The  Talking Through The Medias opening toss up story.

Shares of Paramount Global are softer Tuesday after Edgar Bronfman Jr. exited the Paramount fray last night and shareholders hoping for a bidding war with Skydance were disappointed.

"It was a long shot to begin with," said one investor of Bronfman's offer. "But you always want a competitive process with the hope that one or both sides will sweeten their bid. That didn't happen." The stock is down 6.4% at $10.60.

At the end of the day, time ran out, said a person familiar with situation of the former media executive and heir to the Seagram liquor fortune and the investor consortium he assembled. The financing depended heavily on high-net-worth individuals as private equity and institutional investors were slow to step in. Layers of documentation to show a reasonable probability of success were required well before September 5, the point where Par could have extended the conversation for another 15 days.

Deadline reports the Bronfman camp continued trying to coral backers through yesterday but in the end didn't have what it needed in time.

There's also the question of whether Bronfman's offer, worth $6 billion, was somehow better than the Skydance agreement, worth $8 billion, although they weren't apples to apples. Lawyers for the David Ellison company slammed the special committee of the Paramount board over that in a letter alleging breach of their agreement since the 45-day "go shop" period only allowed Par to consider "superior" offers.

National Amusements is a regional movie theater chain; however, Sumner Redstone turned it into a media behemoth by acquiring Viacom, Paramount and CBS. National Amusements owns only about 10 percent of Paramount's equity, but it controls about 80 percent of its voting stock, giving it control of the entertainment firm.

Shari Redstone has run the company since her father's death in 2020.

Everybody is enjoying a false fall, but we find out who is off the mark and who suffered a 5-yard penalty on a false start. It's the Yay & Yawn of August.

The Yay: The Traitors on Peacock.

Peacock is making a big commitment to The Traitors.

The NBCUniversal-owned streamer has ordered two more seasons of the show, which will take The Traitors through its fifth installment. The pickup comes after season two of the series earned four Emmy nominations — including nods for best reality competition program and outstanding host for a reality show in Alan Cumming — and several months before season three's planned premiere in early 2025.

The Traitors earned a good deal of buzz for its format — in which several players are "traitors" who work to eliminate other contestants from the game — and broke out in its second season, becoming the most watched unscripted streaming show in the U.S. for its premiere week in January. It spent five weeks in Nielsen's ranking of the top 10 original streaming shows.

The season three cast, revealed in June, will feature Vanderpump Rules controversy magnet Tom Sandoval, multi-time Survivor alum Rob Mariano, several Real Housewives, Selling Sunset's Chrishell Stause and former Bachelorette Gabby Windey, among others.

Cumming will also return as host for seasons four and five. The host told The Hollywood Reporter that he's playing a character while hosting The Traitors, for which he earned the fifth Emmy nod of his career: "I act my socks off in The Traitors, just like I did on The Good Wife, and it's this very juicy thing like I do in the theater or would do at the Tonys."

The Yawn: Pluto TV's Wheel and Jeopardy! channels. Sony did not renew its deal with them on the most popular FAST app, so they went away without a hitch, leaving game show fanatics wondering if they came back. Well, the company did make a distribution deal to get them back as soon as possible, so keep it on this blog for more info.

Cal State LA is getting into the game show world in an educational new way.

"There has never been a class on game shows taught at any university anywhere in the world, so Cal State LA is the very first and I'm so proud, nervous, excited to be the first person to teach it," said new faculty member Stuart Krasnow.

He is currently the show runner on "The Weakest Link" but he's now moonlighting as a faculty member at Cal State LA, teaching the inaugural class of "Get In The Game." It takes students into the world of game shows. The first class was Wednesday evening.

"They're going to learn everything, from casting to hosting to lighting, game concept, game development," said Krasnow. "We're going to teach them just about, you know, there's so many elements that go into a good game show."

Bob Boden and Harry Friedman created the curriculum. Boden is the co-founder of the National Archives of Game Show History. Friedman spent years as the executive producer of both "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy!" Together, they knew one class wasn't going to cut it!

