 The whatstrending.com Opening Toss-Up story.

Alex Trebek is returning to work as Jeopardy! host this week, nearly six months after revealing he had been diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
The six-time Daytime Emmy winner (and Lifetime Achievement honoree) released a video (below) on Thursday afternoon announcing that his chemotherapy treatments are "over" and he is now "on the mend."
The video has him talking about the Jeopardy! wizard James Holzhauer and the latest champ Jason Zuffranieri. We also see him interacting with the audience and backstage at Jeopardy! The show is currently taping its 36th season. "We've got some exciting things coming up, and I can't wait to share them with all of you," said Trebek in the video. "Let me tell you, it's going to be a good year."
Trebek shared his cancer diagnosis on March 6, saying, "I'm going to fight this, and I'm going to keep working," he said. "And with the love and support of my family and friends, and with the help of your prayers also, I plan to beat the low survival-rate statistics for this disease." In late May, he offered an update on his treatment/health, saying that some of his tumors "have already shrunk by more than 50 percent" following chemotherapy, despite the disheartening survival rate for Stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
"The doctors said they hadn't seen this kind of positive result in their memory," Trebek said at that time, adding that he cried "tears of joy, not tears of depression" upon learning the good news.
Season 36 of Jeopardy!, with Trebek back as host, premieres Monday, Sept. 9 in syndication.

After this commercial word,  More on Mike Richards going to Sony.  That's......when Game Show Live returns.

And what you're about to see......well..........watch.

Mike Richards is set to take over as executive producer of "Jeopardy!" and "Wheel of Fortune" when Harry Friedman exits next year.
Friedman announced his plans to retire from the game show world at the beginning of this month after 25 years with Sony Pictures Television.
Richards, who served as executive producer of "The Price is Right" for over ten years and also worked on "Let's Make a Deal," announced plans to leave both shows in June after signing an overall deal with SPT.
"Wheel of Fortune" is currently in production on its 37th season, while and "Jeopardy!" is taping its 36th. Both will premiere on Sept. 9.
"'Wheel of Fortune' and 'Jeopardy!' are the gold standard of television — exceptional, timeless formats produced by amazing teams. Alex Trebek, Vanna White and Pat Sajak are incredible hosts and I can't wait to work side by side with them on these world-class franchises. Harry Friedman's 25-year run can only be described as legendary. I have long been inspired by his hard work and brilliant decision making, and I'm honored to get to work with Harry over the next few months. Thank you to Mike Hopkins and the entire Sony team for this dream opportunity," said Richards.
"We are fortunate to have Mike, one of the top game show producers in the business, join the talented teams at Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy!," said Mike Hopkins, Chairman of Sony Pictures Television. "Mike's experience working with long-running franchises like 'Price Is Right' and 'Let's Make a Deal' make him the ideal successor for our iconic shows. We also look forward to Mike growing our already strong game show business and to developing and producing shows for network, cable, and streaming platforms. We are grateful for the leadership and impeccable direction Harry has so elegantly provided over many years and look forward to the continued success of these beloved shows."

Saturday Night Live standout Leslie Jones is leaving NBC's late-night sketch comedy program after five seasons to pursue a slew of film and TV projects. Deadline reports that one of these projects is Supermarket Sweep, a reboot of the classic TV game show that Jones will be hosting and executive producing.
Deadline reports the revival, from Fremantle - owner of the format created by Al Howard and run on TV from 1967-1968 and again in the 1990s & 2000s - has been generating a lot of interest, with multiple networks bidding on it, both traditional broadcasters and streamers, with the list including ABC, NBC, Fox and Netflix.
ABC has a potent lineup of classic game show revivals where Supermarket Sweep with actress-comedian Jones would fit in nicely, including Match Game, hosted by fellow SNL-er Alec Baldwin, and a couple hosted by actor-comedians, including Celebrity Family Feud with Steve Harvey and To Tell the Truth, hosted by Anthony Anderson. Jones will appear on ABC's revival of The $100,000 Pyramid, facing off against Rosie O'Donnell.

Now a very small.....story.

Nickelodeon is giving a full series order to a holiday-themed competition called Top Elf to its roster of unscripted shows. The two shows fall under Nickelodeon's new unscripted division.
Top Elf begins filming its five-episode order in September for a holiday-season debut.
"Giving our audience a range of unscripted content in different formats is one of our top priorities," Rob Bagshaw, executive vp unscripted content at Nickelodeon, said Wednesday in a statement. "Top Elf is an irresistible opportunity to celebrate the holidays with a uniquely comedic approach to a high-stakes competition."
Top Elf will bring seven kids with exceptional design and building skills to the North Pole for a series of holiday-themed challenges. The participants will compete to have their wish lists fulfilled — not for themselves, but for members of their communities.
Mike and Tim Duffy of Ugly Brother Studios created the series and executive produce with Jimmy Fox of Main Event Media, an All3Media America company. Bob Schermerhorn, showrunner Lisa Fletcher and Nick's Paul J. Medford and Mandel Ilagan are also exec producers, and Michael Pearlman will direct.
The two series join an unscripted and game-show lineup at Nick that also includes reboots of Double Dare and Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?, The Dude Perfect Show, Crashletes, Keep it Spotless and Lip Sync Battle Shorties. The network also has greenlit the competition show America's Most Musical Family, hosted by Nick Lachey..

