Opening Theme

Hello everyone and by everyone,  I do mean you reading. Welcome to yet another fantastic.....

A snowpocalypse has wrecked loose into Pacific Bay so we evacuated Podcast Hill and I'm now into a bungalow on Mermaid Lagoon for the time being until the snow was evaporated. Come to think the stores and gas stations were packed wall to wall because lines were so much longer than lunch at school. You had to get there early to  find out what's for lunch today without the possibility of being what's left with a ham sandwich or either Square pizza. I actually hated school cafeteria pizza. But enough of this school stuff, you got your first assignment:

The Double Toasted opening tossup story.

looks like Survivor Season 41 is almost ready to start filming.

The great news just came out today that crews are expected to arrive in Fiji very soon and that it won’t be long before the Survivor 41 cast is competing for the million-dollar prize.

According to FBC News, “A number of film productions have been approved by the Ministry of Trade and Commerce.” One of the shows that has reportedly been approved is Survivor, which means CBS might not have to wait much longer before it can put the reality competition show back on the air.

“Survivor will be filming in Fiji with the crew expecting to arrive in the next few days,” said Fiji’s Ministry of Trade and Commerce Minister Faiyaz Koya. Koya went on to say that, “They have to stagger the way they actually come because most of the crew are sitting in different parts of the world, but all done under the guidance of the Ministry of Health. We follow the necessary protocol to protect our own citizens.”

This is extraordinarily great news, as Survivor had been at a standstill in regard to filming due to the coronavirus pandemic. It caused CBS to cancel the fall 2020 season of

But down under....

Adventure reality show “Australian Survivor” is to shoot in Queensland, Australia following the injection of cash from the federal government’s Location Incentive Fund.

The first five seasons of the show, which airs on ViacomCBS's Network 10, had previously lensed in Pacific island countries Samoa and Fiji.

Preparations to shoot season six in Fiji had been under way before the coronavirus outbreak halted work in early 2020. Now, the Endemol Shine Australia show will be filmed deep in the outback, in Cloncurry, 1,700 km north-west of Brisbane. The area is known for its harsh climate and challenging weather conditions.

Federal Communications and Arts Minister Paul Fletcher said: “ ‘Australian Survivor was one of the many world–renowned productions jeopardized by the COVID-19 pandemic, which is why we are pleased to provide A$3.9 million ($3.02 million) to get the series back on our screens in 2021.” The federal Location Incentives Program, received a A$400 million ($310 million) funding injection intended to restart the film and TV production sectors. Fletcher said the production should result in a A$29 million ($22.5 million) boost to the regional economy. Separately, Queensland’s state Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said that the show “will inject an estimated A$14.6 million ($11.3 million) into the state’s economy and create approximately 150 jobs for Queensland crew.”

The value of Queensland’s financial contribution to the production is not known.

Hang loose, we got more after this.

Valentine's day is well removed and was different thanks to the virus, but our very own Fountain Drink Fairy Bonnie Gordon has a little song from a classic Disney song....but with a little something interesting.  You watch.

This is a wheel.

And this is a wheel.

And this too is a wheel.

And believe it or not,  this is also a wheel.

But this.....

.....is a wheel. That's because......

NBC is taking The Wheel for a Stateside spin, giving a 10-episode order to an adaptation of the BBC One game show.

The Wheel very recently wrapped its freshman run across the pond, where it is hosted by series creator Michael McIntyre and on Saturday nights averaged 6.3 million viewers with DVR playback folded in, making it the top game show for BBC Primetime since 2011.

The Wheel features seven celebrity experts who are seated around a 42-foot-wide, rotating wheel. Three players, meanwhile, are randomly picked from a smaller wheel underneath centerstage. Correct answers keep you at centerstage, while wrong answers kick you out. Only the contestant at the center of the wheel at the end of the game has a chance to take home “a life-changing sum of money.”

When answering a question on a certain topic, the player has access to one of the experts, chosen at random with a spin of the outside wheel.

“It’s incredibly rare in this day and age for a new show to become an unqualified smash hit overnight, let alone in the biggest territory in Europe,” Warner Bros. Unscripted Television chief Mike Darnell said in a statement. “We are thrilled to be in business with Hungry McBear and our amazing partners at NBC, who immediately saw The Wheel’s potential and picked it up within 24 hours of the pitch.”

“I’m thrilled The Wheel is spinning Stateside,” said McIntyre, who will EP the U.S. edition. “Hosting this show is the most fun I’ve had on television. The format creates wonderful camaraderie among the celebrities, natural hilarity and genuine suspense. I can’t wait for The Wheel to roll across America.”.

Here's your feel good story of the day.

Fourteen suits, 58 dress shirts, 300 neckties and various other items of clothing that once belonged to Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek have been donated by the show and the Trebek family to The Doe Fund, an organization that provides paid work, housing, vocational training, continuing education, and comprehensive social services to underserved Americans with histories of addiction, homelessness, and incarceration.

