Part of the intoxicating allure that made "The Masked Singer" the No. 1 new show last season was that no one knew WTF was going on or had it on their radar at all when it was filmed. Now that everyone knows what the show is, some of that excitement might be gone when Season 2 premieres next month, but Fox is not concerned.
"What's remarkable about first-season shows is how much the producers are learning and building a show," Fox CEO Charlie Collier said Wednesday at the Television Critics Association summer press tour. "There are so many changes that come with Season 2 — all the performers know what the show is, so they're raising their game. Literally, some are wearing heels, some are trying to throw the audience with their costumes. There is so much more to this show that to me makes it America's favorite guessing game. I think there is a ton of interest in it and we're excited about both cycles."
After the runaway success of Season 1, which debuted in January and was won by T-Pain aka Monster, Fox quickly renewed the series, which is based on the South Korean smash. Soon after, the network picked up a third season, set to premiere in the coveted post-Super Bowl time slot in February. It's very common for networks to double-down on reality hits once they become popular, scheduling them two installments in TV season, which could eventually lead to viewer fatigue. Collier doesn't think that will be an issue with "The Masked Singer," singling out the omnipresence of some other reality shows that also air multiple times a season. "Fox will air about 30 hours of 'The Masked Singer.' For the sake of comparison, by the end of this season, 'The Voice' and the 'Bachelor' franchise will each will have aired about 75 hours," he said.
Season 2 features such new costumes as Egg, Skeleton, Flamingo and Leopard. While he couldn't say much about the slate of masked celebrities, Collier praised the producers and casting directors for not only securing the talent but their meticulousness in keeping the stars' identities under wraps now that all eyes are on the show.
"The people who produce the show, who cast the show have to walk a fine line between — you don't want to have someone whose voice is recognized immediately and you want to have people who are from all walks of life. You want to keep the guessing game alive, so I don't know if it's a question of easier or harder [to cast this season]. I watch them thread the needle and they're playing at the highest level," he said. "The care with which the producers of the show handle it is just remarkable. They take every precaution to make sure that no one is spoiled. … At a time when this is the No. 1 new show on television and people [know] they have to get there urgently and live so as not to be spoiled, [that's why we] take all the precaution to keep secrecy and keep everyone guessing."
Season 2 of "The Masked Singer" premieres Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 8/7c on Fox.

I wonder why.....is Todrick hall the greatest Dancer?

Todrick Hall is joining 'The Greatest Dancer'.
The 'RuPaul's Drag Race' resident choreographer will take a seat alongside dance captains Cheryl, Oti Mabuse and Matthew Morrison on the upcoming second series of the BBC One show after producers decided to "tweak" the format when questions were raised about the availability of the former 'Glee' actor.
A source told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre TV column: "At one point it looked like Matthew's schedule might mean he wouldn't return then bosses decided they wanted to add a fourth captain.
"They were really impressed with Todrick and decided to tweak the format slightly."
Cheryl confirmed in June she'd be returning to the show, which sees performers compete for £50,000 and a chance to perform on 'Strictly Come Dancing'. She said at the time: "I don't think I'm allowed to say but I'm going to anyway - I'm going back to the dance show. I'm going to get told off for that, but it doesn't matter because it's just a fact. I love, love, loved the dance show."
As well as judging and coaching the competitors, the captains were also given the chance to showcase their dance skills as they performed a routine at the start of every show and then choreographed and took part in their contestant's number during the final.
Host Jordan Banjo said last month: "Cheryl brought so much to the show as a dancer and dance captain. She was wicked to work with and handled everything really well. Her performance with the Strictly pros was like a baptism of fire. Getting on stage with them at world-class level and holding her own, she smashed it."

Across....the pond is a revival of a game of speed and strategy.