The kids are back at school and summer is nearly over. Which brings us to one activity they've been doing all summer: Mobile trivia. ANd that's in our next segment.......

HQ season 5 was off to a good start and all, but this Sunday, it all comes to a short end. This time, Mighty Matt Richards is getting a co-host for the Sunday finale. The season 6 premiere will be soon..........I guess.

Hurricane Dorian is approaching the Carolinas as of this week and The Q had no choice but to release games at 4:30 this week until the storm passes. Just wanted to pass it along to you.

And just when you think Cash Quiz Live was trying real hard.....

Indiegogo would've helped out had it been for that or else, GoFundMe, but so far as of this writing.....only $6 has been in the campaign. Not good.

Up to the state that practically invented the live mobile game show and this.....

A New York City start up plans to change the way smart phone users digest game shows. Josh Liss and Tyler Fisher of Long Island launched Bop Live this year, a live mini-game show that allows users to download the mobile app and compete to win cash prizes.
Fisher and Liss are the creative forces behind Bop, marking their first joint business venture together. Previously, the 24 year olds have pursued careers in marketing and mobile app development.
Bop Live is available on iOs and will be available on Android in the near future. Users can participate in live shows once a week and programming is hosted by Moran. Users will be notified before live shows begin, currently planned for when they download the app
To register, users must enter their phone number. Throughout their gameplay, users collect “Bopcoins” to redeem through in-app purchases.
On the days when no live shows are planned, users have 10 chances to practice the mini games available. For more information, visit www.bop.network.
And finally, Swagbucks Live ushers a good way to get into fall...........with this.

Now the segment that got of all of America happy and sad all at the same time............

http://www.qwizx.com/gssfx/usa/blockbredring.wav

Buzz-GSN where we ask you guys on the GSN facebook page everything and anything.

Glenn Untiedt will begin with..............

"Do you bring in the dumbest people for common knowledge?? Don’t know answers a third grader would know. Lady actually thought an ostrich could fly??"

I guess its writers who come up with these hard queries. Next is Joe Aglione.

"Have to ask, what is going on with Match Game and skipping episodes like this morning? Do you not have the rights to all of them? Did something happen during the show that it can't be rebroadcast? Very curious."

That and Buzzr. The latter has way older episodes. They even skip sometimes too. On to Roland Reagan.

"I enjoy the Best Ever Trivia Show, except the host Sherri. Sherri is too loud. If she would tone it down her performance would be great."

At least you get teh see the trivia experts. Next up, Claire Elizabeth.

"FYI, whomever writes the questions for Common Knowledge the Congress is in fact, part of the Legislative branch. Y'all owe those guys a redo. I have taught government/history for the last 17 years."

Somebody get the writer a write up on that. George B. Feist is up next.

"FIRE THE CONTINUITY PEOPLE....4 SHOWS FROM 77 WERE SHOWN.....OUT OF SEQUENCE WITH 78 SHOWS....COME ON!!!! GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER....READ THE DATE ON THE BOX!!!!"

Can't they just show all the 77 ones and then 78 up next? Maxine Dickerson will end it.

"Could you PLEASe reschedule the thirty minute time slot for Common Knowledge?? At least three nights a week, the final ten thousand dollar round is cut short...and goes off.....BEFORE WE KNOW The final results! When the show comes back on after the final commercials, unless there is at least four minutes and forty five seconds left,We do NOT see the final round.....sooooo frustrating! PLEASE Fix this problem. thanks!"

It's the problems of GSN. Not us.

Now for a gamestop Game Break. Look at this PYL 1985 screenshot:

Now the question: Although she is still alive, many reporters called her "The Steel Magnolia." who is she?

We'll give you some time to think after a Google Play music interlude. After so much buzz from last year thanks to all of you, Super Single is returning to this blog. We are going to pick things back up where we left off with episode 6 and by next year, we'll have the 2nd season. right now, let's get back to where season 1 left off.

And are you happy that you got the correct answer?

And guess what? She's still kicking it in her 90s.

Before she came to the announcing booth this morning, our hidden camera spotted our Match game mistress of impressionism Madi2theMax going a get ready with me video which you've seen on those beauty vloggers on Youtube.........while talking to herself. Watch.

The Lightning Rant. 90 seconds to talk about Buzzr's fast way to roll teh credits starting from.................

http://www.qwizx.com/gssfx/usa/mtg-buzzin2.wav

Now.

In an attempt to make a lot more money and rival that of GSN, they decided to crunch the credits of a certain show and immediately go to the next show. Is this stupid? I mean, look at Antenna TV, they are doing their own thing but what about TV Land? Well, they got the credits 1/3 of teh screen. WHy is this anyway? Because most fans are mad about why the credits should be rolled the way vintage people saw it with fee plugs. At first, they cut out intros for what's My line?, we know that, then TTTT censors out.....kinda. But now credit crunches make it harder to see. WHen I was watching Chain Reaction, it's hard to see the people involved in this production back in 2006. But it's just an experiment. If this happens, will they turn away from Buzzr? We'll see about that.

That's it for this week. Today's consolation prize is  a Blu-Ray DVD copy of a Jerry Clower comedy special from a bargain bin. No need for a netflix special with controversial jokes, it's pure clean fun.