"The second class will be a tour through development," Boden said. "And at the end of that class, they will settle on one idea. And in the third class, they will produce a pilot of that idea. And that pilot actually will be good enough to pitch to professional networks."

Dr. Kristiina Hackel, the chair of the department of TV, film and media studies, is excited for what's about to happen. Hackel said their students love production and post-production.

"This is an amazing opportunity for them. And certainly to learn from the best and people work in the field right now, it's an incredible, incredible thing," said Hackel.

Friedman agrees.

"There's so much that goes on behind-the-scenes and some of the jobs, yes, are not necessarily the marquee jobs that people know about but they're no less important. So we know these students are going to be making decisions about their careers," he said.

Remember at the top of the show in which Paramount took Skydance to court? Well................

MGM Alternative may soon be under new ownership.

Deadline reports that the company is considering a sale of its unscripted production studio. The unit is behind shows such as NBC's The Voice, CBS' Survivor, ABC's Shark Tank and Fox's Beat Shazam and also incorporates two production companies — Evolution Media, which produces shows including Bravo' hit reality hits Vanderpump Rules and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, and Big Fish Entertainment, the company behind Reelz's On Patrol: Live.

Deadline reports that the tech giant has received a number of proposals from potential buyers. There was understood to be one inquiry toward the end of last year as well as a more recent approach, which has sparked renewed talks over a deal.

It's not certain that Amazon would sell the division as a deal might not materialize. Insiders said that the division, which also is behind upcoming titles including Travis Kelce-fronted Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity? and Wish List Games, hosted by Nick Cannon, is profitable.

Amazon closed its acquisition of MGM for $8.5B in 2022.

The unscripted division largely was built up by Mark Burnett, who left the company in November 2022. MGM acquired a 55% stake in Burnett's companies One Three Media and LightWorkers Media in 2014 before buying the remaining 45% a year later and naming him President of MGM Television and Digital Group.

In Food Network's newest competition series, Last Bite Hotel, premiering Tuesday, September 24 at 9PM ET/PT, eight chefs have been invited to a remote hotel for a game of resourcefulness and creativity. Tasked by the hotel manager to meet the culinary demands of the hotel's VIP guests, each chef may only bring 13 ingredients for their entire stay. Cooking skills won't be enough to get them to the finish line, as ingenuity and calculated risks are needed to survive and cook another day. Emmy(R) and SAG-nominated actor, musician and writer Tituss Burgess brings mystery, intrigue and his wry, dark wit to the game as the host and hotel manager who delivers quips and challenges as only he can.

As the game proceeds, each challenge completed means precious ingredients are dwindling, and, for the competitors, the chance of being banished to the dreaded Room 13 is increasing. As competitors are eliminated, they bequeath their remaining ingredients to chosen remaining challengers, making strategy and alliances a crucial part of surviving the competition.

"Last Bite Hotel takes the resourcefulness of culinary creativity to a whole new level. Precious provisions are carefully decided before chefs even step foot in the kitchen," said Betsy Ayala, Head of Content, Food. "The competition's twists and turns are made even more suspenseful by the macabre playfulness of the incredibly talented Tituss Burgess as hotel manager."

Competitors over the six-episode season include Brittanny Anderson (Richmond, VA), Gabriella Baldwin(Detroit, MI), Graham Campbell (Edinburg, TX), Tobias Dorzon (Baltimore, MD), Byron Gomez (Denver, CO), Kevin Lee (Oklahoma, OK), Nini Nguyen (New Orleans, LA) and Aarthi Sampath (New York, NY.) VIP guest judges checking into the hotel include Esther Choi, Cat Cora, Jose Garces, Alex Guarnaschelli, Judy Joo, Poppy O'Toole, Marcus Samuelsson, Michael Symon, and Andrew Zimmern.

Fans can head inside the mysterious hotel helmed by Tituss as he shares some of the surprises awaiting the chefs. Plus, they can get the first look at what each competitor packed in their trunk and hear from the VIP guests checking in for dinner. Fans on social can also follow along with #LastBiteHotel.
