After almost five months, the Writers Guild's strike will be officially over at 12:01 am Wednesday.
"Today, your Negotiating Committee, the WGAW Board and WGAE Council all voted unanimously to recommend the agreement," the guild said today of tentative agreement worked out with the studios and streamers on Sunday. "It will now go to both Guilds' memberships for a ratification vote. Eligible voters will receive ballot and materials for the vote which will take place from October 2nd to October 9th."
According to the guild, scribes can return to work while the ratification process plays out. If, on the off chance that members reject the tentative agreement that was worked out on Sunday, the strike will start back up again. At 148 days, the strike will be just a few days short of being the guild's longest ever — the strike of 1988 lasted 153 days.
The tentative agreement to end the strike, which was reached Sunday night, was approved today by the WGA West Board and the WGA East Council, which also voted to lift what the guild calls a "restraining order" to end the strike "at a certain date and time, to be determined, pending ratification. This would allow writers to return to work during the ratification vote but would not affect the membership's right to make a final determination on contract approval," the guild says.
The tentative deal now goes to the guilds' members for final ratification. Details of the agreement haven't been made public yet, but after the deal was reached with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, the guild's Negotiating Committee told members that "this deal is exceptional – with meaningful gains and protections for writers in every sector of the membership." Key strike issues included wages, streaming residuals, protections against the abuse of Artificial Intelligence, and minimum staffing and duration of employment in TV writers' rooms.
Prior to today's vote by the Board and Council, the guild and the AMPTP put the final touches on their Memorandum of Agreement, which details all the deal points. After that, the WGA Negotiating Committee voted to recommend it to the Board and Council for their approval.
As the WGA leadership and members move forward on the scribes' tentative agreement with the studios and streamers, the 160,000-strong actors union could be sitting down with the AMPTP within days.
This comes as the actors have been on strike for 73 days themselves.
As always in labor relations, the situation is fluid, and no negotiation has truly started until all participants are seated at the bargaining table. "We have no confirmed dates scheduled and there will not be meetings with the AMPTP this week," a SAG-AFTRA spokesperson said Tuesday. "When we do have dates confirmed, we will inform our members. No one should rely on speculation."

Since there isn't no fall season on TV drama or action adventure -wise, podcasts are all-seasons and this one is the subject of............
Podcasts......you should listen to.
Vanna White isn't ready to hang up her ballgowns just yet.
The longtime Wheel of Fortune co-host has reportedly extended her contract by two years, the series confirmed in a press release Sept. 19, ensuring she'll remain in her crucial, letter revealing role through the 2025-26 season.
The news of her extension also promises some continuity at a time of much change at the iconic game show, as longtime host Pat Sajak will stop spinning the wheel after its current season.
"Well, the time has come," he said in a statement on June 12. "I've decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last. It's been a wonderful ride, and I'll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all."
Additionally, Alex Van Wagner has taken the directing reins of Wheel of Fortune following the retirement of longtime helmer Robert Ennis over the summer. Ennis worked on the show as both director and technical director, dating back to 1992. Van Wagner's credits include The Masked Singer, Holey Moley and The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Ryan Seacrest is happy to have Vanna White turning letters for him and showing him the ropes when he takes over at Wheel of Fortune.
"This is such great news," Seacrest, 48, told Willie Geist in the "Sunday Sitdown" segment of his Sunday Today with Willie Geist. "Vanna has been such a staple on that show and in our living rooms for so many years. I have been very excited to work with her, but now that it's official I can say, 'Congratulations Vanna! I can't wait.' "
Pat and Vanna made their debut on the nightly version of the syndicated show together on this day in 1983. And while Pat has rarely missed a taping during his tenure, Vanna has filled in for him on occasion. Once in 1996, she stepped in to host the bonus round when Pat's laryngitis prevented him from doing so, and again in November 2019 when the 76-year-old stepped back from his hosting duties to recover from emergency intestinal surgery.

Family entertainment gameshow Finder$ Keeper$ is well on its way to becoming an international brand.
Following the highly successful first season on VTM in Belgium earlier this year, the commission in Germany for RTL2 and the French Belgian version on air on RTL TVI, the format has now been commissioned by ETB in Spain and will launch this week.
The initial Spanish season is produced by Mediapro company K2000, under the partnership between The Mediapro Studio and international distributor Be-Entertainment. In its home territory Belgium, a second season has been greenlit by the channel.
The fun entertainment show sees a family turn their house upside down in the search of 100,000 euros in cash ($105,000), creatively hidden inside the home. How far will the family go in messing up their own home to discover all those crazy hiding places?
Finder$ Keeper$ has already been commissioned in four territories since the format was introduced at MIPCOM last October, while production rights have been picked up across Europe as well as in the UK and the US.
Finder$ Keeper$ is based on an idea from the award-winning Belgian format collective, Send in the Clowns, and produced by PIT.
