Steampunk Idiots on Autopilot

(This past Tuesday was free Red Tavern Burger day...and you should've got it from Red Robin, where you can get it next week....if you purchase something. Watch your emails for it.)

VO: This is GSN The Know. The most informed and entertained blog in the United States of America. Now, from the WIlton-North building, here is the man about games, Pierre Kelly.

Me: Time to turn up the intensity and kill the lights and have a GSN party up you know where today. They play Idiotest with some Pyramids, and that's what the network does everyday. We're gonna party like teens at a rave party and let's start with....

The Starting Line.

It seemed Steampunk'd wanted to be like Skin Wars but then again........

Last week, Steampunk'd scored 173,000 total viewers/64,000 18-49 viewers. Steampunk'd is down 45% in total viewers/down 57% in 18-49 viewers from last week. Steampunk'd also dropped 2% in total viewers/down 10% in 18-49 viewers from its lead in, a rerun of last week's Steampunk'd. Last night's Steampunk'd marks the lowest rated GSN new run of an original in primetime since several episodes of Lie Detectors in May of this year. The lowest rated new run of It Takes a Church was 181,000 total viewers.

So it looks like Steampunk'd is the new Family Trade this year. IT seemed that they would rather watch bodypainting than see ten people build something out of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. As far as Idiotest went....

At 10pm, Idiotest scored 245,000 total viewers/36,000 18-49 viewers, down 19% in total viewers/down 71% in 18-49 viewers from last week. At 10:30pm, Idiotest scored 298,000 total viewers/61,000 18-49 viewers, down 5% in total viewers/down 50% in 18-49 viewers from last week.

The 10pm Idiotest rose 42% in total viewers/dropped 44% in 18-49 viewers from lead-in Steampunk'd. The 10:30pm Idiotest rose 22% in total viewers/rose 69% in 18-49 viewers from the first run of Idiotest.
Should Idiotest call a white flag and declare a cancellation, then it'll all be over. After all, MVF was to blame for its downfall, but recovery may be possible come this week.

Time to break out. After this time out, why Buzzr: Lost & Found was compared to specials GSN did back then. See why they got in where they fit in after the break.

(song fades out)

(Quick fade out)

And so the GSN party keeps on keeping on. As many of you know, Steampunk'd took a big ratings hit upside the head, but a poem made me feel all chilly inside, and here it is....

Hey, I just met you...
And this is crazy....
So here's my bubble wrap suit...
Comment it, maybe?

One guy named Scott said this:

"We knew the crash was coming, but it's good to see that Idiotest rose drastically from Steampunk'd, indicating that viewers started tuning back to the channel after Steampunk'd ended. If this repeats again next week, then we'll know 100% that Steampunk'd is finished. Aside from Skin Wars, Amy should stick to producing the "contemporary shiny floor" shows."

Yep, and if Idiotest rises again, a 3rd season may be possible. What about Adam Lentz?

"The only way I see Idiotest getting a third season is
A. Steampunkd bombs (which it is doing now)
B. Hellevator bombs (which it might not, seeing how you have big horror names in there)
C. The 18-49s, sure the viewer numbers aren't great, but as long as those demo numbers keep doing well, it might get renewed. I think that is how the second season came for Idiotest was because of great demo numbers.

I don't know, Steampunkd is definitely a goner. If it drops again, then it is sealed for cancellation. Idiotest, it's 50/50. We'll see how it goes. GSN needs to redo their Wednesday lineup and soon."

And if Steampunk'd is a goner, I don't know who will replace it. Scott Rahner comments:

Steampunk'd is definitely a goner. No show that GSN has moved around in timeslots has ever been renewed. Beat the Chefs, Lie Detectors, BOTR, Mind of a Man, etc.

"If Hellevator does bomb like Steampunk'd is now, you bet big money that The Chase, Chain Reaction and Idiotest are all back. But say if Steampunk'd was doing better than Skin Wars (and therefore GSN's new #1 show) and Hellevator premieres to 1 million total viewers/400K 18-49 (or something huge like TABC), then you would assume that Idiotest is definitely gone, Chain Reaction would be gone (unless that has a perk in viewers) and The Chase would definitely be uncertain.

