The Tubi opening toss up story.

Sony Pictures Entertainment is laying off hundreds of employees across its film studio, TV studios and corporate, as CEO Ravi Ahuja refocuses the entertainment company on certain core growth areas while pulling back in other places. A source describes the move as being about strategy, not cost-cutting.

SPE, of course, is unique among the major Hollywood studios in that it has focused on creating original film and TV projects and selling them to networks and streamers, rather than trying to own a major streaming platform itself (Sony does own the anime platform Crunchyroll). SPE is said to be doubling down on that strategy, while leaning into its strength in anime and its sister company PlayStation, with video game-based intellectual property still somewhat underutilized.

The company plans to expand its game show business (SPE produces Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune, among other formats), develop more content on free streaming platforms like YouTube (see the reboot of Reading Rainbow), and develop more owned IP from the likes of Peanuts (which SPE recently acquired) and PlayStation titles.

“While the industry around us continues to evolve, we are uniquely well positioned for this moment,” Ahuja told staff in a memo Tuesday morning. “The demonstrated value of our independent television and film studios offers us the flexibility to move with the market — to partner broadly, match projects with the right platforms, and support our creative partners in bringing great stories to life. Furthermore, we are underpinned by strong franchises and brands. And our connectivity to the broader Sony Group ecosystem centers us for accelerated growth in anime and game IP adaptations.

“This organizational shift is about reorienting to thrive in a changing industry,” he added. “By aligning our structure and resources more closely with our strategic priorities, we will move forward with greater clarity and momentum and be better equipped for innovation and resilience.”

John Zaccario, President of Game Show Network, will transition out of his role later this summer after 18 years at the company. Zaccario’s exit stems from a consolidation move to bring GSN together with the studio’s game show production group under Suzanne Prete, President, Game Shows.

Under Zaccario’s leadership, GSN grew into a top 10 cable network and a top five general entertainment network. The entire linear cable business has been steadily declining in the streaming era, which would explain why GSN — wholly owned by SPE since 2019 — is being folded into the studio’s game show portfolio. Zaccario will stay on to help with the transition.

SAG-AFTRA will resume its negotiations with the major studios on April 27, thanks to an early agreement with the Writers Guild of America.

The performers’ union broke off talks with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers on March 15. The two sides had been at the table for five weeks at that point, and expected to resume bargaining in June, after the AMPTP talked to the WGA and the Directors Guild of America.

But when the WGA reached a tentative deal on Saturday, nearly a month before its contract was set to expire, it created an unexpected opening in the AMPTP calendar.

“SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP will resume formal negotiations on Monday, April 27, and remain under a mutually agreed-upon media blackout,” the union and the studio group said in a joint statement on Monday.

SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP will now try to wrap up an agreement before the DGA comes in to talk to the studios on May 11.

“The AMPTP has reached a tentative agreement with the WGA,” the studio group said in a statement. “We look forward to building on this progress as we continue working toward agreements that support long-term industry stability.”

The early agreement marks a stark contrast from the last contract cycle, when the WGA went on strike for 148 days to secure improvements in streaming residuals, TV staffing minimums, and other terms.

Chopped Castaways, the most extreme evolution of Food Network's juggernaut Chopped, premieres Tuesday, May 12 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Food Network and will be available to stream the following day on HBO Max(R). Hosted by Ted Allen, the eight-episode series strands 12 elite chefs on a remote island, where survival skills are just as critical as culinary talent. Battling the elements across two grueling cooking rounds each week, competitors must build a working kitchen from basic supplies, earn their signature Chopped ingredient baskets through intense physical challenges, and cook entirely over open fire. Culinary heavyweights Gabe Bertaccini, Maneet Chauhan and Marcus Samuelsson serve as judges throughout the arced competition, offering guidance while deciding who advances - and who is chopped. The season begins as a team competition before dissolving into an individual battle, raising the stakes as the chefs fight to outlast their rivals and claim the $100,000 grand prize. Only the most resilient, strategic, and adaptive chef will survive island life and the pressure of the competition.

