Never mind Hatfields and the McCoys. Forget the Capulets and the Montagues. The biggest Family Feud, for our money, is the game show that’s been pitting house against house for 50 years now.
Family Feud premiered on July 12, 1976, as the brainchild of Mark Goodson, a game show producer behind The Price Is Right, Match Game, and Password.
“The greatest challenge in the world is to invent a new game,” Goodson once explained, per The Encyclopedia of TV Game Shows. “A good game show must actively involve the viewer. A good game show seeks the simplest, sparest framework. A good game show will have the viewer talking out loud to the TV.”
Goodson succeeded on all counts with Family Feud, which has run in some iteration almost continuously for half a century now. In the first-ever Family Feud episode, the Moseley family played the Abramowitzes, and the game show’s first-ever question challenged the dueling clans to name famous Georges. (In a sign of the times, the most popular survey answers to that question were inaugural U.S. President George Washington, yes, but also comedians George Burns and George Gobel, actor George Jessel, and wrestler Gorgeous George.)
Family Feud debuted on ABC on July 12, 1976, and ranked as the #1 game show on daytime TV within a year. Richard Dawson, a Hogan’s Heroes actor and Match Game panelist, was the game show’s first host, though he revealed in a 2010 Television Academy interview that William Shatner was “on the leading edge” of getting the gig. Dawson went on to get a Daytime Emmy for his work. The first syndicated Family Feud premiered in primetime a little more than a year after the ABC version hit daytime TV. By September 1980, the former was running five shows a week, and it ranked as the top-rated syndicated game show from 1978 to 1984.
Family Feud returned to the screen on CBS on July 4, 1988, with Ray Combs, a comedian who’d gotten a standing ovation on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson in 1986, as host. In 1992, the show expanded to an hour-long format and got the moniker Family Feud Challenge, according to Game Show Confidential. Another syndicated Family Feud, later dubbed The New Family Feud, followed just weeks after the CBS edition. Combs hosted until 1994, when producers brought back Dawson, who’d by then married previous Family Feud contestant Gretchen Johnson, as the game show’s website reports.
A third syndicated version debuted in 1999, with stand-up comic Louie Anderson emceeing. Home Improvement alum Richard Karn took over hosting duties from 2002, followed by Seinfeld actor John O’Hurley in 2006, and comedian Steve Harvey in 2010.

Now some plans for Fox this fall.
Fox will have a very traditional rollout of its fall schedule this year.
The network has set its premiere dates for the start of the 2026-27 TV season, and aside from its two nights of live sports, all of them will come in the week of Sept. 21 — the first week of the Nielsen-measured season.
As has been the case for the past few seasons, Fox’s fall slate is heavy on unscripted and sports programming. The exceptions are on Tuesday nights, where Best Medicine and Doc will premiere Sept. 22, and Sundays, where season 38(!) of The Simpsons leads off a comedy block beginning Sept. 27..
The unscripted slates for Fox on Monday (Celebrity Name That Tune and Celebrity Weakest Link), Wednesday (The Floor and 99 to Beat) and Thursday (Hell’s Kitchen and Special Forces) are unchanged from last fall.
Fox will save its two new dramas, Baywatch and The Interrogator, and a new reality series called Marriage Market for later in the season. Returning shows American Dad!, Bob’s Burgers, Family Guy, Krapopolis, Memory of a Killer and Murder in a Small Town, along with a host of unscripted series, are also on deck for 2027 premieres.

- While Fox has renewed the vast majority of its unscripted slate, there were a couple of shows that didn’t make the cut this year. The network is benching So You Think You Can Dance and Jim Jeffries-hosted The Snake,
- Fox announced Tuesday that "The Masked Singer" judge Robin Thicke will replace Randy Jackson as bandleader on the game show revival when it returns for Season 6. Thicke joins returning host Jane Krakowski when new episodes begin airing Monday, September 21, at 8 p.m., leading into Season 2 of Jane Lynch's "Celebrity Weakest Link." TVLine has confirmed that two remaining Season 5 episodes featuring Jackson are still slated to air at a later, as-yet-unspecified date. Separately, while Jackson will no longer appear on screen going forward, sources tell TVLine he will continue to serve as a consulting music supervisor, lending his "unparalleled expertise" to help shape the show's signature sound and creative vision.

