 The whatstrending.com Opening Toss-Up story.

Disney and Fox found themselves wrapped up in another bidding war earlier this year, but this time around it involved vowels, consonants and answers posed in the form of questions.

CBS Television Distribution has renewed veteran game shows Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! through the 2022-2023 TV season on the ABC owned stations, extending both shows for three more seasons beyond their current deals, said Steve Hackett, president of sales for CTD.
"Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! are two of the longest-running shows on television – and for good reason," said Hackett in a statement. "They consistently deliver entertaining, timeless programming that the whole family can enjoy together, creating whole new generations of fans. We're excited they will continue to anchor stations' lineups, delivering eyeballs and ad dollars to our partners, for many years to come."
Last month, Sony Pictures Television, which produces the game shows, extended its talent contracts with Wheel of Fortune hosts Pat Sajak and Vanna White and Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek through the 2021-22 TV season.
Renewing the two shows on the ABC-owned stations, where the shows air in key access time slots on WABC New York, WPVI Philadelphia and KABC Los Angeles, ensures that both shows will continue for five more years. The 2022-23 season will mark Wheel of Fortune's 40th anniversary in syndication, and Jeopardy!'s 39th.

After this commercial word, He's from Nashville and he needed a Idol return. Any reason why?

As announced during tonight's telecast of ABC's "Dancing with the Stars," famed radio DJ, comedian and best-selling author Bobby Bones is set to join "American Idol" as the show's in-house mentor. Last season, Bobby joined the Top 24 Idol hopefuls as they prepared to take the stage with their all-star celebrity duet partners. In his expanded role this season, the award-winning personality will offer his industry expertise throughout the competition, helping contenders reach the next level of their artistry and performances.
Inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame as the youngest honoree ever, Bobby Bones has been dubbed "the most powerful man in country music" (Forbes). His nationally syndicated radio show "The Bobby Bones Show" reaches millions of listeners on nearly 140 stations and recently garnered its third ACM Award for National On-Air Personality of the Year, also earning a 2017 Country Music Association award for National Broadcast Personality of the Year. His popular podcast, "BobbyCast," recently surpassed 100 episodes and has been downloaded more than 6 million times. "American Idol" is returning to The ABC Television Network for the 2018-2019 season, after first making its return to airwaves as the No. 1 reality show launch for its inaugural season on the network during the 2017-2018 season. Helping to find the next singing sensation is music industry legends and all-star judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie. Emmy(R)-winning producer Ryan Seacrest will also return as host. The beloved singing competition series recently completed its open call bus tour auditions, visiting 24 cities across the country in a nationwide search for the next superstar. Judge auditions are currently underway in select cities across the country. .

Syfy done did it with Geeks Who Drink, but this came in from somewhere across.......The Pond.

TV Channel Quest has commissioned its first comedy entertainment program, Al Murray's Great British Pub Quiz, which pits the UK's most passionate pub quiz teams against each other.
In each episode, Al is joined by two existing pub quiz teams, each joined by a special celebrity guest, to battle it out to win the "golden tankard" and a cash prize.
The series will be filmed with a live audience in a studio designed with all the characteristics of a working pub, including a resident barman (and know-it-all) keeping score – actor Shaun Williamson (Celebrity Mastermind winner, three-time Celebrity Pointless winner, Celebrity Eggheads winner and The Chase winner) – not to mention a very lively pub pianist.
The quiz includes classic pub quiz style questions on a range of topics, with picture rounds, mystery objects and brain teasers.
"Al Murray's Great British Pub Quiz marks Quest's first move into comedy entertainment formats as we seek to broaden the channel's appeal. With Al's legendary comedic talent, this is a fresh take on a game show that apes traditional pub quizzes and has great potential to excite Quest fans and engage new audiences," said Simon Downing, SVP, Head of Quest and Eurosport UK. "It comes on the back of an exciting year for Quest where ratings have reached record highs and we've diversified our schedule with the EFL Highlights."
Jamie Isaacs, Executive Producer for Avalon, said: "Quest is really hitting its stride. It's great to be working with Al Murray and the team at Quest on this entertaining new show at such an exciting time in the channel's evolution." Al Murray added: "It's very exciting to be putting the Quest into Question with the Great British Pub Quiz. You're going to see some of the finest quizzing minds in the country duking it out as well as the most knowledgeable barman on the planet, Shaun Williamson, do his quizzing thing."
Simon Downing ordered the show and Victoria Noble is the Commissioning Editor. Jeremy Phillips is the Executive Producer for Discovery and Jamie Isaacs is Executive Producer for Avalon.

