Nickelodeon is preparing tricks and treats with its hidden camera prank show The Substitute, this time with John Cena going undercover at the Boys & Girls Club of the Foothills in Monrovia, CA. The debut episode airs on Friday, Oct. 4, at 7:00 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon.
Using a full costume and prosthetics to hide his identity, Cena is transformed into three completely unrecognizable camp counselors, pranking campers as a quirky environmentalist, a fearful fire safety expert and a CPR instructor with an unusual best friend.
The series features stars who are transformed by a team of Hollywood special effects artists to go undercover as professionals in various fields, surprising unsuspecting kids in schools, camps and other locations. During the reveal at the end of the day, each organization receives a $25,000 donation.
Following the premiere of The Substitute, a new episode of the hit family game show Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader will air at 7:30 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon, hosted and executive produced by Cena.
The premiere of The Substitute follows the strong performance of two specials that aired earlier this year, and has been picked up for a full 10-episode order. The Substitute's first special debuted in April with guest star Jace Norman (Henry Danger), and the second special premiered in May, guest starring multitalented comedian Lilly Singh.
The Substitute is produced by Industrial Media's The Intellectual Property Corporation. Eli Holzman, Aaron Saidman and Todd Hurvitz (Punk'd), serve as executive producers, with Hurvitz also serving as the showrunner. Jessica Brown, Nickelodeon's Vice President of Current Series, also serves as an executive producer. Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader is executive produced by Mark Burnett, Chairman of Worldwide Television, MGM (Survivor, The Voice) and Barry Poznick, President, Unscripted Television, MGM (Beat Shazam, The World's Best). Production of The Substitute and Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader for Nickelodeon is overseen by Rob Bagshaw, Executive Vice President, Unscripted Content.

2 Dancers, 1 stage
The NFL just added a whole lotta girl power to its biggest event of the year. Hustlers star and singer Jennifer Lopez, along with recording artist Shakira, will headline the Super Bowl LIV halftime show, the league announced on Thursday.
Recent halftime show performers include Coldplay (ft. Beyoncé and Bruno Mars), Katy Perry (ft. Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliott), Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake and, this year, Maroon 5 (ft. Travis Scott and Big Boi). TVLine readers gave Maroon 5’s performance an average grade of… “D+.”
Nick Cannon is the latest celebrity to join the daytime talk show gang. The “Masked Singer” emcee has closed a deal with Lionsgate’s Debmar-Mercury to host a new, nationally syndicated daytime talk show, which is set to debut in 2020. His production company, Ncredible Entertainment, will co-produce the series.
Currently hosting Fox’s smash-hit celebrity singing competition “The Masked Singer,” Cannon previously hosted NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” for eight seasons and MTV sketch series “Wild ‘N Out,” a show he created, for 13 seasons.
As far as the hit Fox competition show is concerned.....
“The Masked Singer” returns to Fox with a supersized two-hour Season 2 premiere tonight. And though fans haven’t even watched the first episode of the celebrity singing competition’s second season — ’cause we’re not counting that sneak-peek special — the team behind the show is already looking ahead to the future, seeing as the smash-hit show was renewed for a third season back in May.
“We’re starting to prep for Season 3,” executive producer Craig Plestis, who developed the South Korean game show into its U.S. format for Fox, told TheWrap. “And you know, it’s a lot of learning what we did on Season 2 and building on that and also having some really big, unexpected surprises, especially in the Super Bowl episode.”
“I think what we have right now will blow America away when that happens,” Plestis added. “And it will be an organic evolution of everything you see here on Season 2. So everything is a building block and everything is kind of mapped out like a good puzzle. We have a roadmap overall of how we want to change things and make it better and fun and different from anything you’ve seen.”
Plestis’ endgame in all of this is to create a global competition for the adaptations of “The Masked Singer” that have premiered or are being developed in other countries, including the OG in South Korea, as well as the UK, Australia, Mexico, Greece, South Africa, Thailand and more.
SUPERMARKET Sweep struck a chord with viewers after a contestant accidentally addressed host Rylan Clark-Neal as "Dale" last night.
Dale Winton, who fronted the original show, died last April after a much-loved presenting career on the small screen.
Rylan has since taken up the mantle, but admitted before the gig that Dale had left big shoes to fill.
On Wednesday night, competitor Will absent-mindedly blurted out the words: ‘Thank you, Dale,” leaving Rylan’s jaw firmly on the floor.
“I’ve got to say, that’s the biggest compliment of my career,” Rylan replied, before pulling Will in for a hug.
“That’s the best review I’m going to get for this whole game show, let me tell you,” he added.
While a fourth quipped: “Rule of TV: Don’t confuse the current TV host with the former deceased TV host.”
The faux pas comes after Rylan felt compelled to take to Twitter to hit out at the trolls criticising the show.
Supermarket Sweep has been slapped with complaints about food wastage, plastic packaging and age diversity since it kicked off earlier this month.
“Glad people are enjoying sweep,” he wrote to his 1.6m Twitter followers.
I want you all to look at this statement.....
But the phoenix shall rise again......because Stuck On the Telly is a spinoff and the orignal TM is ending. In the meantime, let's watch another episode of tellymime focusing on something networks can't get.........Syndication.
At least Guy Fieri is on all the time......
Paula Deen is facing criticism yet again — this time for her reaction to the sudden death of celebrity chef Carl Ruiz.
The Queen of the Donut Burger, 72, appeared on Monday’s The Big J Show, which airs on radio station Hot 101.9 in Billings, Mont., to promote her food empire. During the interview, she was asked if she knew Ruiz, the 44-year-old owner of La Cubana restaurant in NYC, who was a regular on Guy Fieri’s Food Network shows and friends with many of the network’s stars.
“No, I’m not” familiar with him, Deen, who genuinely seemed caught off-guard, replied, “but I’m so sorry to hear that.”
However, she then said, “You know, they say the restaurant business will kill ya,” cackling at her joke. She then added, “No pun intended.”
A rep for Deen has not responded to Yahoo's emails requesting comment.
Of course, the “losing her empire” reference was about Deen admitting to using the N-word while being deposed in a discrimination lawsuit in 2013. As a result, her business, which had pulled in an estimated $17 million the year before, unraveled and the Food Network severed ties with her. However, she’s continued to open restaurants and release cookbooks, including her latest, Paula Deen's Southern Baking: 125 Favorite Recipes from My Savannah Kitchen, which she was promoting on the radio show.
What if Cartoon Network aired Family Feud? We have evidence of this video and Livewire! has it all.

