Welcome to GSN The Know. Wonder why the Video Arcade Lounge is decorated today? Private party? No? Football season? Close, but not quite. Birthday party? Nope. It's the premiere party of The American Bible Challenge and Beat The Chefs. We'll get to them in the 2nd quarter, but we got 4 quarters to shoot for and Hilty is here to give you the skinny on ratings.
Family Feud took the first 3 spots, but Fifth Grader snuck in at the 4th spot, but Feud continued to dominate the list from 5-16. Now the old dumpster.....
Feud and Jeopardy tied for 237th and then it became a moldy sandwich along with Dog Eat Dog along with the Password twins and Feud taking the last spots. First quarter done! Hilty must go!
Now we say goodbye to 3 legends as we start the 2nd quarter.

First, Ron Palillio. One of the sweat hogs on "Welcome Back, Kotter." he appeared on a week of shows like Match Game. Second....

William Windom, an actor who on an episode of Super Password cheated. I'm not playing. But the biggest death this week was Phyllis Diller. She was a virtually insane game show nut. Her comedy timing landed her as an easy target on game shows and GSN knew where it was from the start. Any person with a knack for classics can remember her like the 2006 version of "I've Got A Secret," "Tattletales," "The Gong Show," and perhaps many more. She was 95 at the time of death. May they all rest in peace.

On a more lighter note, time for....

Whale Mail. And we have a piece of it. Princess writes.....
"Small bits of content which are explained in details, helps me understand the topic, thank you!"
Well princess, we make the stories go in short order, so that we could be on time, or late like a celebrity, but at any rate, we make a blog look like twitter on steroids.
And if you want to comment, comment below the blog post about what I learned. But for now, bye Whaley.

Now out of the water and into those 2 shows coming this week on GSN. We do that as we go......
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51tpgGxvEgw
Under the Sink.
First, The American Bible Challenge. Here is a preview of what's to come......
http://www.theblaze.com/stories/an-exclusive-behind-the-scenes-look-at-comedian-jeff-foxworthys-bible-based-game-show/#ooid=tjam5uNToRnH_lRtyDKxsxGb1-ZU0Kmp
So you've seen it, but it'll be paired with Beat The Chefs, where we get this story.....
http://blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/bella/2012/08/beau-macmillan-new-tv-show-beat-the-chefs.php
One of the chefs is featured on there. How well will both shows fare? Hit or flop? This Thursday, it'll be a premiere event everybody's been waiting for. Now on to more newsly matters.....
http://thegrio.com/2012/08/13/steve-harvey-vs-katie-couric-unlikely-duo-face-off-in-daytime-tv-competition/
We know Steve Harvey made the feud a GSN powerhouse, but he's got some stiff competition against Katie Couric. Good luck with that.
Another change is that Flashback Fridays is no more, thank god. It became the lowest of the week, and watching Pyramid reruns on Friday is probe to people getting crowded at restaurants giving the servers a field day night in and night out. So MITW will kick off and close the night along with the newest Pyramid to come out as well as spots where Clark's version was on church day. Now it's time for.....
Would GSN give you this?
http://www.realitywanted.com/call/20097-casting-contestants-for-hypnosis-game-show-pilot#.UDPB5rd5mc1
There is a hypnosis game show casting people. I'm not lying. If GSN sold this, we would call it....Sleeping Through the Classics. Funny, but it's not a joke. And one more story....
http://m.pressofatlanticcity.com/mobile/communities/atlantic-city_pleasantville_brigantine/deal-or-no-deal-game-makes-atlantic-city-debut-at/article_25bff73e-e67a-11e1-bcc7-001a4bcf887a.html
DOND may be gone, but Atlantic Coty awaits them....as a slot machine. It'll end the first half and segue into halftime. We continue August Acapella awareness month with an all-girl group called Ginger and Tonic. They're Aussies with a sense of singing, and this song will put you in the mood. Watch:
And it's the second half. In 1994, it was Game Show Network. 10 years later, GSN. 2012, it's both. What is going on here? We let the posters clear this mess starting with:
"I think they put the "Game Show Network" below it, because if the commercial airs on another station... people will see what GSN stands for if they didn't even know. Some (or a lot) of people have GSN and don't even watch it or even know that they have it. Also, a lot of people still refer to the station as Game Show Network."
I think cable does commercials for shows airing for another network on one network in order to promote their products. Next one....
"Not even close. "Game Show Network" is neither long nor boring; it's fairly medium-sized, to-the-point, and lets the viewer know up front what the network is about (a network for game shows, decidedly not "The Network for Games"). Plus, keep in mind that TBS and ABC were always known as TBS and ABC; the acronym has been a part of the public eye ever since those networks were first created. GSN was known as "Game Show Network" for ten years before they changed their name, and the acronym didn't start really showing up until around 2003."
Right, and some commercials used GSN in their voice overs. Here's another:
"The "Game Show Network" title would only be seen on GSN's website and their TV station, otherwise I think it would still be shortened everywhere else to GSN.
This station, no matter what you call it isnt going to go back to the way it was before 2003. Modern is good and it's not going away."
I think the classics have been poorly since Kelly Goode took over and been doing that ever since. Next comment....
"GSN should only be displaying the words "Game Show Network" under their logo, when they're advertising an actual game show. Beat the Chefs is more of a reality cooking competition show, than a game show. It's like Chopped or Sweet Genius. So it makes sense that the marketing team would leave the full network name out of promos for this type of program, and simply use it for promos of programs that are game shows.
In other words, they seem to have at least learned their lesson from what they did earlier this year - when they tried advertising that Dancing with the Stars was a "...great game show...", and thus getting everyone infuriated, because it wasn't a game show."
Amen. And our next comment is.....
"In all of their PRESS RELEASES, it all reads: GSN (formerly Game Show Network)"
So that's what we were looking for. But Melyssa bats cleanup for the quarter, so miss, take it home.
Of course. Time for the fourth quarter, and I got a dictionary for it, do pay close attention....
Modus Operandi is defined as this.....
Modus operandi (plural modi operandi) is a Latin phrase, approximately translated as "method of destruction".[1] The term is used to describe someone's habits or manner of working, their method of operating or functioning. In English, it is often shortened to M.O.
If GSN looked it up in the dictionary, it would be easy pickings for the network. Their status quo is to place Feud on more than 80 slots a week, chunk up 200 episodes of Password and Super Password and repeat until god knows when to stop and add any modern acquisition to give it a hit. That drives fans nuts. In the early days, GSN played every classic. Straight up. Evenly so, the originals would perform well, but nowadays the originals are a decade old and act like a rerun and fans clamoring about a new lease on classic life. And it's all because of Modus Operandi and it just makes them sick and have no choice but to change the channel. Once that finally stops, then we'll be back to the GSN of old.

Put another blog in the trunk. Show's over. And a happy 40th goes out to my Starbucks friend, PTF member and server Josie Epperson. Hi, Jo! Now to do plugging....
Remember to get into our FB group page and tell us about it. Tweet me @ Johnny_Arcade, friend me as Pierre Jason Kelly or email me at coppockonsports@yahoo.com and when I'm on the GSN forums, I'm Gameheadz. See you guys later and play on, playas.
