Good afternoon. Welcome to another edition of........
Amy Irons will join me a little later on. The game show world mourns the loss of a real legend.
Peter Marshall, who hosted the popular game show The Hollywood Squares for more than 15 years and had a long career as an actor, singer and comic, died today of kidney failure at his Encino home. He was 98.
Marshall won four Daytime Emmys for hosting the syndicated Hollywood Squares from 1966-81.
The tic-tac-toe game featured two contestants agreeing or disagreeing with celebrities who provided answers to Marshall's questions — which ranged from silly to ribald. The format has been revived a few times over the years, with a new edition hosted by Nate Burleson with Drew Barrymore in the famed center square is to premiere in midseason. Among the scores of stars who appeared on Hollywood Squares were Walter Matthau, Gloria Swanson, Glenn Ford, and Milton Berle, as well as regulars Paul Lynde — who often killed as the center square — Rose Marie, Nipsey Russell, Cliff Arquette, and Wally Cox.
Marshall went on to host other TV game shows including All-Star Blitz, Yahtzee, and The Reel to Reel Picture Show.
"Listen to people, have fun, and know the game. That's basically all you have to do to be a good game show host," Marshall said in a 2019 interview for the Television Academy Foundation. "Know the game thoroughly so if something goes wrong, you know how to rectify it. And most importantly, enjoy the people."
He also hosted The Peter Marshall Variety Show, Big Bands from Disneyland and the audience participation series Fantasy with Leslie Uggams.
Tom Bergeron, who himself won an Emmy for hosting The Hollywood Squares, paid tribute to Marshall. The former "Dancing With the Stars" host posted to Instagram: "I've been blessed in my career to have made friends with so many whom I admired from afar, watching them on TV from my childhood home. [William] Shatner, [Carl] Reiner & [Dick] Van Dyke are a few examples. So was Peter Marshall. The @hollywoodreporter has just reported Peter has died. The original, and greatest host of The Hollywood Squares was 98. ."
In an Instagram Story, Bergeron, 69, described Marshall as his "friend" and "the G.O.A.T of Hollywood Squares."
Bergeron also shared a photo of him leaning his head on Marshall's shoulder during a presentation at the Daytime Emmy Awards. "The Game Show Jedi & his Padawan. At the 2018 @daytimeemmys. #rip, my friend #hollywoodsquares," he captioned the post.
Born Ralph Pierre LaCock on March 30, 1926, in Huntington, WV, Marshall had a long career in showbiz before his Hollywood Squares gig. Boasting a memorable voice, he worked as a DJ for Armed Forces Radio after being drafted into the Army stint during World War II and as an NBC page and a theater usher.
Marshall teamed with Tommy Noonan in 1949 for a comedy act that sold out nightclubs and did The Ed Sullivan Show twice. They appeared together in movies including The Rookie (1959) and Swingin' Along (1961). He had bit parts in some early 1950s movies and became an contract player at Twentieth Century Fox, appearing in such films as Ensign Pulver, The Cavern and Annie, in which he played radio crooner Bert Healy.
Marshall got his TV start guesting on '50s variety shows as part of a comedy team with Tommy Farrell. Later that decade, he appeared in episodes of series including Men of Annapolis and The Millionaire. He also appeared in Manhattan Tower, the first color special NBC aired.
Marshall made his Broadway debut in the short-lived 1961 play How to Make a Man and returned as a star of the 1965-66 musical Skyscraper. Those shows came after he starred with Chita Rivera in Bye Bye Birdie on stage in London's West End. His other musical theater credits High Button Shoes, Anything Goes, The Music Man and 42nd Street. From 1983-87, Marshall performed the lead role of Georges in more than 800 performances of La Cage Aux Folles on Broadway and its national tour. He also starred for two years as Lenny Ganz in the national tour of Neil Simon's Rumors.
Marshall authored the 2002 memoir Backstage with the Original Hollywood Square. He is survived by his Laurie, his wife of 35 years; daughters Suzanne Browning (husband David) and Jaime Dimarco (husband Steve); son Pete LaCock (wife Janna); 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Another son, David LaCock, died of Covid complications in 2021.
We'll have a lot more of the program in just a moment.

Panelists Ken Jeong, Rita Ora, Robin Thicke and Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, alongside host Nick Cannon, return as the series commemorates acclaimed franchises Barbie and Footloose, along with the iconic artist Miley Cyrus in a pop culture-piercing night that salutes her music catalog. The new season will pay tribute to the 65th anniversary of Mattel's Barbie, celebrating over six decades of breaking down boundaries and inspiring girls to explore their limitless potential. The show will also celebrate Footloose as the film rings in its 40th anniversary.
The Masked Singer stage will also see the return of fan-favorite tentpole themes such as "Soundtrack of My Life" and "Thanksgiving Night," with other all-new themes including "Sports Night," "60's Night" and a first-of-its-kind "Who Are You Fest," featuring music from memorable festival lineups. The Keshet International format The Search will be adapted in Spain thanks to an alliance between the Israeli company and The Mediapro Studio, which will produce a local version for the regional channel Aragón TV.
Created by Youngest Media (Money Drop) alongside KI, The Search was originally released in Israel on local channel Keshet 12.
The Spanish version will be its second international adaptation after its version in Uruguay by Canal 4, which has broadcast 70 episodes of the show to date.
The Search is a gameshow that turns the traditional word search into a physical competition in which contestants must test their knowledge, speed, cognitive skills and teamwork.
The Spanish version will be titled Sopa de Letras and will premiere in prime time access on the regional channel of Aragon, part of the FORTA public channel network, later this year.
"'The Search is a lively, exciting, and visually engaging game show that elevates the word search game we all know and love into a shout at the TV entertainment experience for every generation," said Kelly Wright, newly appointed MD of distribution at Keshet International.
Amparo Castellano, global head of non-fiction at The Mediapro Studio, added: "The Mediapro Studio is a company who are very committed to public television, and we are proud to find formats such as The Search, whose workings are dynamic, promote mental agility and is easily exportable. Being the first in Europe to adapt this format from Keshet, a benchmark in the gameshow genre, is another example of the work we do daily to find the formats with the most potential."