With Steampunk'd bombing, more of the "traditional", older skewing shows should be much safer for renewal."

I'm guessing it may, no question about that. Casey Abell chimes in with....

Steampunk'd looked set for an easy renewal with great 18-49 numbers by GSN standards. The network even praised the show by name in the press release about the summer ratings. But these latest numbers are the kiss of death.

"Since Idiotest actually picked up the pieces a little after a disastrous lead-in, I wouldn't necessarily say it's doomed. In fact, the network might like it even more if Ben keeps improving on a horrible lead-in.

I was doubtful about Steampunk'd when it was first announced, because it didn't have any naked girls (only half kidding). But when the initial 18-49 numbers rolled in so spectacularly, I figured it had to get renewed. But it's dead on these latest ratings."

If that's dead this week, then it'll all be in the tank by then.

Sticking with Steampunk'd, here's the latest....

The remaining 8 took it to the bedroom,
where only 1 will seal their doom,
Carter OsterHuis joined the fam,
to see the pings and kablam,
and Only one will be a winner soon.

The Blue Team made a good lineup,
while the red team stayed finer,
From making their beds,
to painting it orange and red,
and one winner called when it was time...ah.

Tayliss was the woman at the top,
Karianne was the 2nd when the event was stopped,
But with Ms. Morgan,
she was safe once again,
James' time turned out to be a flop.

(song stops)

Kinda like a belly flop in the pool, but you get the idea. Anyways, on to....

For the rest of September....

*The Newlywed Game will air Tuesday latenights at 1am and 1:30am; replacing Family Feud.
*Steampunk'd airs new Wednesday at 8pm (same as Wednesday 9/9)
*Steve Harvey Family Feud will air Wednesday at 9pm and 9:30pm (same as Wednesday 9/9)
*New runs of Idiotest will air Wednesday at 10pm and 10:30pm (same as always, still without Man Versus Fly)
*A Steampunk'd same night rerun will air at 11pm and a same night rerun of Idiotest will air at 1am and 1:30am (same as 9/9)
*Steve Harvey Family Feud will air at 12am and 12:30am on Wednesdays. This used to be occupied by Steampunk'd on and before 9/2 and will be occupied by Chain Reaction on Wednesday 9/9.

Steampunk'd will face the consequences of low ratings by pushing it back an hour to give Idiotest some breathing room. Harvey Feud will fill the blank they gave in their original time slot. Also......

*Deal or No Deal (the hour-long NBC version) returns to 4pm on all weekdays; replacing Dog Eat Dog.
*There is no longer a Steampunk'd rerun on Wednesday at 4pm and going forward (for now, at least).
*In Wednesday primetime, the premiere episode of Steampunk'd will air (from 8/19) at 8pm; replacing the new run
*In Wednesday primetime, an rerun of Idiotest from November 4, 2014 (one being Democrats versus Republicans) will air at 10pm and 10:30pm; replacing the new runs.
*The Steampunk'd rerun from Wednesday 8pm will rerun Wednesday 11pm.
*The Idiotest rerun from Wednesday 10pm will rerun Wednesday latenight at 1am.

DOND may have ran out on their expiration date on the GSN contract, but DED decided that fans didn't want it, so the NBC version will replace it, and Idiotest may take a rerun break to regroup.

So far this week, Buzzr created a week devoted to rarities. It's called "Buzzr: Lost & Found," and next week, my thoughts as well as Dr. Buzzr's thoughts on the event, but the week-long event is somewhat compared to one-night specials. A decade or so ago, GSN did their "Turkeys" promotion that had 3 being Bob Stewart pilots (10K Sweep, Riddlers, Monday Night Quarterback) and 1 being Chuck Barris. (Dollar a Second) Another pilot special I remember was "Raise The Dead" which featured....yes....Elvira, mistress of the Dark. It also had Cop-Out as a Chuck Barris special. Oh and add in Says Who? And Second Guessers along with "Get Rich Quick!," to be Bob Stewart ones. The latter BTW, was where Chain Reaction's bonus game in 1980 first started it. So to Buzzr, I say praise be to you for its Lost & Found event, because helping a 3-month old network helps out a lot.
