 The whatstrending.com Opening Toss-Up story.

Our (three-month) long national nightmare is over... and it's time to get back to work. Three syndicated game shows and one app are celebrating new seasons today.
After several fallow years, the first-run syndication market is poised for a shot of adrenaline in 2019. The next two weeks will bring more national launches — seven — than any year since 2011, when Oprah Winfrey still had her daytime show.
Three talk shows — fronted by music star and The Voice judge Kelly Clarkson, former NBC News anchor Tamron Hall and best-selling author and speaker Mel Robbins — two game shows and two court shows, one starring Jerry Springer, are on tap. They're debuting in a time where linear ratings for broadcast shows are on the wane, and in a crowded field: There are more than 40 first-run syndicated shows set to air in 2019-20.
The syndication market also tends to heavily favor long-running shows: Of the 10 most watched first-run syndicated shows last season, only one, court show Hot Bench, has been on the air for less than 15 years (it debuted in 2014).
The people behind the shows told The Hollywood Reporter they're optimistic about their chances to make a dent in a landscape that hasn't been very hospitable to new series in recent years.

Highlights...
- FUNNY YOU SHOULD ASK (season 3, today): On the panel for the first week of shows in the new season are Jon Lovitz, Sherri Shepherd, Louie Anderson, Byron Allen, Jodi Miller, and Jamie Kennedy
- JEOPARDY! (season 36, today): after six weeks of reruns, Jason Zuffranieri returns to defend his title and add to his $137,300 in the first episodes taped since Alex Trebek's cancer diagnosis fight began.
- WHEEL OF FORTUNE (season 37, today): The new year begins with Teachers Week and a big change: no more 1/2 Cars on the Wheel, and a new twist - a Triple Toss-up.
- HQ TRIVIA (season 6): It's Back to School on the granddaddy of 'em all. Levels and points are reset as the app continues to experiment with new game types and offer new prizes - including rewards based on how long you've been playing. Everyone will be sorted into a "class" - freshman through seniors - and the "class" with the most points at the end of the week gets "special prizes". There's also a prize for "perfect attendance"- playing every game. . Meanwhile, on HQ Sports, winners will be automatically entered into an All-Star Game to be held at the end of the season. Additionally, anyone who correctly answers Question 8 will also be invited to participate.
- 25 WORDS OR LESS (September 16): After a three-week trial run on nine Fox-owned stations in 2018, the Meredith Vieira-hosted show (produced by Dino Bones Productions) is going national with clearances in more than 90 percent of the country. Stephen Brown, executive vp programming and development at Fox TV Stations, said the tryout helped make the case for the show's wider launch. The week ends with Apollo Crews "and a ton of WWE Superstars".
- AMERICA SAYS (September 16): A syndicated rebroadcast of the Game Show Network's primetime original, America Says was a late addition to the syndicated pool this season with a deal struck in June. Host John Michael Higgins presides over both versions of the show, which will feature the same gameplay and stakes.
- FAMILY FEUD (September 16): No big changes planned for syndication's #1 game show, but Fremantle is going to take it on the road as a live tour.

Just ahead,  DWTS makes a lot of changes. See why, but first......

Dancing with the Stars is introducing a new voting system this fall for the show's upcoming 28th season. Dancing with the Stars viewers are going to have to vote live or vote blind in a short window of time this coming season!
ABC has announced Dancing with the Stars fans will only be able to vote as the live broadcasts air in the Eastern and Central time zones. That means after an episode ends, the viewer voting will too, unlike in previous seasons.
Viewers in the Mountain and Pacific time zones will still also be able to vote for their favorites; however, they must vote during the same period of time as Eastern and Central time zone viewers, which means they'll probably have to vote without being able to actually watch the dance routines first.
There will also be no home-viewer votes tabulated during the first week of performances when Dancing with the Stars' 28th season premieres live on Monday, September 16 at 8PM ET/PT. During the first week of competition, only judges' scores will matter.
As previously announced, the new Dancing with the Stars season will be judged by Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Len Goodman.
Live voting on abc.com and via text will commence with Week 2 of the Dancing with the Stars season.

But.....

Dancing with the Stars has not waltzed into a good start after Christie Brinkley was forced to exit from the show after breaking her arm during rehearsals.
However, good news for Brinkley fans is that she has been replaced by her daughter, Sailor Brinkley-Cook, a Sports Illustrated model.
Brinkley's injury comes as the show is set to debut on ABC tonight at 8 pm.
"Showbiz is all about getting a break, and Sailor and I both got one on Dancing with the Stars this season," said a punning Christie Brinkley. "Sailor joined the cast when I got mine … ouch somebody stop me, it hurts to laugh."
An ABC spokeswomen said, "While rehearsing for the premiere of Dancing with the Stars, Christie Brinkley suffered injuries which required surgery to her wrist and arm. She is unable to continue her planned participation on the show. Keeping it all in the family, her daughter Sailor Brinkley-Cook, has chosen to quickly step in with hours to learn the entire routine and will compete in her mother's place for the remainder of the season. We wish Christie a full and speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her in the audience, whenever possible, proudly supporting Sailor."
Brinkley-Cook will be joined in the 28th season of the reality competition series by Sean Spicer, The Office's Kate Flannery, James Van Der Beek, ex-Supreme Mary Wilson, NBA champ Lamar Odom and The Bachelorette's Hannah Brown.