Comedy Central UK's reboot of the game-show format Blockbusters is set to open this year's Edinburgh TV Festival, with Dara O'Briain on board to host.
Four teams from BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Sky will compete to cross from one side of the show's famous hexagonal board to the other by answering quiz questions correlating to a letter.
The original version of the show aired on ITV and was hosted by Bob Holness after being adapted from the NBC series hosted by Bill Cullen. Comedy Central's reincarnation recently aired and included two celebrity specials.
The session is produced by Phil Harris, creative director at Thames, and Chris Curley, head of development for Comedy Central.
As a festival and a charity, the Edinburgh Television Festival is committed to helping young people from all backgrounds gain access to the TV Industry. It runs two young talent schemes, Ones to Watch and The Network. Both schemes aim to ensure that the people working in television are as diverse as the audience watching it.
O'Briain said: "I'm delighted to be hosting this…even though Blockbusters is a quiz show featuring 16-year-olds and if a fully grown television executive can't answer them, then we are all in serious trouble. Or it explains everything."
CEO and Festival Director Lisa Campbell said: "Blockbusters is a legendary game show that I, and I know many in the industry, have hugely fond memories of, so it's been fantastic to see it return to our screens. With the channels up against one another, this is going to be a fun and nail-biting session, displaying some of our execs true competitive natures."

But there's more.

After over a decade away, Supermarket Sweep will be crashing back onto our screens for us to go wild in the aisles once more.
Former reality TV star turned national treasure Rylan Clark-Neal is now at the helm of the hour-long trolley dash, taking the reins from original host Dale Winton – who died in May 2018.
While the 30-year-old will be making his own mark on the classic game show, Clark-Neal is keen for Winton's memory to be honored in the new series with a special tribute somewhere in the supermarket set.
"We're definitely going to have a nod to Dale," Clark-Neal told RadioTimes.com ahead of the Supermarket Sweep relaunch. "That was one of the big things when I agreed to do the job was that I wanted to have a nod to Dale, somewhere in the supermarket which we've managed.
"That's all I'm going to say about it, but it was the one thing I really wanted."

For it's one....two....three strikes.......locked out!

Paradise Hotel cannot seem to keeps its doors open, having now been cancelled for a third time.
Fox's revival of the "dating" competition it first hosted in 2003 (and which got a second chance in 2008 on MyNetworkTV/Fox Reality Channel) again found sexy singles trying to remain in paradise for as long as possible by pairing up. In the modern, Kristin Cavallari-hosted reinvention of the series, viewers were given the opportunity to "play along at home," using social media to try and influence the action on the show.
With its 12 airings/burnoffs across seven nights in May and early June, Paradise Hotel averaged just 1.26 million total viewers and a 0.4 demo rating, placing fourth among broadcast networks each night, only besting The CW. Among all Fox "reality" fare, it only outperformed (faint praise alert!) What Just Happened??! With Fred Savage.
Fox reality chief Rob Wade told our sister site Deadline that Paradise Hotel "was designed to air over many, many hours, and we started it relatively short, [airing] three times a week…. [a]nd if we are going to get the opportunity to try a new show, we have to have the space. But … it was a great show and highly entertaining."

Don't take a timeout, we'll give you one after a Google Play music interlude as Lena Stone kicks off Acoustic August.

After earning a name for herself penning breakthrough songs for other up-and-coming country females (Kalie Shorr’s “Fight Like A Girl,” “He’s Just Not That Into You,” and Kasey Tyndall’s “Everything Is Texas”) Stone is making her artist debut. The Carlisle, Massachusetts native grew up singing and writing songs, influenced by artists from James Taylor to Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland and Taylor Swift.  At 18, Stone moved to Nashville to pursue a career in music and jumped into Music City’s songwriting community, spending several years as a staff writer at Song Factory Publishing.
Stone has been at the heart of the Song Suffragettes showcase and movement in Nashville since the very first show.  Song Suffragettes, the acclaimed Listening Room Café’s only regularly scheduled show, is a weekly songwriters’ night spotlighting the newest and brightest women in country music. Stone’s 4+ years as a co-anchor of the show have given her an opportunity that hundreds of Nashville songwriter’s crave: a chance to build a dedicated fan base while honing her songwriting and performing skills - and she did just that. As Billy Dukes of Taste Of Country said, Stone is “flat out easy to listen to,” a singer/songwriter whose melodies and personal storytelling make her “feel like a friend after just a few moment” (Fangirlish).
And here she is making her game Show Live! debut doing one of her original songs from the place she calls herself a safe haven for songwriters.