Tim Tebow, former college football champion and NFL quarterback, will serve as host of MILLION DOLLAR MILE, a new 10-episode high-stakes physical competition series on the CBS Television Network. Matt "Money" Smith, the voice of the L.A. Chargers play-by-play, and Maria Taylor, ESPN host and reporter, will serve as commentators.
The series comes from executive producers Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan with Fly on the Wall Entertainment and LeBron James and Maverick Carter with SpringHill Entertainment, as well as Warner Horizon Unscripted & Alternative Television.
"Watching good people compete at their highest ability is always inspirational to me," said Tebow. "MILLION DOLLAR MILE is a show that does just that - it motivates, thrills, and is aspirational, and I'm excited to be hosting this show."
In this unprecedented television event series, contestants will have the chance to win $1,000,000 every time they run the Million Dollar Mile. Standing in their way is the most challenging course ever designed and a group of elite athletes with one mission: to stop the contestants from winning the money at all costs. Currently, the series is in production in Los Angeles for broadcast on the CBS Television Network.

The real live online quiz truth in real live online quiz news, suckers!

The X Factor and Got Talent producer Thames is set to remake Facebook Watch's interactive game-show Confetti in the UK as the social media platform adapts the show in five markets around the world.
Fremantle has struck a deal with Facebook for a UK adaptation and local versions produced in India, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam. It is the first Facebook Watch origination to be remade outside of the U.S. Deadline reports that the UK version will launch later this month, while the other four versions are all set to go live by the end of the year.
Confetti, which is regularly hosted by YouTube personality J.D. Witherspoon, is a HQ Trivia-style live interactive format that sees viewers compete in a traditional daily trivia quiz show with cash prizes. It streams live on weekdays. Confetti launched in July 2018 in the U.S. and recently expanded into Canada and Mexico.
In the U.S., Mexico and Canada, the series is produced by Thumb Candy Media, which makes short-form series including Fright Club and Nail the Look for Snapchat and Make Up or Break Up for Facebook Watch. It is the digital studio division of B-17 Entertainment, the producers of MTV's Broke A$$ Gameshow run by Rhett Bachner and Brien Meagher, who exec produce.
Matthew Henick, Head of Content Strategy & Planning, Facebook, said, "Confetti has shown us the power of combining traditional entertainment formats with the social, people-centric advantages of video on Facebook. People who played with their friends were significantly more likely to tune in to the next episode and play again versus people who played alone. It made perfect sense to partner with Fremantle, a leader in the game show space, to bring Confetti to audiences around the world. We are also incredibly excited to take all of the tools that we developed for Confetti and give them to our global partners to create their own community-driven reinventions of the game show."
Rob Clark, Director, Global Entertainment, Fremantle added: "We're excited to combine our market-leading expertise as entertainment producers with Facebook's global community to evolve the game show for new audiences around the world. Our family of producers give us the reach and ability to customize the show for local audiences.".

Another HQ Trivia-like app is in the game.
Ripkord.tv on Tuesday launched an interactive entertainment app that integrates mobile gaming, social media and live streaming.
The company rolled out five live game shows that let viewers participate, including games similar to a trivia bowl and a scavenger hunt.
Similar to HQ Trivia, Ripkord is offering money to viewers who compete and win.
"Our belief is that thousands to millions of people playing together can create unique entertainment experiences that have never been done before," Todd Peterson, founder and CEO of Ripkord.tv, said in a statement. "To put it simply we are 'Twitch meets Game Show Network.'"
Peterson and CTO Neil Harris founded Ripkord.tv in 2018. The pair also created the daily fantasy esports platform AlphaDraft that FanDuel acquired in 2015. Peterson and Harris are both vets of the esports industry.
The Ripkord.tv app is available free in the Apple App Store for devices running iOS 10.0 or later, and in Google Play for Android devices running version 4.4 and up. Its five games are Raise the Bar, In or Out, Word Up, Fast Facts and The Hunt.

With Cash Show sinking itself in quicksand and nowhere to get out, they decided to have this instead.....

It's a behind the scenes look at the Cash Show....and yes, Raf will be there too.

Out of Tune has decided to do another Unplugged game, and this time, Disney is the subject of the app's game. As if that wasn't enough, $1000 will be up for grabs. Sweet!

Speaking of big money, HQ is giving away $50,000 to the people who are wizards of Harry Potter, and also.....a private screening of the newest Harry Potter movie. Acio, Game Show Live!

Now.

What's wrong with the new color adaptations of 2 B&W classics? Well, for To Tell The Truth, they slashed out the fee plugs. They were the most important part of any classic game show. Perhaps, it was Best Western hotel. i heard it was still around. Had to google it, but on the color version of What's My Line? , they cut out the introductions of the panel. That's rude.  Look at the B&W version. They did it. A classic in its own time. If you look at what GSN did prior to it, they actually did the intros perfectly. Now look at Buzzr, are they thinking they should already know who they are? On the bright side, they're both side, but Buzzr needs to act like they're watching what GSN did in the past and that's fine by them.
