he Masked Singer has held onto its crown as the world's best-selling format for a third consecutive year, according to K7 Media's annual report on the top 100 travelling unscripted TV formats, Tracking The Giants.
The musical entertainment format from South Korea, which is distributed by MBC & Fremantle, secured 12 new local adaptations in 2021, including with Amazon in Japan, TV4 in Denmark and TVN in Poland.
The Masked Singer, which first debuted in 2015, also has the most active format adaptations around the globe, with 41 versions currently running (followed by The Voice and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, with 38 and 35, respectively).
However, UK-based research firm K7 noted that new sales of the format have slowed considerably from a high of 23 markets in 2020 as it now reaches global maturity. The show was one of nine formats to achieve at least five new local versions in 2021, followed by Sony Pictures Television's evergreen quiz format Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, with nine sales, and Fremantle's Game Of Talents, with seven sales. These were followed by Banijay's Big Brother VIP (6), Fremantle & CJ ENM's I Can See Your Voice (6), Sony Pictures Television's Dragons' Den (5), Fremantle's Five Guys A Week (5), and two ITV Studios formats – Love Island and The Voice Senior, both with five sales.

We check the ratings for this.............
CBS owned Thursday night, delivering both the highest-rated and most-watched primetime titles with Young Sheldon and Ghosts. The CBS comedies tied with one another for the top demo rating, both earning a 0.5 in the 18-49 demo. Young Sheldon, stable from the previous week, also brought in the largest audience with 7.04 million viewers.
The long-running comedy series provided United States of Al (0.4, 5.09M) and freshman Ghosts (0.5, 6.00M) with a steady lead-in. Ghosts, which dipped slightly from the prior week, came to a close matching its series premiere (0.5, 5.34M) in the demo but surpassing it in viewers. The Price Is Right host Drew Carey, accepting an award at the NAB Show, believes the already long-running game show "could be around for 100 years on American television, because it's just that strong."
Carey appeared on the first day of NAB, which is being held in Las Vegas in person for the first time since 2019 as Covid restrictions gradually ease. The Price Is Right, whose CBS version began airing in 1972, was inducted into the NAB's Broadcasting Hall of Fame. In 2007, Carey was named host of the Fremantle-produced strip, succeeding longtime host Bob Barker.
Despite the CBS mainstay's deep roots and loyal daytime audience, it "has been able to adapt with the times and change and grow," Carey maintained. "It's humbling to be part of this legacy."
The host did admit his typical workday is not exactly strenuous. "If you see me in the hotel or casino, feel free to punch me in the face," he said, because he shows up about 20 minutes before tapings begin at noon. "I know all the games, I don't need to learn the prices, I don't need to. I know how the games are played, and I just play along with the contestants and have a good time and laugh all day. So, thanks for the trophy."