Following the launch of RuPaul's Drag Race Global All Stars and receiving 10 Emmy(R) Award Nominations across the franchise, MTV and Paramount+ today announced that RuPaul's Drag Race, RuPaul's Drag Race: Untucked, RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars, and RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars: Untucked have been greenlit for new seasons.
RuPaul's Drag Race will return to MTV for its 17th season after another record breaking year. The season 16 finale, which crowned Nymphia Wind as America's Next Drag Superstar, was the highest-rated episode of Drag Race in 13 years. Also returning is the Emmy(R) Award-winning after-show, RuPaul's Drag Race: Untucked.
Additionally, Paramount+ has renewed RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars for season 10, following the first-ever charity season where Angeria Paris VanMicheals earned a coveted spot in the "Drag Race Hall of Fame" and a supersized donation of $200,000 for the National Black Justice Coalition. The season also included an appearance from Vice President Kamala Harris, reminding viewers about the importance of voting. RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars: Untucked will also return.
Already the most decorated person of color in Emmy(R) history, RuPaul received his ninth consecutive nomination for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Program this year, tying the record for most nominations in the category. RuPaul's Drag Race is nominated in eight categories including Outstanding Host For A Reality Or Reality Competition Program, Reality Competition Program, Directing For A Reality Program, Casting For A Reality Program, Production Design For A Variety Or Reality Series, Sound Mixing For A Reality Program, Picture Editing For A Structured Reality Or Competition Program and Outstanding Choreography For Variety Or Reality Programming, while RuPaul's Drag Race: Untucked also received nominations for Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program and Picture Editing For An Unstructured Reality Program.
The show's continued mission to uplift and protect drag performers helped the ACLU's Drag Defense Fund surpass $2M raised this year, driving weekly viewers to donate via a QR code at the end of each episode. Created in partnership with World of Wonder, MTV, and RuPaul's Drag Race, the ACLU Drag Defense Fund has been instrumental in drawing attention to the anti-trans and anti-LGBTQ attacks sweeping the nation by educating the public on attempts to ban drag nationwide.
RuPaul's Drag Race Global All Stars premieres exclusively on Paramount+ starting Friday, August 16 with two all-new episodes. Twelve fan favorites from around the world will each represent their countries as they compete for the title of "Queen of the Mothertucking World," a grand prize of $200,000, and a spot in the International Pavilion at the Drag Race Hall of Fame.

Following a Love Island USA season filled with love, heartbreak, betrayal and surprises, Peacock dropped its highly anticipated season six reunion special on Monday.
The reunion, hosted by Vanderpump Rules star Ariana Madix, reunited many Islanders from the latest iteration of Peacock's beloved dating completion series, including finalists Serena Page, Kordell Beckham, Leah Kateb, Miguel Harichi, JaNa Craig, Kenny Rodriguez, Nicole Jacky and Kendall Washington. Other Islanders in attendance were Aaron Evans, Kaylor Martin, Rob Rausch, Olivia Walker, Andrea Carmona, Connor Newsum, Daniela Noelle Ortiz-Rivera and more.
After the finale aired in July, fans were still left with several unanswered questions, namely involving which girls (Page, Kateb, Martin or Walker) specifically voted to send Carmona home earlier in the season. Drama later ensued when Kateb seemingly told Rausch that she took a "back seat" in the decision, while Martin and Walker claimed she didn't.
The Islanders and fans finally got that question answered during the reunion. They got to see the raw, unedited video of the girl's conversation surrounding their decision (something fans have been asking producers for since the dramatic dumping) to see exactly who said what.
"I didn't say I took a back seat. I said I was trying to [take a back seat] — key (expletive) word," Kateb clarified after watching the footage. "I never said I took a full-on back seat."
Walker also apologized to Kateb for her role in the misunderstanding, and confronted Rausch about leaving the word "try" out when he asked her in the villa to clarify Kateb's role in the dumping decision. "I'm not blaming you guys for it," Rausch added. "From my perspective, the girls had their POV, they went with their logic, and it was just different from the guys. It was just a different decision."
In a statement on social media, the reality dating series thanked fans for their support but kindly asked them to be demure and mindful with their comments.
"The cast are all part of the Love Island USA fam now, and while we love your passion for them, we ask that you always choose to be kind. Let's lift them up and spread the love. Enjoy the reunion, and see you in Fiji next summer!" read a post on X, the microblogging platform formerly known as Twitter.
"Big love to everyone who joined us in Fiji this summer!" read the statement. "The Season 6 reunion drops tonight on Peacock, and we're buzzing to bring our Islanders back together."
The statement continued, "The reunion is full of drama, but remember — these are real people, so let's keep it kind and positive. Let's end the season with the same love and respect we started with!"

It's time to go 3 in the key. 3 fun facts about this.
1. The Reel to Reel Picture show was actually based on a board game from Canada
2. It became the very first game show original from PAX.
3. and this is why it got cancelled: PAX ordered 200 episodes (40 weeks) of Reel-to-Reel, which would have taken the series through June 4, 1999. Despite the order, the production company – TIL – was having financial problems while tapings proceeded and ceased production after five weeks (25 episodes) had been filmed. Many contestants never received their winnings.
