(Theme fades out to moments of DWTS)

Dancing With The Stars. A reality program since 2005, ABC gave you the best in ballroom dancing. One day, GSN under the tutelage of Amy Introcaso-Davis, asked BBC Worldwide America to pick up the show......and they said yes. That gave GSN fans a chance to cry, get angry and rant about why GSN may be gone from your cable system soon. But we at GSN The Know will tell you all about it, and that's what where here for.

(music fades otu)

I'm Pierre Kelly, we got a great staff, a great atmosphere....

(alicia brings in basket of Star Crunch)

Oh, and Alicia's here. She's got a basketfull of Star Crunch for me in honor of today's blog.

(alicia leaves)

As you know, we're in the Video Arcade Lounge, right across from a strip mall in the middle of nowhere on an outstretched highway in the USA, and boy we got a show for you, let's begin. Malconent is not here today, so let's do our poll...on a pole.

(pole lowers)

Your question: Did you watch the first night of DWTS on GSN. According to those rats out there at gsn.com/forums, the results go like this.....

10% said they only watched at 1 show or another, but switched to Cops or SNL when they got tired, 6% say they went through the whole thing and get this....84% say they would rather stick to either Angry Birds or the Lawrence Welk Show. Can't believe why they turned away those reruns, but we'll see how long it'll stick around as time goes on. That's Poll on a Pole. Pole, come back to your home.

First quarter done, 2nd quarter begins and
We're coming to you with sone newswire-y stuff. First, If you got U-verse and GSN, good news for you...

http://corp.gsn.com/press/releases/gsn-game-show-network-signs-extension-affiliation-agreement-with-att-u-verse
They have extended their long term agreement with AT&T and the network. However, on the bad side...comes this.

http://www.deadline.com/2012/01/restructuring-at-gsn-leads-to-layoffs/

According to Deadline, GSN will lay off....5%. Really. 5 percent who work at GSN get laid off? For what? programs that do not make sense? Oh, I get it, the puppets and Drew Carey and Love Trapezoid....you know what done did it the last few years.

And just when you think "Baggage" is on life support, think again....
The NATPE and Sony are in talks of bring Baggage to syndication, but that's not their first foray into the markets, because....it test marketed in a few cities last year, but was unsucessful in doing so. And for any schedule change-ups, Chrd Sharks 1986 will be back along with the Engvall version of Lingo replacing 30-minute DOND. Can't wait for that. When I come back, I'll have reaction on DWTS on GSN. Did they like it? Did they hate it? We'll see, but first we dance to this halftime video.....

Now that you got tired of dancing, let's talk some DWTS from you the fans. First....

"I greatly enjoy DWTS; it's one of the VERY few reality shows I like. Even though I know exactly who's going to take home the trophy, I still had fun seeing the dances again."

Ok, that's positive, where's the negative?

"I can't see this show having bad ratings for the first few episodes. What's really going to suffer is the constant repeats. And that might pull down the ratings for the 1st run repeats in the future.

Air the same episode more than once, you're just dividing your potential viewers. The same viewer is highly unlikely to watch the same episode again, especially the same episode on the same day or the next day."

Yes, and remember that Rerun Abuse take I talked to you about. When Malcontent spits out the ratings report, we'll know if it's a surefire hit or not. Next....

"I watched it because this season was on around the time my dad passed away and I missed most of this season. I love watching Julianne and Opolo dance. It was good seeing the pros again. Other than that I fast forwarded through most of the dances. It was 5 hours long and I gather that every Sat they will be doing one week worth of the shows in one night."

See, that's playing catch-up. On the other hand....

"Yeah well it's overkill. We get it. The majority of posters here don't like DWTS. But as you have stated yourself elsewhere there was a lot of different ads on the show. That's because it draws a different audience coveted by sponsors and who spends money. Sorry folks, unless this show does SUBSTANTIALLY LESS viewership than anything else it's staying for that reason alone. Please don't jump if the ratings come out and bare this out."

"If GSN didn't waste money on Dancing with the Stars...

We would have gotten new season of Lingo, new episodes of Baggage and The Newlywed Game would have continued airing, and by now they'd both be getting renewed for new seasons, and of course some of that money could go to leases for classics.'

I agree with that. Whoever should've put them on hiatus got us protested for new ones to come. here's one...

"you know what i think that the DWTS reruns should have been on OVATION i mean they have reruns of So You Think You Can Dance? so why not pair that show along with Dancing With The Stars and call it the oogie boogie hour huh? IT'S A WIN-WIN SITUATION in my book that is. "

yes for Ovation, no for GSN. It'll never work for both. How about one more?

"They're are lots of DWTS fans around that happen to like Dancing With The Stars, much better than Lingo (either with the older host or Bill), so stop and consider their feelings, as others consider yours (NOT singular, but figuratively). And as everyone knows, you have two options here....turn the show over to a different channel or turn your TV off. Thank you."  DWTS fans, i'd say neither, but we'll see. Now it's my turn...

This past week marked the GSN debut of Dancing With The Stars. But that's not the first time DWTS came to cable, because once upon a time, BBC America owned the very first 3 chapters to the saga. It was gone in a month. Why? Because they would rather watch this....

That's what they would watch instead of it. But GSN wants to do it again, this time from chapters 4-13 and 1 more from this year on ABC. How long will it last on the schedule sheet? I don't know. So don't ask. But if you have stopped watching and want to see what you missed or relieve every dance that is memorable, then DWTS is the show on GSN in which z-listers act silly in a ballroom all for you.
And with that, we end this dance. Thank you so much for making GSN The Know, your weekly GSN news and information party. Before you throw another bash, here's what you do....