Women have made significant strides in the stand-up comedy arena as evidenced in network specials, award nominations and major film and television roles; however, despite these achievements and accolades, they are still largely under-recognized and, in some cases, not respected in the world of comedy.
And for black women in the game, the challenges are even greater.
Amanda Seales moves through those hurdles in a seamlessly effortless and “blackity-black” fashion; this multi-talented comedienne, who earlier this year released her first special “I Be Knowin’” and is also known for her role as Tiffany on “Insecure” (both on HBO), is a great example of the saying “if you can make ‘em laugh, you can make ‘em learn.”
Catch “Smart, Funny & Black” with Amanda Seales at 8 p.m., Saturday, September 28, at the Chicago Theatre, 175 N. State Street. Visit smartfunnyandblack.com for more information.

The Detroit Youth Choir may have finished second on this year’s edition of America’s Got Talent, but it will still get $1 million, matching the grand prize won by singer Kodi Lee.
The show wrapped its 14th season Wednesday on NBC, with Lee edging out the choir. But several Detroit businesses have decided to endow the hometown favorites anyway.
“I was watching you guys and you and Kodi Lee are on that stage, and my heart’s in my throat,” said Mayor Mike Duggan, who welcomed the group home.. “When they announced it was Kodi Lee, I was a little disappointed for a second. But I was like, ‘He deserves a million dollars; he was great.’ The only thing I thought was unfair was there should’ve been two first prizes.”
Duggan said he worked with Wendy Lewis Jackson, the Detroit Program managing director for the Kresge Foundation, and Tonya Allen, president & CEO of the Skillman Foundation, to create the endowment.
Those contributing to the Detroit Youth Choir endowment include:
- Skillman Foundation
- The Kresge Foundation
- W. K. Kellogg Foundation
- Ballmer Group
- Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan
- DTE Energy Foundation
- Max M. & Marjorie S. Fisher Foundation
- Bank of America
- Huntington Bank
- Dakkota Integrated Systems
Kodi Lee, who is blind and autistic, beat out the choir, comedian Ryan Niemiller, and acrobatic dance group V. He wins the $1 million and gets to headline an “AGT” show in Las Vegas.
