The Tubi opening toss up story.
We were supposed to have Simon Cowell out as the tossup story but we changed it because it's been all over the internet since yesterday and the game show community is rocked to the core. Why? This.
Sony Pictures Television has suspended Wheel of Fortune announcer Jim Thornton and is recasting his role.
The studio made the decision after an alleged incident on an American Airlines flight in May, although details of what exactly happened are not clear.
“We have recently been made aware of allegations concerning Jim Thornton. He has been suspended from Wheel of Fortune, and we are recasting while we conduct a thorough investigation,” a spokeswoman for the studio said in a statement. Deadline is reporting that the recasting is temporary, for now, as they go through the investigation.
The news was first reported by TMZ, which said that a passenger complained to a flight attendant about Thornton, who allegedly was wearing a Wheel of Fortune-branded top on the plane.
While the details aren’t clear, an American Airlines spokesperson said that law enforcement met the plane on its arrival in L.A.
“On May 14, American Airlines Flight 1276 was met by law enforcement upon arrival at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) following concerns reported by a customer onboard,” they said.
Thornton has been the announcer for the syndicated game show since 2011 as well as ABC’s Celebrity Wheel of Fortune since its launch in 2021. He has worked on more 2,200 episodes of the show. He also has announced The Price Is Right, and his voice has appeared on shows including Celebrity Deathmatch and The Cleveland Show.
Before Wheel of Fortune, he was best known as the afternoon anchor on L.A. news radio station KNX 1070.
Here's hoping they might get replaced with an AI soundalike of Jack Clark.

You knew this had to happen.
In a full-circle moment, Kenan Thompson is returning to NBC‘s America’s Got Talent as guest judge for the Quarterfinals Round 3 episode on Sept. 1. He will be filling in for judge Simon Cowell, also AGT‘s creator/executive producer, who has been sidelined by back surgery.
Cowell was not on the show this week as he is taking time off to undergo the procedure, described as routine and linked to the serious e-bike accident he suffered in August 2020, which led to complex spinal injury and long rehab. The recovery took him out of commission from the 2020 season of AGT, with guest judges filling in.
That included Thompson, who sat alongside judges Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Sofia Vergara as well as host Terry Crews for two episodes during the same stage of the competition, live quarterfinals.
“This is incredible,” Thompson said at the time. “Seize the moment, if you have nerves turn those nerves into superpowers.”
In 2020, Cowell fell from a powerful electric bike. The accident broke his back and reportedly nearly left him paralyzed. He then underwent six hours of surgery to repair several fractures. His spinal cord narrowly escaped injury. Reports later suggested that Cowell continued experiencing intermittent back problems. The upcoming procedure will reportedly address those lingering issues.

Netflix’s grand experiment with live, real-money mobile trivia has officially come to an end. Best Guess Live, the daily game show hosted by Howie Mandel, Hunter March, and Corinne Foxx, has aired its final episode and will be shutting down its app at the end of September.
If you opened the Best Guess Live app this weekend expecting to prepare for Monday night’s trivia, you were likely greeted by a goodbye message. The in-app notification officially confirmed the game’s closure, stating: “That’s a wrap on Best Guess Live! Our final episode aired Friday, August 28th. Thank you for playing, guessing, and celebrating with us every night — it’s been a blast.”
The app will remain open through Wednesday, September 30th exclusively for users to claim their outstanding payouts (though the Netflix app itself notes September 29th as the official “Last day to play” before it’s likely delisted). If you have a balance, you’ll want to hit that “Claim Your Winnings” button and contact support if you have any questions before the portal closes for good.
Developed by Apploff Entertainment and Ex Machina, Best Guess Live first burst onto the Netflix Games scene in late 2025. It was an incredibly ambitious swing for the streamer’s gaming division. Harkening back to the viral days of HQ Trivia, the mobile-only game required US-based players to tune in synchronously at 8:00 p.m. ET / 5:00 p.m. PT every weekday.
Hosted alternately by Deal or No Deal legend Mandel and Sugar Rush host March, the game challenged players to guess a secret item hidden inside a virtual crystal ball based on five increasingly obvious clues. Typos weren’t allowed, and you had to be exactly right to win a slice of the daily $15,000 prize pool.
In the series finale, co-hosts Hunter March and Howie Mandel reflected on the emotional end of Best Guest Live, calling it a “historic night” as they presented their “very last puzzle ever ever.”
Looking back on the show’s run, they described the production as a “completely unique experience” where they “tried some things that had never been done before,” jokingly adding that they also “tried some things that shouldn’t be done,” but ultimately “had a lot of fun.” The hosts repeatedly expressed their deep gratitude for the fans, sharing that “watching you win and seeing the community you have created has been very, very, very fulfilling.”
Before inviting the entire crew on camera for a final goodbye, they left their dedicated audience with a heartfelt parting message: “[N]o matter where you guys go from here don’t forget to bring your best guess… we appreciate everything that you guys gave to this beautiful show, this beautiful community.”

Alex Cooper’s Unwell is launching the next edition of its reality games competition, Unwell Summer Games, as the company continues its expansion amid increased headlines and controversy.
The YouTube series, which launches Sept. 7, brings together 16 reality stars, creators and internet personalities who compete for a $250,000 cash prize. The show was filmed over four days at a luxury ranch in Canada and follows the launch of the Unwell Winter Games in March.
Cooper is the executive producer of Unwell Summer Games in addition to her husband and co-CEO Matt Kaplan, Mina Lefevre and Eric Detwiler, who previously worked on Perfect Match and Love Is Blind. The series is hosted by Adam W., with commentary from Cameron Gerrard and Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu.

