Paramount says its takeover of CNN’s parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, will be delayed for many months, and potentially well into 2027, due to pending lawsuits by state attorneys general and the Writers Guild of America.
Paramount said in a Friday afternoon court filing that it has agreed not to complete the mega-merger until an antitrust trial takes place, or until June 1, 2027, whichever comes first.
The current Paramount–Warner merger agreement expires on March 4, and is subject to an automatic extension through June 4, 2027.
Friday’s announcement blows up Paramount’s original plan to take control of Warner by the end of September. The delay was celebrated by critics of the deal. Shares in both Paramount and WBD slumped on the news.
The delay does not preclude all the parties involved from striking a settlement deal that would clear the path for the merger, though there are no indications that the cases are heading in that direction.
For the time being, at least, the deal uniting two of Hollywood’s biggest studios is in a deep freeze.
Friday’s agreement is the result of discussions between the lawyers for all the parties. It means there will no longer be an August 3 hearing on the states’ request for a preliminary injunction, and it withdraws the Writers Guild’s similar motion.

- Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison said he’s confident the combination with Warner Bros Discovery “does not pose any legal issues, and we will complete it and bring these two companies together.” “I know this additional uncertainty has been challenging, and I want to thank you for your continued patience, commitment and collective contributions,” he said in a memo to staff Monday obtained by Deadline. “For now, it remains business as usual. Paramount and WBD are separate companies operating independently, and our focus remains on serving our audiences, supporting one another and executing our strategy.”
- Privately, some top executives at Warner Bros. Discovery are rooting for the 12 states that have sued to block Paramount Skydance’s WBD takeover to win in court and get the megadeal nixed. What’s obvious, according to multiple sources, is that there’s a sizable contingent at Warner Bros. of people who don’t want the merger with Paramount to happen. And the prevailing feeling among some at WBD clearly is a hope that the state attorneys general lawsuit will gum up the works long enough to cause the deal to fall apart.

Smooch on this.
Apple has officially entered the dating show arena.
The streamer is revealing details for its first-ever dating series: An eight-episode documentary show that pairs together couples who appear to be opposites, who are then shipped off to one of the world’s most romantic and remote destinations to see if they can connect.
Fittingly, the series is called The Last Person on Earth.
The couples are chosen by New York Times bestselling author and couples therapist Esther Perel, along with a team of matchmakers and therapists.
Here’s the hook: “With more single people than ever before, and increasing levels of polarization and social isolation, this innovative experiment asks the question: could the last person on Earth you think you’d ever want to date end up being the one person you can’t live without? And will an unexpected pairing in paradise open their horizons and be the beginning of a life-changing relationship?”
Perel says, “Over the course of my career as a couples therapist, one truth has become undeniable: love may crave closeness, but desire is fueled by otherness. The Last Person on Earth is a bold exploration of relationships that challenges everything we assume about compatibility; inviting people to drop the checklist and embrace dating as an adventure into the unknown. When we choose to step outside the narrow boundaries of what feels familiar or safe, passionate love stories can flourish.”
Apple’s The Last Person on Earth relationship experiment comes as unscripted dating series are having a moment on streaming. Netflix has multiple hit offerings in the genre — from Love Is Blind to Too Hot to Handle and Age of Attraction — and Love Island USA has become a runaway sensation for Peacock.
From Boldprint Studios, the series is executive produced by Dan Gray, Lou Hutchinson and Phil Harris, with directors Josh Jacobs and Olly Lambert.

I don't want to bother doing my Iain Sterling impression but.......
With the Love Island Season 13 finale coming up, host Maya Jama also teased what viewers can expect for the finale.
“I will be in the villa again before the final, maybe once, maybe twice. So that’s exciting,” she said. “They don’t let me tell you, guys, anything. They did tell me that this final is going to be a bit different to the rest of them. They’re shaking up the format. I still don’t even know what that shakeup is, but I know there’s going to be a different format for the final. Live TV is my favorite. This is where I thrive because I can say silly things and go off script as much as possible without them being able to edit it out.”
The Love Island UK Season 13 finale is set for Monday, July 27 on ITV2 in the UK, with U.S. audiences able to stream the final episode on Thursday, July 30 on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.

Okay, so Press Your Luck is the more prize-gimmicky show than it's original counterpart back in the day, but the Big Banks square is the newest addition to the game where you win a prize from Elizabeth Banks' personal collection.....if you go on to the bonus round no one wants to get a million at. One nurse came so close to it, she's a front runner for Game Show Live! honors moment of 2026. But there's one square I need to change come next season. It's called................
Big Bank. Remember season 2 of Whammy! in which if you hit a whammy, all the money goes inot the bank and somebody has to hit the Big Bank square to answer a question for it all? Yeah, I think it's going to be a good addition next year being that it could make ratings gold more better for the show. Heck, this and the Big Banks square could confuse the heck out of a viewer but it doesn't matter to theme anyway.