"Chopped is a series beloved by fans because it consistently delivers the high-stakes competition they crave," said Betsy Ayala, President, Food Network. "With Chopped Castaways, we take that familiar formula of ingenuity and creativity and push it to the next level, challenging some of the most talented and resourceful chefs to battle the elements and approach the baskets in ways we've never seen before - all for an epic $100,000 prize."

Each episode opens with survival-driven physical challenges - such as archery, spearfishing, diving in the ocean and digging in the sand - to secure ingredients for round one. Get a sneak peek each week at some of the mystery basket ingredients, learn the judges' ultimate tips and tricks for mastering the Chopped kitchen and meet the new competitors at FoodNetwork.com/Chopped. Head to Food Network's social pages to hear daily chef confessionals, watch the judges hone their desert island survival skills and learn tips for using tropical ingredients. Fans can use #Chopped and #ChoppedCastaways to follow all the action.

Chopped Castaways is produced by Notional LLC for Food Network.

Here's a Game changer for you.................

For over seven seasons, Game Changer, the competition series from the indie comedy platform Dropout, has been amassing quite a following. The show, hosted by Sam Reich, even had a crossover of sortsOpens in a new tab with the ABC procedural series The Rookie. The basic premise of the show has the contestants left completely unaware of the rules, let alone the game’s premise, until the episode starts. And every episode features a brand new scenario, hence the title. And soon, fans will be able to bring this specific Game Changer brand of hilarious insanity home. On May 5, a Game Changer: Home Edition tabletop game is launching via Kickstarter. Fans have waited patiently for this one.

And here’s the official description on the Kickstarter page for the Game Changer: Home Edition, the chaotic party game where the rules change with every round.

Three games. One box. Infinite possibilities. Prepare yourself for a chaotic new party game, based on Dropout’s hit game show, where the only rule is that the rules keep changing.

It seems Dropout is keeping most of the details of this new home version of Game Changer under wraps. But we expect it to be suitably chaotic. We imagine that as the months roll on, we’ll get more information once the Kickstarter campaign hits its goals. Game Changer began in 2019, as the brainchild of its host, comedian Sam Reich. Most of the contestants on the show have been comedians of one type or another, or folks adept at on-the-fly improv. These include Howie Mandel, Eric Warheim, and former RuPaul’s Drag Race stars like Bob the Drag Queen and Laganja Estranja. Even esteemed actor Giancarlo Esposito has appeared on the show. Here’s hoping the home edition is just as wild as the version on our screens all these years.

If you want to bring Dropout’s Game Changer home, support the Kickstarter today.

The ARD quiz show "Gefragt - Gejagt" will celebrate a significant anniversary in 2026, marking a milestone in German television with its 1,000th episode.

A central element of the celebrations will be the anniversary celebration week from July 20 to 23, during which Das Erste will broadcast double episodes daily starting at 6:00 PM. Additionally, the format will be presented in the summer with two XXL editions in prime time at 8:15 PM to give the occasion an appropriately grand setting.

Channel 4's hit experimental series Handcuffed: Last Pair Standing has reportedly been renewed for a second season following its successful launch.

The series, hosted by Jonathan Ross, challenged 18 strangers to remain handcuffed to one another for as long as they could manage, to be in with a chance to win £100,000.

In a divided Britain, the series set out with the hopes that pairs living in such close proximity with one another would force opposites to talk, listen and perhaps learn from each other – and it seems to have paid off as two polar opposites won the series.

And that isn't all, with The Sun also reporting the series will be getting a celebrity spin-off.

Radio Times has reached out to Channel 4 for comment.

Yeah yeah. Now the answer.........................

Fun fact: The Mount Pisgah African Methodist Episcopal Church in Philadelphia, a stone gothic church building at 41st and Spring Garden Street, was used for exterior views of the First Community Church. Consequently, the Mount Pisgah Church became known to the nation as the "Amen Church".
