American Idol winner Taylor Hicks took a moment to reflect on Wednesday (October 7) as he celebrated a major milestone birthday, turning 50! Hicks, who won the fifth season of the ABC competition series in 2006, shared a celebratory Instagram post, writing, “50 years. Hard to believe, and even harder to fit into 20 pictures.” Alongside the caption, he shared a carousel of photos of his life before and after Idol. “Looking through these, I keep thinking about how much life can happen between photographs,” Hicks continued. “These capture some pretty incredible moments, but the stories and the people behind them are what mean the most to me.” The photos included a snap from a recent vacation, a shot of him winning Idol alongside runner-up Katharine McPhee and host Ryan Seacrest, as well as childhood school and college pics. “As a kid from Alabama, I wanted to entertain the world,” Hicks added. “Singing, making people laugh, finding a stage wherever I could. I didn’t know exactly where it would lead. I just knew I wanted to make people feel something and hopefully leave them a little better than I found them.” He went on, “That dream has taken me places I never imagined. Some of the people in these pictures knew me before any of it. Others, I grew up watching and listening to, never thinking I’d one day share a stage with them or call them friends. That still gets me.” |
And now boys and girls, The_real_t._terry has something to say with a thread of his own.

for the 10th consecutive time, already signed to be the musical director for this year's Game Show Live!'s honors, Robyn Cage has an announcement for us, so listen up.....................
John de Mol’s Talpa Studios has secured a Spanish commission for “The Winner Takes It All”, with public broadcaster RTVE ordering a local adaptation of the music game show. The Spanish version will be produced by RTVE in collaboration with Stratos Studios.
The format, which premiered earlier this year on SBS6 in the Netherlands, brings 50 singers together on an interactive LED floor, with each contestant assigned a square featuring the title of a hit song. Singers compete in head-to-head knockout duels, combining live performance with strategy across genres including pop, rock, opera, soul and musical theatre.
A three-member jury of music professionals decides the winner of each duel, with the victor taking the opponent’s position and a new song. Contestants who win three duels secure a golden spot, while a fourth victory earns a platinum position and a place in the grand finale, where the remaining performers compete for the top prize.
Spain becomes the third territory to commission “The Winner Takes It All”, following its Dutch launch and a commission from France Télévisions. In the Netherlands, the format became SBS6’s best talent-show launch in five years and was renewed for a second season while its first was still on air.
“It's fantastic to see ´The Winner Takes It All´ continue its international journey,” said Sebastian van Barneveld, Director Global Distribution at Talpa Studios. He highlighted the format’s combination of strategy, singing and high-stakes duels, adding that its mix of genres and live music allows the concept to travel across different markets and musical cultures.
This is just the beginning of Talpa's international deals in waiting. Talpa Studios is heading to next week’s TV market Mipcom with a slate of new entertainment formats, led by “Sing With Me” and “The Golden Elevators.”
“Sing With Me” is a feelgood music entertainment format developed in collaboration with Dutch producer IDTV, the creator of “The Traitors.”
In the show, aspiring singers get the chance to share the stage with some of the country’s biggest artists. Every performance begins as a solo, but when one of the established artists hears something special, they can grab a microphone and join in, transforming the performance into a duet.
The format launches on SBS6 in the Netherlands on Nov. 7.
“The Golden Elevators,” a quiz show that combines general knowledge with social strategy, has been ordered by ITV in the U.K. and SBS6 in the Netherlands, where it is set to air early next year. Ten contestants enter a skyscraper where they must choose between two elevators, each representing a possible answer to 10 questions. Choose correctly and you go up; choose the wrong one and you’re out.
Before the doors close, contestants may work together and share what they know – or deliberately send a rival into the wrong elevator – turning every question into a battle of knowledge, strategy and trust. Waiting at the top is a life-changing jackpot, to share with whoever makes it there.
