The Talking Through The Medias opening toss up story.
NBC is opening up a new fall comedy block on Tuesday nights and has pushed a couple of its drama series to midseason.
The network unveiled its fall schedule, which sees Jon Cryer's Extended Family run after Night Court, Quantum Leap moves to Tuesday night, while Found replaces Law & Order: Organized Crime on Dick Wolf's second night in the fall and La Brea, with its short order season, also pushed to midseason.
There are plenty of strike contingencies built into the schedule, in part as a result of NBC renewing shows early and keeping them in production ahead of the writers walking out.
Jeff Bader, President, Entertainment Program Planning Strategy, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, told Deadline that shows such as Night Court, Quantum Leap, Found, The Irrational and Extended Family will all be on the fall schedule even if there's an extended strike "because we're now in a continuous production model".
"We're in very good shape, considering the circumstances," he added.
"The main thrust for us is that we wanted to capitalize on having a schedule that has tentpoles every night of the week, so we can be as stable as possible, and create a schedule where we have great launchpads for our three new shows that will be coming on in the fall," said Bader. "We have a new show coming on after The Voice, a new show coming on after Night Court, which was the top new comedy of the season and then after SVU, our top drama. It was just about coming in as stable as possible and creating those launchpads."
The Wall moves to Friday night for the second half of its fifth season, which was split into ten episode blocks. It replaces Lopez Vs. Lopez, which was renewed for its second season and will return in midseason, and Young Rock, which is on the bubble.
Midseason will be busy for the network. In addition to Law & Order: Organized Crime, the big news is the move of La Brea, which previously aired at 9pm on Tuesdays in the fall.
Elsewhere in midseason are the second season of Password, which Deadline revealed this morning had been pushed due to the writers strike, as well as new reality series including a new twist on Deal or No Deal and another America's Got Talent spin-off.
Password, the game show from Jimmy Fallon and hosted by Keke Palmer, is returning to NBC for a second season. However, Deadline reports that filming of season two of the series has been postponed as a result of the writers strike with The Tonight Show host Fallon among those not wanting to cross the picket line and Palmer giving birth to her child. The series was expected to film shortly on the Universal lot.
Building off the success of "America's Got Talent: The Champions" and "America's Got Talent: All-Stars" comes the next special edition of the world's most successful TV franchise. Last year, "All-Stars" was the #1 new alternative series of the season in both the 18-49 demo and total viewers. The new series will be co-produced by Fremantle and Syco Entertainment. Simon Cowell, Sam Donnelly and Jason Raff are the executive producers.
The iconic game of "Deal or No Deal" is back and unlike anything you have ever seen before! This new format transports audiences to the Banker's private island where he makes the rules and there are twists behind every palm tree. Hidden on the island are over 100 cases with millions of dollars split between them, which teams must retrieve so that they can play a game of Deal or No Deal against the Banker. Only one team will survive until the very last episode, where they'll compete to beat the Banker for the biggest prize in "Deal or No Deal" history. "Deal or No Deal" first launched in the Netherlands in 2002 and has been commissioned in more than 80 territories worldwide with more than 350 productions. "Deal or No Deal Island" is produced by Endemol Shine North America and is based on the Banijay format, "Deal or No Deal." Sharon Levy, DJ Nurre and Howie Mandel will serve as executive producers.
This year's network upfronts announcements are pretty much just what's on paper. The reality of it all will depend on a lot of things, including how long the strike lasts.

