The Double Toasted opening toss up story.
ABC has set early-2021 premiere dates for new seasons of its reality hits The Bachelor and American Idol, along with the return of To Tell the Truth and the debuts of three new game shows: Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, The Chase and The Hustler.
Matt James is the new Bachelor in Season 25 of the franchise-launching juggernaut, which returns on Monday, January 4. The fourth season of the ABC version of American Idol will tune up on Valentine's Day Sunday, February 14, with Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, Ryan Seacrest and Bobby Bones.
The sixth primetime season of the game show stalwart To Tell the Truth, with Anthony Anderson and Mama Doris, kicks off on Tuesday, January 26. Three weeks before that, ABC will introduce three new hourlong game shows on Thursday, January 9. Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, hosted by Pat Sajak and Vanna White, is a spinoff that marks the longtime syndie sensation's primetime debut. It'll be followed at 9 p.m. by The Chase, which has Jeopardy! GOATs James Holzhauer, Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter taking turns competing against regular contestants in the U.S. version of the British format. The night will wrap with The Hustler at 10 p.m., hosted by former Late Late Show frontman Craig Ferguson.
Here are details about the three new series, followed a rundown of ABC's unscripted lineup for the winter:
CELEBRITY WHEEL OF FORTUNE Celebrity Wheel of Fortune takes a new spin on the iconic game show Wheel of Fortune with the primetime debut of America's Game. Hosted by Pat Sajak and Vanna White, Celebrity Wheel of Fortune welcomes celebrity contestants to come spin the world's most famous wheel and solve word puzzles for a chance to win up to one million dollars. All of the money won by the celebrity contestants will go to a charity of their choice.
THE CHASE The Chase is a heart-racing quiz show where three competitors must pit their wits and face off against the Chaser, a ruthless quiz genius determined to stop them from winning cash prizes. Each hourlong episode is a fast-paced battle of brainpower, where contestants are challenged to think faster than they ever thought possible to answer up to 166 questions across all topics.
THE HUSTLER Hosted by Emmy-winning host, actor, writer and comedian Craig Ferguson, The Hustler breaks the game show mold by featuring one player who secretly already knows the answers. Don't be fooled. Just because they have a leg up doesn't mean they'll be taking home the prize. Each episode of The Hustler follows five contestants as they collaborate to answer a series of trivia questions worth $10,000 each, with the goal of building a collective prize pot that increases with each correct answer. The catch? One of the five contestants, the Hustler, already knows the answers but must keep their identity a secret in order to have a shot at winning the grand prize. Throughout each episode, two contestants are anonymously eliminated by the Hustler, leaving three remaining contestants — the Hustler and two others, who must collectively decide who they think the Hustler is. If they are right, they share the prize pot that could be worth over $100,000. If the two contestants are wrong, the Hustler goes home with the full cash reward.. .

Game Show Network, the leader in game shows and competitive entertainment, has greenlit an all-new edition of the popular word association game show CHAIN REACTION.
Actor and TV personality Dylan Lane, who originally hosted the show's network premiere 14 years ago, returns to host the new half-hour series, which is slated to premiere in early 2021 and air Monday through Friday.
Based on the Sony Pictures Television format created by Bob Stewart, the classic game show - which originally debuted in the 1980s - features two teams competing against one another to complete chains of words, after the first and last words of the chain are revealed. Each word in the chain is related in some way to the word directly above and below it. By making inferences based on the revealed words and the revealed letters in incomplete words, contestants try to fill in the word chains to win money.
Dylan Lane is best known to viewers for hosting Game Show Network's first iteration of CHAIN REACTION from 2006-2007. He also hosted the "National Vocabulary Championship," the first-ever nation-wide vocabulary competition for high school students, for the network in 2007 and 2008. Previously, Lane served as a VJ and host on music-centric channel Fuse TV's "The F-List" and "Daily Download." The native Pennsylvanian also worked in scripted television with a recurring role as Justin Carter in the TV show "What Goes On," which aired on The N. Presently, Lane is a married father of two and works as a fleet engineer for GE in New York.

Answer: This writer who covers sports and culture for The Ringer is a major "Jeopardy!" fan with a new book called "Answers in the Form of Questions" (Twelve Books, $28).
The response: Who is Claire McNear?
The journalist, who pens a column on "Jeopardy!" for the pop culture website, shares her passion for the game in her book that's equal parts history, insider's guide and love letter. "It's the ultimate contact sport," she said in a phone interview from her home in Washington, D.C.
The book opens with her visit to the set during the "Greatest of All Time" tournament earlier this year involving the show's holy trinity of champions — Ken Jennings, James Holzhauer and Brad Rutter.
In addition to speaking with them, "Answers in the Form of Questions" is chock full of interviews with host Alex Trebek; colorful contestants from long ago (remember New York City Transit cop Frank Spangenberg?) and the recent past (quirky bartender Austin Rogers); Celebrity Tournament superstars (Sea Cliff native Michael McKean); a glimpse of the original version hosted by Art Fleming; Trebek's choice for his replacement ("Why, Betty White, of course") and more.
McNear writes that the show might have never come back if it wasn't for the popularity of "Weird" Al Yankovic's 1984 music video "I Lost on 'Jeopardy!' " She also notes that "Weird" Al was considered to host the show. "Can you imagine what that would have been like?" she said. "I don't know how seriously they considered him, but it would have been a very different show."