At the suggestion of Trebek’s son Matthew Trebek, a supporter of The Doe Fund, the clothing will be distributed to those participating in the organization’s “Ready, Willing and Able” reentry program to be worn on job interviews.

“During his last day on set, Alex extolled the virtues of everyone opening up their hands and their hearts to those who are suffering,” said Mike Richards, Executive Producer, Jeopardy!. “Donating his wardrobe to those who are working to rebuild their lives is the perfect way to begin to honor that last request.”

The garments were packed up by Matthew Trebek and Jeopardy! costumer Steven Zimbelman, and the final inventory was:
- 58 dress shirts
- 14 suits
- 300 neckties
- 25 polo shirts
- 14 sweaters
- 9 sports coats
- 9 pairs of dress shoes
- 15 belts
- 2 parkas
- 3 pairs of dress slacks.

“We are so grateful for Jeopardy! and the Trebek family’s commitment to lifting up the most vulnerable among us,” said Harriet McDonald, President of The Doe Fund. “The men in our career training programs are always in need of professional attire, so they can shine in their job interviews and work with confidence once they’re hired. This donation alleviates the obstacle of not having appropriate clothing.”

Harriet continued, “We understand the enormous loss Matt and Jean are going through, as well as their incredible resilience in the face of hardship. Last week, The Doe Fund’s Founder and President of 35 years, my husband George McDonald, passed away. I’m thankful that George got to see Alex’s suits delivered to the people we serve before he left us. This generous gift honors the legacies of both men, and I know they’re smiling down on us.”

Trebek died from pancreatic cancer on Nov. 8, 2020. The game show is being hosted by various temporary guest hosts.

Discovery+ is set to present some roses to its subscribers after picking up a handful of seasons of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette.

The streamer has acquired five seasons of the ABC dating franchise and will launch them on February 13, ahead of Valentine’s Day. It has picked up seasons 19 and 22 of The Bachelor, seasons nine and 15 of The Bachelorette and season one of The Bachelor Winter Games.

The streamer is also expected to pick up more seasons of both shows, cycling in and out of the service.

It is the latest example of the patchwork quilt-style streaming deals for linear shows, particularly in the non-scripted world where shows repeat less regularly.

We’ve had Michael McIntyre and his revolving game show of motion-sickness inducing trivia, and we’ve had Danny Dyer shouting cockney put downs at a sentient Wall. Now it’s time for a new guilty pleasure Saturday night game show from another unlikely host.

Not a new cookery show, instead Gordon Ramsay is transferring from chef to host with Bank Balance, his first time fronting a shiny-floor game show.

The BBC describe Bank Balance as “a high-stakes, high-pressure game show where contestants test their poise, precision, knowledge, and nerve to succeed to build themselves a fortune - or see it come crashing down in an instant.”

The intricacies of the game have not yet been explained (we’ll certainly get a lengthy rundown at the top of the first episode), but the game seems to involve a tipping table on which they must balance comically oversized gold bars. There will be questions to contend with too, and presumably your trivia skills determine by which angle the table will tip – what’s left on the table at the end of the game, you get to take home.

Ramsay is full of optimism for his first foray into the world of game show hosting, describing the new show as “truly epic.

"It is such an intense game with so much jeopardy to win big and lose even bigger, where the difference between failure and success is always in the balance. I’m so happy to be working with the fantastic team at the BBC and cannot wait to get in the studio and start stacking those gold bars!”

Will the famously sweary chef keep his trademark bad language in check, though? He says in the trailer for the show, “I promise not to shout, I promise not to swear, I promise not to be mean, but I won’t promise to make it easy”, but then he does break each one of those promises, including telling a contestant “By the time you’ve picked the category I’m gonna be older than Mary Berry.”

It’s a good thing the show airs after the 9pm watershed.

Kate Phillips, Controller of Entertainment Commissioning, says: “Bank Balance is a great format where contestants need to balance nerve with knowledge. And Gordon will be a formidable and unforgettable host."

Buried Treasure.

Ahoy, we found a discovery.

Hosted by NY Sports anchor Tony Hernandez and putting Don Pardo to work as announcer, 2 contestants picked answers that fit a category,  but 5 are correct and 5 aren't. This inspired a forerunner to 1988's Wipeout. The player would then challenge or agree in getting links that surround the prize similar to Round 2 of Get The Picture. Getting all 5 prizes meant you had to try for the car in 60 seconds by letting the host put 5 answers out of 10 and hearing Don how many you got right. Please, it was better in 1988 running around touching the rim of 6 screens and going back to hit the button and if you got less than 6, you had to turn something off. This in turn was produced by Bud Austin who also teamed up with Jay Wolpert to make this cult classic:

You get it now?