The BBC's Entertainment and Daytime commissioning teams are joining forces to identify, develop, produce and deliver fresh and modern quiz and gameshow formats for BBC One and iPlayer for Saturday early evenings and Daytime afternoons made in either Scotland or Northern Ireland.
The opportunity is open to independent production companies, and independent producers from across the UK, who will need to meet the criteria, and to qualify as a Scottish or Northern Ireland production – meaning even if they're not based in either nation, they can partner up with a company based there. The BBC is making a commitment to fund up to two show pilots that "will appeal to the broadest possible audience, have the scale, uniqueness and popularity, grow into key returning brands and potentially sit on both the Daytime and the Entertainment slates."
Head of Commissioning for Entertainment, Kalpna Patel-Knight comments: "For Saturday nights on BBC One we are looking for fun ideas that will engage a broad audience who enjoy playing along at home with family and friends – and even shouting at the telly. I am really looking forward to seeing the creative briefs that come through as there is a big difference between a quiz and a gameshow format – and the talent pool from across the UK is endless."
Head of BBC Daytime and Early Peak commissioning, Rob Unsworth comments: "Quiz and gameshows are at the heart of the BBC Daytime schedule, so this is a fantastic opportunity to develop fresh ideas that could become key returners We're looking for a series that will be warm and inclusive – keeping quiz and gameshow fans hooked whilst also bringing in regular viewers who don't necessarily see themselves as 'quizzers' or particularly knowledgeable. We have some hugely successful and popular programmes in the current schedule, so we're looking for something that could feel right at home."
Bridge of Lies, hosted by Ross Kemp and produced by STV Studios, was ordered by former Head of Daytime and Early Peak commissioning, Carla-Maria Lawson, as part of the previous quiz initiative, the Commissioning Editors are Alex McLeod, and Neil McCallum, based in Scotland, for BBC Daytime.

And now for some ongoing strike news.
Jeopardy! has become one of the first game shows to be impacted by the writers strike.
Host Mayim Bialik has decided against hosting the final week of filming for season 39, standing in solidarity with the striking writers. Deadline reports that production on the final run of episodes for the season is going ahead with Ken Jennings taking over hosting duties. The final episodes of the season will be filmed at the Sony Pictures lot in Culver City between Tuesday May 16 and Friday May 19.
Jeopardy!, which is produced by Sony Pictures Television, is a WGA show and features contributions from WGA writers, but the questions were written in advance of a season and the strike.
Bialik and Jennings have shared hosting duties this season; Jennings hosted the first stretch of episodes between August and December with Bialik starting in January. Jennings will now host the last week before the summer hiatus as a result of Bialik's decision.
SAG member Bialik is best known for her scripted work; she starred as Blossom in the 90s NBC series, played Amy Farrah Fowler on CBS' The Big Bang Theory, and starred as the main character in Call Me Kat, which recently ended on Fox with its third season.
This all comes as all of the Jeopardy! writers, including Michele Loud, Jim Rhine and Billy Wisse, have joined the picket lines as part of the WGA strike.

Well just like Lightning, another tea time quizzer at the Beeb down.
The BBC has axed a quiz show fronted by a popular sports personality after just two series. At the time of launching the series, the BBC branded the show "the ultimate knockout competition, where eight players battle each other on the Tournament".
But after just two series, the BBC has called time on The Tournament, which is hosted by Alex Scott. The show saw eight players battled it out as they took part in a series of tug-of-war quiz matches. The show aired in an afternoon slot on BBC One.
Birmingham Live reports Alex, 38, had presented both series of the program. A spokesperson for the BBC confirmed the show was to come to an end. They said: "The Tournament had two great series but we need to make room for new opportunities. "We'd like to thank Alex and the team for all their hard work."
The series was described as an "exciting tug-of-war quiz matches they attempt to knock their opponents out of the game and steal their cash". Only one player made it to the end, when they then had the chance to double their money on the Golden Run.

"RuPaul's Drag Race" and "RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars" combined to earn a leading five nominations Monday for the fifth annual Critics Choice Real TV Awards, honoring unscripted and reality programming.
Both shows were nominated for best competition series, along with "The Amazing Race," "Lego Masters," "Survivor" and "The Traitors."
For best talent/variety competition series, nominations went to "America's Got Talent," "America's Got Talent: All Stars," "Dancing with the Stars," "The Masked Singer," "My Kind of Country" and "The Voice."
Competing for best culinary show will be "The Big Brunch," "Jose Andres and Family in Spain," "Magnolia Table with Joanna Gaines," "Selena + Chef," "Taste the Nation with Padma Lakshmi" and "Top Chef."
Game show nods went to "Barmageddon", "Jeopardy!", "Lingo", "Password", "The Wall", and "Weakest Link".
The winners will be announced on June 15, but due to the Writers Guild of America strike, there will not be a live, in-person ceremony. The winners will be revealed "through a special announcement."
"Looking over the list of this year's nominees, we can't think of a better way to celebrate the fifth annual Critics Choice Real TV Awards than by calling attention to so many of the talented and diverse individuals who continue to make unscripted television an essential genre on broadcast, cable and streaming," Critics Choice Association TV Branch Co-President Ed Martin said in a statement.

