Pat Sajak is leaving Wheel of Fortune and many are wondering who will replace him as host. While a number of names are currently being tossed around, one TV personality is not looking to step into the role.
On June 12, Pat announced his plans to retire from the longtime game show next summer after more than four decades of being on the air. The news shocked viewers, despite the fact that he's been dropping clues of his impending exit over the last few months. This led to some folks saying that former Dancing With the Stars host Tom Bergeron should take his place, given his years of presenting experience. What's more, they flooded his Instagram, asking him for his thoughts on the suggestion.
In the comments of a video Tom uploaded on June 14, fans saw him working out with weights at his local gym. "When you find out that the [Wheel of Fortune] gig is open," one person wrote.
"😂 No thanks," he jokingly replied. "I’ve developed an aversion to wearing suits."
What's more, others couldn't help but hope that he was preparing to get back on the small screen. But he quickly cleared up the air by mentioning a familiar name from American Idol.
"Are you getting in shape to spin the Wheel of Fortune? You'd be great for that job. 😊," another added. "I’m hearing @ryanseacrest is in line for that one. Which is good ‘cause the kid needs the work… 😉," Tom quipped.

In 2010, with the support of fans, friends, and family, Guggenheim Entertainment, Inc. was successful in raising funds through a KickStarter campaign that allowed the team at The Retro Dome to workshop THANKS FOR PLAYING...THE GAME SHOW SHOW! Voted “Standout New Work” by the Silicon Valley Small Venue Theatre Awards, fans and critics alike loved the show and wanted more. In 2012, during a summer hiatus, the creators worked to take all of the feedback from fans and friends to improve the production with its witty lyrics, handsome hosts, original tunes, audience participation, unpredictable contestants, beautiful models, and fabulous prizes. And once again during the 2020 pandemic, the team again returned to the show voted “Best Musical” by Broadway World SF Region in 2012 and are very excited to bring you the final revision and greatest revival you will ever see.
Michael McIntyre’s quiz show The Wheel has been axed in the States after just one series.
The comic fronted a run of the game show – which he also devised – for the NBC network over Christmas. Ten episodes ran over two weeks, with overnight audiences peaking at 2.2million, about average or just below for its timeslot.
It’s been reported that executives were disappointed with that performance, with guest stars including Christina Ricci, Tony Hawk, and Bruno Tonioli failing to capture big audiences.
The show has so far run for three primetime BBC One series in the UK, with the last batch of episodes launching with an audience of 3.1million, It has been remade for seven other markets including Spain, Germany and the Arab world.
McIntyre, who was also an executive producer on the US series, originally created the format during the pandemic, with the celebrities seated far enough apart to comply with social distancing.
News of NBC’s decision – which will be a blow to McIntyre’s hopes to make it in the US – was reported by trade website Broadcast.