Here's something interesting......
CBS announced today a target for all future unscripted programs to have casts with at least 50% of the contestants being Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC), beginning in the 2021-2022 broadcast season.
The Network will also allocate at least a quarter of its annual unscripted development budget to projects created or co-created by BIPOC producers, also starting in the 2021-2022 season. In addition, the Network will develop future initiatives with its production partners to expand diversity in all of the creative and production teams involved in making an unscripted series.
"The reality TV genre is an area that's especially underrepresented, and needs to be more inclusive across development, casting, production and all phases of storytelling," said George Cheeks, President and Chief Executive Officer for the CBS Entertainment Group. "As we strive to improve all of these creative aspects, the commitments announced today are important first steps in sourcing new voices to create content and further expanding the diversity in our unscripted programming, as well as on our Network."
The initiatives announced today build on the targets and commitments CBS unveiled in July for scripted programming. The Network announced it will allocate a minimum of 25% of its future script development budgets to projects created or co-created by Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC). CBS also set a target for its writers' rooms to be staffed with a minimum of 40% BIPOC representation beginning with the 2021-2022 broadcast television season, and a goal to increase that number to 50% the following season (2022-2023) .

Lee Mack has been announced as the host of new ITV game show The 1% Club. The comedian has filmed eight hour-long episodes of the new format, which "invites viewers to discover if they are in The 1% Club."
Producers Magnum Media explain the format "is the quiz show that everyone of all ages and backgrounds can take part in, because, unlike most quizzes, you don't need to swot up on general knowledge to do well. All you need is logic and common sense.
"In The 1% Club, 100 contestants begin every show - but to make it to the end and win the top prize of up to £100,000, contestants must correctly answer a question only 1% of the country would get right.
"Each contestant starts with £1000 and one free pass, but if they answer incorrectly, they are out and their grand goes into the prize pot. Beginning with questions that 90% of the country got right, based on a sample of answers given by 1000 people across Britain, and building up step by step to puzzlers smaller and smaller percentages answered correctly, each time contestants flunk their answers, the prize money swells.
"As the questions get harder and the contestants numbers dwindle, host Lee breaks the tension with his quick-fire wit, teasing the contestants as their brains do somersaults in the battle to make it to the end of the show and a shot at the prize pot."
Mack recently co-hosted woodworking show The Chop. However the series was taken off air when viewers pointed out the tattoos of one of the contestants appeared to be linked to far right ideologies.

The box is locked, the lights are on........
Next month, it's robot fighting time!!!
After production was halted due to COVID-19 earlier this year, BATTLEBOTS is back for a brand-new season of epic robotic combat. Sixty teams from across the globe have converged for the hardest hitting, unremitting, steel splitting tournament in combat robotics. Unproven rookies, up-and-coming stars and legends in the game will throw their fearsome fighting machines into the BattleBox for a chance to walk away with the preeminent prize in robotic sport: The Giant Nut.
The ultimate robot-fighting series, BATTLEBOTS returns for an all-new metal crunching season, premiering Thursday, December 3 at 8PM ET/PT on Discovery Channel.
The action-packed metal madness kicks off with an epic main clash - former world champion Ray Billings with his lethal bot Tombstone faces Jack Barker's End Game from New Zealand. Other stars include Whiplash and SawBlaze, both with championship aspirations. Captain Shrederator, hoping to spin its way to a win against Lock-Jaw, and Bloodsport, who will be out for blood against Skorpios. This year's builders have put their robots to the ultimate test and will stop at nothing to take down the competition.
Sportscaster Chris Rose and UFC fighter Kenny Florian return once again to provide play-by-play commentary, while Jenny Taft reports from the builder pits and Faruq Tauheed is the ring announcer. Also, a new expert will be joining the commentary team: the Bot Whisperer, aka BATTLEBOTS veteran and robot guru Peter Abrahamson.
Filming with cast, crew and bot builders was carried out under the strictest health and safety protocols, with constant supervision and regular testing, and without a live audience. Instead, the spectators were the teams themselves, watching all the action (and their competitors) from specially constructed "opera boxes" placed around the giant BattleBox arena.

I know a lot of you are watching Wheel of Fortune. That's true. And I know you may be wondering.....what's that white thing the contestants are holding? Well, you may be thinking a Wii controller, but no. These are called: Wheel holders. Intended for the covid-19 era, these holders prevent the spinners' hands from........you know, just by spinning the wheel. This joins Jeopardy! as the 2 twin mates of Sony follow the guidelines as teh virus keeps raging on. I wonder if TPIR could do the same thing with a stick to spin the wheel after getting their hands sanitized?
Madison: Game Show Live! is a presenation of Jackbox Media Services, Spy Fox Entertainment and Pluto TV Networks which may or may not be responsible for the mess we made. I'm not joking. Really.