Let the celebrity-adjacent sleuthing begin.
EW has reported the cast of Claim to Fame season 2, which premieres June 26 on ABC. The reality competition follows 12 contestants — each of whom shares DNA with a well-known actor, singer, athlete or other celebrity — as they tackle weekly challenges and scramble to uncover who each player is related to... all while keeping their own almost-famous identities a secret. The last one standing wins $100,000 and a new, well, claim to fame.
For those of you who want to play along at home, a new twist in season 2 is going to make that even harder. This time around, none of the contestants' identities will be revealed to viewers until they are unmasked in the Guess Off round. Last season, the audience learned in the premiere that contestants included Whoopi Goldberg's granddaughter and Simone Biles' sister. (Chuck Norris' grandson's cover was also blown on night one when he was sent home for cheating.)
Claim to Fame premieres Monday, June 26 at 8 p.m. on ABC.

My memory circuits inform me that it's a Mistplay Game Break. I've got an Idiotest for you to ponder on.
Think on that after this classic jam from Lorde in the Spotify Soundstage.
Fun fact: Weird Al Yankovic parodied it as "foil." Now the answer. If you look at the city on the bottom, they're actually 9 letters in that city's name. No wonder.

Wait, what, no? Another shout out. Oh all right.
Another big special shout out goes to.........
After Hours Cinema. With the trend of horror hosts going back to the fifties, After Hours Cinema keeps the tradition on going with Lee Turner in the driver's seat as host and sometimes, the show would be like Have I got News for you or SNL with guest hosts trying harder to make it a good show to watch with the lights off. Here's one example.
Food Fighters bills itself as "one part cooking competition, one part game show."[5] In each episode, a contestant who is a home-based amateur cook comes to the show with a list of five of their best recipes to prepare on the show. The show is divided into five rounds, one round for each recipe. In each round, a mystery professional chef comes in to challenge the contestant. The chefs are represented as black silhouettes of themselves on a large video screen and on a graphic to the home viewer before being shown. Once the chef is introduced, the contestant chooses one of their recipes to cook against the professional, and they cannot prepare a recipe more than once. The contestant generally attempts to select a recipe that is not in the known style of the chef, as the chef does not know in advance what dish they will be cooking. After a set cooking time (generally varying from 15–25 minutes), the contestant's and the chef's respective recipes are judged by a group of five ordinary food-loving people known as the "Dinner Party" in a blind taste test, who discuss positive and negative aspects of each dish. A majority vote of the Dinner Party determines the winner of the round. Each round that the contestant wins earns them a cash prize. The first round is worth $5,000, the second round is worth $10,000, the third round is worth $15,000, the fourth round is worth $20,000, and the fifth round is worth double the amount of the contestant's previous winnings, making a top possible prize of $100,000. If the chef wins a round, the contestant does not win any money for that round but continues through the entire show.[6][7] If the contestant does not win any round prior to the final round, that final round will be worth $10,000.
The fifth professional chef that competes is generally a celebrity chef that has frequently appeared on other cooking shows, especially those on Food Network, including Cat Cora, Elizabeth Falkner, Duff Goldman, Lorena Garcia, Jet Tila, and Gerry Garvin.[5] The set of the show is unique from other cooking shows in that it is a two-story set, with the contestant cooking in a kitchen upstairs on an upper level while the chef cooks in a similar kitchen on the lower level.[8] The show also publishes the contestant recipes on their website.
Iron Chef was never more fun than this.

That's it for this week, today's consolation prize is a bog box of old Rockafire Explosion/Munch's make believe band concert tapes. Relive when your kids used to go to Chuck E. Cheese's before it got overhauled into a dance floor. We still hate THAT dance floor.
