedic host who keeps the party going. Strangers and friends who hadn't played the game was able to be in and see Scott and Company invite everybody to the land of questions, answers and flying graphics that come at you in 15 minutes or less. But recently, with numbers dwindling, a last-ditch effort was made to give more players the spark it once had. With a growing jackpot, it made Plinko look like a contact sport. Every prize question gave you a choice to either go on or take the money and get out. The first few prize questions seem like pocket change but the last few questions can get interesting. Also for theme nights, they had 16 questions, but afterwards, general trivia on subjects any PhD would be knowingly good at. It brings me to wonder, will we ever bring back the old format? I mean, look at The Q. They use to do well with big cash prizes but nowadays, they have $100 free games and premium games. Why? They need money to keep it going, but with the new HQ Words subscription on the way, will HQ keep going?
