Broadcaster Richard Osman has scooped a seven-figure book deal after writing a crime novel in secret for the past 18 months.
The Thursday Murder Club, Osman’s first novel, will be published in autumn 2020. Penguin Random House imprint Viking secured the rights to it and a sequel following a 10-way auction.
The novel is set in a luxury retirement village in Kent where four residents meet up every week to tackle cold crime cases, and end up investigating a “live” murder mystery.
Essex-born Osman, 48, best known for co-presenting the TV quiz show Pointless, told the Guardian that he had nurtured ambitions to write a crime novel for years and years.

Mario Batali has been charged with indecent assault and battery based on an accusation that he groped and kissed a woman in a restaurant in Boston in 2017. The celebrity chef is scheduled to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on Friday, the office’s criminal case division tells TheWrap.
Batali’s accuser’s name, in this case, was redacted from court documents, but the account described matches one made by a Massachusetts woman who filed a civil lawsuit against Batali in August 2018, according to the Boston Globe.

“Mr. Batali denies the allegations in both this criminal complaint and the civil complaint filed last August,” Anthony Fuller, an attorney for Batali, said in a statement to TheWrap on Thursday. “The charges, brought by the same individual without any new basis, are without merit. He intends to fight the allegations vigorously and we expect the outcome to fully vindicate Mr. Batali.”

Abby Lee Miller is officially.....officially.......Cancer free.

The 53-year-old "Dance Moms" star said in an interview with People published Wednesday she's recovering from Burkitt lymphoma and hopes to walk again in the future.
"The cancer is completely gone," she told the magazine. "I'm thankful. I was always grateful but I think I must say 'Thank you' a hundred times a day because I have to rely on strangers."
Miller has undergone months of physical therapy and is still working to regain mobility. She is focused on her future as she continues to recover.
"I pushed through because I feel like I have more to do," the star said.

ABC may have done recreations of "All In The Family" and "The Jeffersons," but other networks want to follow suit. Fox asked Justin Timberlake to recreate "Parker Lewis Can't Lose," the classic teen comedy from the early nineties. The casting for the title character boiled down to either Zac Efron or Roshon Fegan and it turns down by a narrow margin that.....

Ellen DeGeneres will continue her top-rated daytime talk show for the next three seasons, she announced today. The deal extends The Ellen DeGeneres Show‘s run through 2022.
“I’m excited to announce that I’ll be doing my show for three more years,” DeGeneres told her audience during today’s show. “Mostly because I love doing it so much every day but also because that takes me to the end of my car lease.”
There had been some speculation that DeGeneres would leave the show when her current contract was up in 2020. Earlier this month, she spoke with Deadline ahead of Netflix’s FYSEE screening of her special Relatable that she was “torn” on how long to keep the show. “I love doing the show, and I also love doing other things,” she said at the time. But clearly that was all put to rest today with her announcement.

Armchair Genius

Dax Shepard, a tired dad who hates waking up in the middle of the night to pee, was floating an idea. Adult diapers: What's the downside?
To explain: The actor is 44 now. He just wrapped the first season of “Bless This Mess,” an ABC comedy in which he stars with Lake Bell, and “Spin the Wheel,” a game show set to premiere on Fox in June.

With his wife, the also-busy actress Kristen Bell — she just finished filming Hulu’s “Veronica Mars” revival and is now voicing Princess Anna for Disney’s “Frozen II” and shooting Season 4 of NBC’s “The Good Place” — Shepard is a 50-50 parent to their two young daughters, Lincoln, 6, and Delta, 4.
In addition to all this, the couple recently released a line of plant-based baby products with Walmart called Hello Bello — “perfect for your little pooper,” reads the diaper packaging — for which they did a promotional blitz that landed them on the covers of Parade and People.

With this household schedule, it is critical that Shepard stay hydrated. He drinks fluids compulsively. As a result, he needs to use the bathroom multiple times at night. But it can take him half an hour or more to fall back asleep. When you add it up, the bathroom trips are really cutting into his REM. “Why don’t I just start wearing Depends undergarments and training my body to pee at night?” Shepard demanded to know. “Why not do that?”

He was posing the question to Monica Padman, a 31-year-old actress who has worked with Shepard and Bell for five years. He was also posing it into a hot mike, because he and Padman were recording an episode of their hit podcast, “Armchair Expert.”
The two started the show in early 2018 on a lark — and were shocked when it quickly became the year’s most downloaded new podcast on iTunes.
A mix of in-depth interviews and freewheeling banter, “Armchair Expert” has clear antecedents in “WTF With Marc Maron” and “The Howard Stern Show,” but Shepard’s distinctive point of view and unfiltered lens on family life add up to something wholly unique.
Certainly, the podcast’s legions of fervent fans, known as “arm cherries,” think so: The first episode, an interview with Bell that opened with nearly an hour of marital bickering, posted on Valentine’s Day, has been downloaded more than 4 million times.

FOX'S #1 drama, 9-1-1, expands its reach to the city of Austin, Texas, with new installment, 9-1-1: LONE STAR, starring Rob Lowe. The series will premiere during the 2019-2020 season on FOX.
"The beauty of having a hit drama like 9-1-1 from the genius minds of Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear is it allows you to explore thrilling stories as told through an array of distinctive characters," said Michael Thorn, President of Entertainment, FOX Entertainment. "In 9-1-1: LONE STAR, they've given us a special opportunity to expand the franchise into new territory - literally and figuratively -- and we're thrilled to have the incomparable Rob Lowe headline this new iteration when it joins our schedule next season."