Ten-time Grammy Award winner and record-breaking global pop icon Taylor Swift will serve as the Mega Mentor on Season 17 of NBC's four-time Emmy Award-winning musical competition series "The Voice."
Coaches John Legend and Blake Shelton made the announcement on Instagram and Twitter today.
As "The Voice" Mega Mentor, Taylor will join coaches Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani to mentor the artists and prepare each team for the Knockout Rounds, which will begin airing in late October.
During the Knockout Rounds, the artists will be paired with a teammate and select their own songs to perform individually.
Taylor will be on hand to work with all four coaches and their teams to provide feedback, suggestions and praise as the artists prepare for their performance. The coaches alone will choose the winner, and the artist not selected will be available to be stolen by another coach. They are vying for their coach's confidence and decision to take them to the final and crucial round before the Live Performance Shows, the Live Playoffs.
This season each coach will only have one steal in the Knockout Rounds, making the stakes higher than ever for the artists. Taylor previously served as the Mega Mentor on Season 7 of "The Voice." She also performed her chart-topping single "ME!" ft. Brendon Urie of Panic! At the Disco on the Season 16 finale of "The Voice" earlier this year.
"The Voice" premieres Monday, Sept. 23 (8-10 p.m. ET/PT) on NBC. .

This fall, swolemates bring the heat to Paramount Network when the all-new competition series, Battle of the Fittest Couples premieres on Tuesday, October 15 at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT.
Battle of the Fittest Couples takes ripped couples and puts them through an intense competition that not only tests them on their physical and mental toughness, but how they work together as a team.
Hosted by real life couple, former Bachelorette, JoJo Fletcher and former NFL Quarterback Jordan Rodgers these two are no strangers to the competition world.
"We are so excited to be hosting, Battle of the Fittest Couples! We love working out as a couple, through doing so, we have learned so much about each other, and it has strengthened our relationship," says JoJo Fletcher. "Not only is this a physical competition, but it's about partnership and our goal is to have every couple leave this competition stronger both emotionally and physically," says Jordan Rodgers.
In Battle of the Fittest Couples, 12 of the toughest and most competitive couples battle their way through grueling, physical and mental main event challenges that will put every ounce of their athleticism to the test. The losing couple is automatically put up for elimination and the winning couple gets to call the shots on choosing another couple to send with them into the "Rage Cage." The ruthless rivals will then battle it out in a head-to-head brawl where one team will prevail and the other, sent home.
Through every episode, physical limits are pushed, alliances are made, and relationships are tested. In the end only one couple will win $100,000 and be named "Fittest Couple." .

On to this streaming news item.

Making its first move into the key unscripted space, HBO Max, the upcoming direct-to-consumer offering from WarnerMedia set to launch in the spring of 2020, has ordered two original unscripted series, Legendary and The Greatest Space (working title) straight to series.
Legendary will be serving up 10 episodes of all body and face, with no shade. In this show, divas will battle on voguing teams called "houses," with the chance to win a cash prize in ballsy fashion and dance challenges to ultimately achieve "Legendary" status. Voguing is a competitive style of modern dance featuring over-the-top fashion and choreography based on poses struck by models on a catwalk. Legendary will feature 10 voguing "houses," each comprised of five performers and a leader - the house "parent." The teams rotate in a round-robin format, and each episode documents a themed ball from start to finish. They Walk. They Serve. They Live to Slay.
The Greatest Space (wt), a 10-episode epic design competition show, will feature interior designers traveling around the world to transform an eclectic mix of empty rooms into spectacular spaces. In each one-hour episode, pairs of professional designers will head out on a country-hopping adventure, traveling to a new city in search of their canvas. Along the way, challenges will force them to lift directly from some of the most glamorous, audacious and ambitious rooms all around the world. From ballrooms to bedrooms to treehouses and everything in between, competitors battle to win the judges' favor. High stakes, surprises, language barriers and exotic locales await these designers, along with unpredictable eliminations. But, if they can hold on, the dwindling designers will gain access to larger, more surprising and more imaginative spaces, in pursuit of a substantial cash prize.
"Unscripted programming will be an incredibly important component of our HBO Max originals, and this is just the beginning of our venture into this space. These two initial shows will transport audiences to underground worlds and take them on visually stunning, exotic adventures, equaled only by the compelling stories of each contestant," said Sarah Aubrey, head of original content, HBO Max. "We couldn't have more accomplished teams behind both of these shows. From the innovative and award-winning storytellers at both Scout and Bertram van Munster's New Media Collective, we are reimagining the unscripted competition genre."

I love a trivia app. I love to see and hear somebody play trivia. With those apps, they carry me away, and there's only a finer way to treat them and love them. I love to touch my fingers to where the right answer leads, and with the questions, I go mental from with people from LA to Broadway, and those push notifations get me invited to see a college graduate play, so enough with that controller, because I'm ready to tell the truth about the apps that let me stop right where you are and battle, Because it's.....