Talpa Studios continues to expand its global footprint, with 26 formats active across 34 countries, and Sebastian van Barneveld, Talpa Studios’ director of global distribution, underscores the role that partnerships play in that growth, alongside the company’s investment in original IP.
Jenny Daly’s Studio82 has optioned Korean comedy reality gameshow Battle in the Box for a US adaptation in a deal with Seoul-based content IP agency Just iPicked.
Originally created and produced by South Korea’s NMedia, the format combines celebrity competition, reality and comedy, with two teams of two competing for physical space.
The celebrity pairs are placed inside an empty box divided by a movable wall. With no beds, chairs or everyday comforts, contestants must earn what they need through physical and mental challenges. Winning a challenge expands a team’s living space and pushes the wall toward its rival, shrinking the opposing team’s space.
The US option agreement was concluded by Daly, founder and CEO of Studio82, and Praise Shin, MD of Just iPicked, which handles the format’s international sales and remake negotiations.
The format has already been adapted in the UK and Sweden. The British version, produced by Interstellar for UKTV and hosted by comedian Jimmy Carr, aired in 2024 on U&Dave and streaming service U.
In Sweden, a local adaptation produced by Fremantle and hosted by comedian and filmmaker Felix Herngren launched on Prime Video in 2025.
(in my best Michael yo voice) SCRAMBLE!
Media and entertainment powerhouse, Banijay Entertainment, today announces it has acquired the global format rights and finished tape rights to Scrambled Up, an all-new studio-based word game from Michael Eisner’s The Tornante Company; Keller/Noll, the prolific US format creators Cleve Keller and Dave Noll (Chopped, America Says, Flip Side); Crazy Legs Productions; and Playing Field Entertainment.
Scrambled Up (320 X 30) sees four contestants compete to solve a series of increasingly challenging word scrambles. As each word gradually unscrambles on the board, the host reveals entertaining clues, challenging players to identify the correct answer first. Following two main rounds, the pace ramps up with Speed Scramble, where contestants race against the clock to solve shorter, category-based puzzles. The highest-scoring player then progresses to the Ultimate Scramble, where they must solve three final puzzles in 60 seconds to win a cash prize.
Originally launched as a daily syndication gameshow in the US, Scrambled Up was recently renewed for a second season with multiple partners like CBS-owned stations, with production recently wrapped on 160 new episodes, doubling its total episode count. The series also expanded through a dedicated 24/7 channel on Samsung TV Plus in the US and Canada.
Creatives Keller and Noll are behind a string of successful entertainment titles, including hit CBS gameshow Flip Side, which has reached 360 episodes in national syndication, long-running GSN series America Says, with 590 episodes; and Food Network favourite Chopped, which has surpassed 1,100 episodes commissioned.
Helen Greatorex, Head of Format Acquisitions, Banijay Entertainment, says: “Gameshows continue to have proven value across every platform and the US success of Scrambled Up already demonstrates it’s landing well with audiences. Cleve and Dave have a real instinct for creating formats people want to interact with, and this is no exception. It takes the familiar fun of word games and gives it a lively, funny twist, while importantly keeping it simple to follow. With all the right ingredients to travel internationally, the format complements our offering for MIPCOM perfectly.”
Dave Noll, Cleve Keller, Ross Babbit, Dave Bulhack, Gary Apple, Tom Cappello, Scott Thigpen, Adam Londy and Joe LaBracio are executive producers of Scrambled Up. Scrambled Up joins Banijay Entertainment’s premium third-party line-up, including cult strategic format Werewolves from STUDIOCANAL and Dreamspark, superbrand Ninja Warrior from Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS), French YouTube sensation Stop the Train from Unfold Production and recent addition, dating reality format Temptations Under the Sun from Productions J.
The format further strengthens Banijay Entertainment’s established gameshow line-up, joining globally recognised international hits like Deal or No Deal, The Money Drop, Lingo, Pointless, and Tipping Point.
