After a day of guessing, ITV has officially confirmed that David Tennant will be hosting its upcoming game show Genius Game.

Fans correctly worked out that Tennant would be the show's host, known as 'The Creator', after a challenge was posted to ITV's page on Twitter, which has recently rebranded as X, tasking viewers with working out who it was.

The broadcaster provided a blurred image of them, along with a code to crack. Each number in the code corresponded to its letter in the alphabet, providing quizzers with the following letters - AADDEINNNTTV - which can be rearranged to make, you guessed it, David Tennant.

Genius Game is an adaptation of the South Korean show of the same name, which sees players with their own unique skills competing against each other in tests of analytical reasoning, attention to detail, memory and loyalty.

The players must form alliances and decide who to trust and who to betray in order to survive, with a cash prize of up to £50,000 up for grabs.

He Killed it in Trivia!

French serial killer who spent more than 35 years on the lam once appeared on a nationally televised game show as police searched for him in connection to a string of rape and murders there. The appearance came in 2019 on the show Tout le monde veut prendre sa place (Everyone wants to take his place), which is similar to Jeopardy. Francois Vérove’s appearance on the show came just two years before he killed himself after he received a police summons that said his DNA was found on one of his victims. Officers responding to his suicide, inside an Airbnb, uncovered a note they said was penned by Vérove, where he admitted to a string of child rapes and murders in the 80s and 90s. Vérove’s wife, who said she was unaware of her husband’s chilling past, told police that her partner never tried to conceal his identity—evidenced by him once appearing on a French game show. The magazine Marianne uncovered the footage Tuesday, which shows Vérove, a retired police officer, participating in the show as if all was normal—even discussing his old job as a cop with the presenter.

Earlier This Morning.......

Cat Deeley, longtime presenter of So You Think You Can Dance, has revealed details of her experience being caught up in a Los Angeles shopping mall shooting scare that made her want to leave her home in Hollywood and return to live in the UK.

The Sun newspaper reports that Deeley, about to take over hosting duties on ITV flagship daytime show This Morning, wanted to move away from the US after her family were caught in a shopping mall shooting in 2019.

The paper recounts how the presenter, her husband Paddy and young son Milo were forced to take cover during a lunch outing in a Shake Shack restaurant in Century City, Los Angeles. When sirens sounded, they were told to seek shelter after a disgruntled ex-Amazon employee. Deeley is quoted in The Sun remembering:

“Everyone was told to lie behind the counter or pushed into the loos. People were screaming and crying.

“Then, as they were all hiding, the FBI up with guns.

“Paddy kept Milo calm — he didn’t really know what was going on.

“As I was driving, I began to see helicopters, news vans, firemen and armed police squads. It makes me go funny now. The gun laws in America are crazy.”

The assailant was arrested and named as Nicholas Oates, who was sentenced to seven years in prison for arson and assault with a firearm. The Sun reports that he is now out of jail.

By the time of the scare, Deeley had been working and living in Hollywood for over a decade, including her long stint presenting So You Think You Can Dance for Fox.

This week sees her take over main presenting duties on This Morning, alongside Ben Shephard. ITV will be hoping their arrival sees a new chapter for the show after a chequered 2022, in which previous hosts Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby both departed in dramatic style – Schofield resigning after his secret affair with a young intern was revealed, and Willoughby after she discovered she was the target of a kidnapping and murder plot.

Two of our favourite primetime quiz shows could have looked very different, it turns out.

Alexander Armstrong has revealed that he turned down one of the most-loved quizzes on telly so that he could host Pointless instead.

The 52-year-old star has presented the BBC quiz show since it debuted in 2009, but on Tuesday’s Good Morning Britain, he revealed that he seriously considered accepting an offer to helm another very popular teatime show.

“I did turn down Countdown,” he said, revealing he was made the offer when Des O’Connor stepped down as host. “I took it very seriously, well it’s a job, I take everything seriously that I am offered.

“I felt Countdown was a very revered format and I got the sense that there wasn’t going to be a lot of leeway to muck about with it and Pointless is all mucking about really.

“I wouldn’t have been able to do both. Pointless was my little treat for saying no to Countdown, but it was a really tough call because they were such nice people and I love Countdown.”

He continued: “But I wanted to do something that was a little bit more… basically I had kind of stopped doing comedy by then and I wanted something that would have a bit of comedy in it.”

Jeff Stelling, Nick Hewer and Anne Robinson have since helmed the long-running letters and numbers game, which launched in 1982.

Alexander has filmed more than 1,300 episodes and nearly 30 series of Pointless alongside Richard Osman.

In April, Richard announced he was stepping back from hosting the show after almost 13 years to “concentrate on writing”.

Shortly afterwards he was rumoured to be replacing Anne Robinson as host of Countdown, but later gave three reasons why he wouldn’t be taking her seat on the Channel 4 show.