Hey California, good news for you...........
State support for the contracting L.A. film and TV industry is now in the hands of California Governor Gavin Newsom and some (hoperfully) very creative accountants. With just hours to spare, the California State Senate passed SB 2319 by a vote of 33-5.
The legislation creates a separate tax incentive for the post-production industry.
The bill now moves on to Newsom’s desk.
Earlier this year, state representatives talked about the post-production credit reaching up to $100 million in allocated incentives across VFX, scoring, mixing and more. That sky-high number is now more realistically envisioned at around $35 million for the first year.
It has one big problem: Should Newsom sign SB 2319, there’s no funding for it.
Yet, as close as the post-production credit might be to being added to the incentives program administered by the California Film Commission, the reality is there is still no actual funding in place for it.
The borderline-baroque $352 billion state budget is so tightly wound with its zero-deficit demands that money for such a new credit is nowhere to be seen, no matter how hard Hollywood has advocated for it and, truth be told, desperately needs it to turn the job losses around. Should Newsom — who has aspirations to the White House — sign the bill, the state’s accounting boffins will have to find a way to fund it.
The Motion Picture Editor’s Guild issued a statement praising the bill’s passing.
On the corporate side of things, State lawmakers on Friday introduced a bill meant to allow studios a few key exemptions from a recently enacted restriction on corporate tax credits. AB136, introduced Friday evening, addresses concerns raised from stakeholders including the Motion Picture Association about the threat of undermining the efforts to expand California’s Film & TV Tax Credit pool to $750 million.
Lawmakers have to consider legislation for 72 hours before voting. With that in mind, a vote on AB136 is likely to come Monday evening, hours before the midnight end to the legislative session.

BIG BROTHER celebrated its 1000th episode live Thursday, Aug. 27 and with this historic milestone, became the Guinness World Records title holder for most episodes of a primetime TV show and most episodes of a competitive reality TV show. During the live show, Guinness World Records official adjudicator Michael Empric officially presented host Julie Chen Moonves with the certificates for the two titles.
"Throughout our many summers producing BIG BROTHER, we never thought we'd reach 1,000 episodes - let alone, achieve not one but TWO Guinness World Records titles!" said executive producers Allison Grodner, Rich Meehan and Chris Roach. "We were so thrilled to have Michael from Guinness World Records join us for our historic 1,000th episode and officially present these to our legendary host, Julie Chen Moonves! We cannot thank our now two-time Guinness World Records title-holding BIG BROTHER family enough for working tirelessly behind the scenes to get us to this unprecedented milestone."
The officially amazing record-breaking night took a look back at some of the most memorable moments from the show's historic 26-year run and featured surprise appearances from former Houseguests including Chelsie Baham, Dan Gheesling, Britney Haynes and Kaysar Ridha, as determined by interactive fan votes. It also kicked off the biggest twist of the summer - the Houseguests traveled back to the year 1000, where four BIG BROTHER legends will lord over the night and challenge Houseguests in a way no BIG BROTHER Houseguests have been challenged before.
Moonves said the remaining players would be transported to medieval times, to the year 1000, which would “challenge the houseguests socially and competitively.” For the twist, there would be no Head of Household, no Veto Competition, and no Block Buster, adding, “But when all is said and done, someone’s game will come to an end before the next live eviction.”
To keep the competition under wraps, the live feeds would be “down for the next three days” until after Sunday (August 30) night’s episode, with Moonves suggesting, “Put your screens away, go outside, smell the flowers. The feeds will return after Sunday’s show.”
Beyond tonight's milestone, BIG BROTHER continues to deliver a standout summer for CBS, averaging 5.21 million viewers in 7-day multiplatform viewing - up +10% year over year according to Nielsen. Viewer engagement is also surging, with the show on track to reach 15 billion minutes watched this summer across BIG BROTHER and its live feeds, up +38% above last year (8.6 billion minutes). The momentum extends across key demos, with BIG BROTHER up +21% among adults 25-54 and +15% among adults 18-49 year over year.
Season 28 marks BIG BROTHER's most original hours of programming in 25 years since the beloved show's 2000 debut with extended 90-minute Wednesday episodes and the return of BIG BROTHER: UNLOCKED on Friday nights throughout the season.

Wheel of Fortune is making a significant change to its format ahead of Season 44, which premieres next month.
The long-running game show kicks off its newest season on September 14th, but it will look slightly different than in years past.
While the show has made many adjustments throughout its decades-long run, the traditional toss-up format had long remained the same. However, it’s now getting an upgrade, with every episode now starting with the Toss-Up Sprint. Audience members on set during filming of the upcoming season reportedly told outlets that instead of the usual two toss-ups kicking off each round, worth $1,000 and $2,000 respectively, each episode will start with 30 seconds of rapid-fire toss-ups.
Three contestants will race to solve a series of puzzle toss-ups, with only one guess allowed per competitor. If a contestant hits their buzzer and guesses correctly, they’ll be awarded $1,000. However, if they get it wrong, the answer will be immediately revealed, and the contestants will move on to the next puzzle. The clock will not stop in between each puzzle, and the toss-ups will continue until the time runs out.
