 The whatstrending.com Opening Toss-Up story.

It's official. 2017 is the year of the rookie.

The 2017 Emmy Awards will go down as the year of the newcomer, though the oldest show of all, “SNL,” tied freshman “Westworld” to lead the way with 22 nods apiece.
Newbies dominated many of the categories, with either limited series or debuts taking in the bulk of nominations. “This is Us,” “Stranger Things,” “Westworld,” “The Crown” and “Handmaid’s Tale” are all first-season shows and make up the bulk of the best drama category.

“FEUD: Bette and Joan,” the first installment in the Ryan Murphy FX anthology, garnered six acting nominations in addition to its 12 others, including Outstanding Limited Series.

Comedy was mostly dominated by old standards, such as “Saturday Night Live,” which had a successful year thanks to viral political sketches and standout performances from the cast and guest stars like Alec Baldwin and Melissa McCarthy.

Even without any “Game of Thrones” episodes making the qualifying period, HBO’s 111 nominations made the premium-TV network number one over Netflix’s 91. Last year, HBO had 94 and Netflix had only 54.

In terms of broadcast, NBC led the pack with 60 nominations.

Here are your nominees:

Outstanding Reality-Competition Program
- The Amazing Race (CBS)
- American Ninja Warrior (NBC)
- Project Runway (Lifetime)
- RuPaul’s Drag Race (VH1)
- Top Chef (Bravo)
- The Voice (NBC)

Outstanding Reality Host
- Alec Baldwin – Match Game (C-Note: Baldwin is also up for Outstanding Supporting Actor, Comedy for "SNL")
- W. Kamau Bell – United Shades Of America With W. Kamau Bell
- RuPaul Charles – RuPaul’s Drag Race
- Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn – Project Runway
- Gordon Ramsay – MasterChef Junior
- Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg – Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party

Good luck and don't let someone cash in the briefcase at any point.

After this Cult-Astic timeout, the Million pound drop goes on a diet. I mean that.  That's on the way, but first....
Get Wet & Wild with this little selection.

Welcome back to Game Show Live! Before we continue, I wanna give a shoutout to Roman Atwood and Brittney Smith for having a baby. That's awesome.

It looks like the Million Dollar Pound Drop got slimmer. On what, a gluten free diet?

Channel 4 has announced a new series of Million Pound Drop but under a new name – The £100K Drop.
Today (July 14), Remarkable Television, part of Endemol Shine Group, revealed that Channel 4 Daytime has commissioned a bumper 60 episodes of the new less-money game show.

The £100K Drop, which will air in an afternoon slot, sees host Davina McCall back at the helm as a raft of brave new contestants take on the dastardly Drop and attempt to win a jackpot of £100,000.

Davina said: "I literally love hosting this show and couldn't be more thrilled that we are back and coming to daytime!

"£100,000 is a properly life-changing amount of cash and I'm crossing my fingers for some big-money wins. I can't wait to see you all every weekday afternoon."

And Channel 4's Commissioning Editor Syeda Irtizaali added: "I'm delighted this award-winning, brilliant game show with its heart pounding tension and addictive gameplay will be returning daily to Channel 4 for a new audience to enjoy.

"I am really excited Davina is back at the helm and can't wait to hear her utter those famous catchphrases 'move your money' and 'let's see what's about to drop' once again."

Million Pound Drop The £100K Drop sees players attempting to answer seven questions, while placing real cash on what they believe to be the correct answer. Any cash placed on the wrong answer will see it fall through to the floor and out of the game.

The format made its international debut on Channel 4 in the UK in May 2010. Since then, it has become a runaway hit, selling to an impressive 54 territories including the USA, Germany, Russia, Australia and Mongolia.
The £100K Drop will air on Channel 4 in 2018.

Remember "Cram" on GSN?...................no................well, Australia’s Network Ten has become the first broadcaster to commission a weekly gameshow based on a new UK format.

ITV Studios Australia will produce Cram, which will see two teams of three comedians and celebrities test their memories across general knowledge and current affairs.

Each category will be introduced with a “cram,” a brief video on any subject from dogs to Leonardo da Vinci and jeans to Justin Bieber. The team that recalls the most facts in each video wins.

The format was created by ITV’s UK prodco Possessed, which has produced a pilot that has been pitched to UK broadcasters.

The Oz show will be hosted by comedian Peter Helliar, a regular on Network Ten’s nightly talkshow The Project. The teams will be captained by comedian Dilruk Jayasinha and actor/singer Virginia Gay.

Ten head of comedy Paul Leadon said: “The real joy of Cram is you can’t help but play along at home. It’s simple; all the facts are given to you, you just have to remember them. But with host Pete Helliar doing his best to make you laugh, remembering the facts can get a little tricky.”

ITV Studios Australia MD David Mott added: “This unique ITV Studios format is simply drop-dead funny. We’re witnessing a comedy resurgence in Australia and we’re confident that Cram will resonate with audiences of all ages.”

Over in Spain, it's what the cops say when you're speeding too fast.

Channel 3 in Thailand has commissioned a local version of Pull Over, comprising 26 episodes that will be produced by Createit Studio.
In the show, launched by Armoza at MipTV in 2014, drivers of worn-out cars are stopped and, rather than being handed the expected ticket, are given the chance to win a new vehicle by answering a series of questions.
Other broadcasters to have acquired the format, which was developed by Shy Barmeli (Raid the Cage) and Ori Dror, include La Radio y Televisión de Andalucía in Spain.

You know Samantha Harris from DWTS, but she's dancing with....forks and spoons.

Fox said Monday that Harris will host "Culinary Genius," a half-hour show produced by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay.
Harris is a former co-host of "Dancing with the Stars" and "Entertainment Tonight."

"Culinary Genius" will air for three weeks on Fox owned- and operated-stations in certain TV markets. One is Los Angeles, with others to be announced.

It's getting a summer tryout with viewers, following the pattern of Fox programs such as "The Wendy Williams Show" and "TMZ Live."

"Culinary Genius," adapted from an English show of the same name, opens with lead chef Edward Lee giving contestants a cooking demonstration. Then the competition begins.
Ramsay will appear on "Culinary Genius," which debuts Aug. 7.

And all I can say is.....

Moving on.
Did you figure it out? The answer, er, question was.....

What is a bison/buffalo?

Wouldn't it be nice to have someone from the Buffalo Sabres hang with M. Bison from Street Fighter?

Family Feud & GSN. They go together like......Cops & donuts or something, but in an attempt to get GSN to crack the top 20, what did they do to make it special. Let's investigate.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRl88VATFrs

Last month right around the week of father's Day, they did Epic Fails week.

The next week, they did Shocked & Ha. I'm not lying.

The week after 4th of July, all nursing homes had to be tuned to GSN for this.....

Then this week came this.....

What will next week bring on the Feud? We'll never know. I'm guessing Louie Anderson week of Richard Karn week. But for now: CASE CLOSED.

That's it for this week. Today's consolation prize is free admission to the 14th Factory gallery.....or what's left of it, anyway........