A new celebrity cast of characters is up for the challenge of Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test.
The season 5 contestants of the competition show were revealed by FOX on Wednesday, and they include everyone from sitcom actors to reality TV stars and A-list athletes.
The 15 trainees who’ve agreed to endure some of the harshest, most grueling challenges from the playbook of the actual special forces selection process include Candace Cameron Bure (Full House), David Charvet (Baywatch), Brandi Glanville (Real Housewives of Beverly Hills), Collin Gosselin (Jon & Kate Plus 8), and Oliver Hudson (Rules of Engagement).
This season, the celebrity recruits will be deployed in Malaysia to take on intense challenges in “the most hostile environment a soldier could operate in... the jungle,” according to FOX’s press release. Recruits will “adapt to uncomfortable conditions, unpredictable terrain and harsh jungle warfare tasks” as they endure challenges such as a claustrophobic, high-pressure search of an underground bunker to find crucial military weapons, a supply load retrieval while suspended 300 feet above the jungle floor, and a chemical gassing while finding coordinates of an enemy vessel.
In this experiment, the celebrities try to survive demanding training exercises led by the Directing Staff (DS) Rudy Reyes, Billy Billingham, Jason “Foxy” Fox, and Jovon “Q” Quarles, an elite team of ex-special forces operatives. They will guide the recruits while testing them to see who has the guts and glory to make it to the end.
Season 5 premieres Thursday, Sept. 24 at 9 p.m. ET.

Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro is proving to be a fierce new addition to the summer television lineup. The new series, which chronicles the search for the franchise’s next professional ballroom dancer ahead of Dancing with the Stars Season 35, debuted to a total audience of 5.33M after three days of viewing across ABC, Disney+, Hulu and digital platforms, according to Nielsen Big Data + Panel. The episode also scored a 0.86 rating among adults 18-49.
For context, the premiere audience for Season 34 of Dancing with the Stars last fall was 5.5M live + same-day viewers, and the series approached 10M L+SD viewers by the finale. It was the highest-rated and most-watched DWTS finale in nine years, thanks to the franchise’s stunning resurgence over the last two years.
The launch of The Next Pro is the first major expansion of the DWTS since it premiered in 2005. Over the years, the series has gone through dozens of pro dancers, many of whom returned for last season’s 20th anniversary celebration.
The early success of The Next Pro bodes quite well for the upcoming season of the flagship series, indicating that its latest cultural resonance is poised to continue.
Per Nielsen, The Next Pro, hosted by DWTS Season 34 champ Robert Irwin, is ABC’s strongest summer series debut across all genres since July 2020. On linear alone, the episode was the top program of the night both in total viewers with 4.42M and in the 18-49 demo with a 0.47 rating.
Currently, it stands as the best alternative series premiere this television season across broadcast and cable excluding those lucky enough to get NFL lead-ins.
Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro is produced by BBC Studios. The series airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on ABC and streaming next day on Disney+ and Hulu.
Next week, the remaining dancers face one of the toughest Dancing with the Stars challenges: a group performance. Mentored by Britt Stewart, they must master a high-intensity routine in just hours, putting teamwork, timing and resilience to the test.

What did game show network do so far this year?
The good things were, they reupped The Perfect Line and Flip side for another season in Atlanta, America says returns and The Fllor is coming soon to GSN.
The bad things were Family Feud only airing the Harvey version for its 50th birthday. Boo! Match Game is still the only pre-1990 classic on there and Split Second might've been gone by now.
