The  Talking Through The Medias opening toss up story.

In a landmark deal that will shake up the entertainment landscape, Shari Redstone has agreed to sell control of Paramount Global to a consortium led by Skydance, the production company helmed by David Ellison, and Gerry Cardinale's RedBird Capital.

The sale, assuming it is approved by regulators and completed (and assuming a better bid does not emerge), would see Skydance acquire Redstone's majority stake in National Amusements, which in turn would secure control of Paramount, the owner of the Paramount film and TV studios, Paramount+, CBS, and cable channels like Nickelodeon, MTV and Comedy Central.

The consummation of the deal is the culmination of months of "will they or won't they" speculation, with the Skydance consortium beginning talks late last year, only to see multiple rounds of negotiations fall apart when Redstone rejected the deal in place at the eleventh hour last month. The two sides, however, continued talking, leading to a new agreement that secured Redstone's approval.

Once the deal closes, the plan is for Paramount to acquire Skydance, which in turn will install its own leadership team at the storied entertainment company. Ellison will be CEO, with former NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell (currently working at RedBird) set to run the company day-to-day as its president.

Skydance had to sweeten its deal offer in hopes of ensuring more value for nonvoting Paramount shareholders, who had complained that initial deal offers had guaranteed Redstone a premium but would have diluted them, giving them the short end of the stick.

According to the companies, the Skydance consortium will "invest $2.4 billion to acquire National Amusements for cash and $4.5 billion for the stock/cash merger consideration to be paid for publicly traded Class A shares and Class B shares, as well as $1.5 billion of primary capital to be added to Paramount's balance sheet."

The deal not only buys out Redstone's stake, but also allows both Class A and Class B shareholders to cash out at $23 per share and $15 per share, respectively. Skydance says when it is all said and done, it expects to own 70 percent of shares outstanding.

The all-stock deal to merge Skydance into Paramount will value Ellison's studio at $4.75 billion.

National Amusements is a regional movie theater chain; however, Sumner Redstone turned it into a media behemoth by acquiring Viacom, Paramount and CBS. National Amusements owns only about 10 percent of Paramount's equity, but it controls about 80 percent of its voting stock, giving it control of the entertainment firm.

Shari Redstone has run the company since her father's death in 2020.

Amy: Some members of our viewing audience will receive......

Sliced pepperoni from Aldi. If you need some toppings for a homemade pizza, you're gonna have Mama Cozzi's pizza kitchen sliced pepperoni for just $2. That costs less than a pepperoni pizza at Papa John's. No kidding. Get to Aldi today. Now to a guy who knows about ham & pineapple on pizza, it's Pierre Kelly!

Me: Very true IMO, because we're back and if there's any opinion about pineapple on pizza, why not file a grievance?

When Family Feud first started on ABC, it was Howard Felsher. The late Kristin Bjorklund was also a showrunner too and so was Rushion Mcdonald and Michael Canter when the Feud got started in 1999. But now there's a new sheriff in town.

As a child of the 1970s, Myeshia Mizuno still remembers watching the Richard Dawson incarnation of "Family Feud" at home. Now, she's the new showrunner on the Steve Harvey-hosted daytime version in syndication and the primetime "Celebrity Family Feud" on ABC — which returns July 9 for its 10th anniversary and landmark 100th episode.

And in taking on those roles — which she began earlier this year, Mizuno is also making history. After much research by the folks at series producer Fremantle, they can confirm that Mizuno is indeed the first-ever Black woman to serve as a network game show showrunner.

"I grew up watching game shows, everyone watched game shows," Mizuno says. "They have traditionally been run by white males. So, to be the first Black woman to run a primetime network game show is huge. And not just any game show, but an iconic franchise at that! I'm very appreciative of it. I don't know why it has taken such a long time, but I'm happy to know that it's now a genre that has been cracked open for someone like me to be a part of it."

Now that she's in charge "Feud," Mizuno knows her most important job is to also make sure the show continues to run like a piece of cake.

"It's daunting, but definitely what I'm up for," she says. "It's a well-built machine, but coming in and adding some oil to the spokes is how I look at it."

That includes small tweaks like replacing one of the giveaways on the syndicated version from a car to a vacation package. "Because every time you ask the families what they want to do, they always say they want to go on a vacation. So, we partnered with Marriott this year."

On "Celebrity Family Feud," the production added a plush backstage area for the contestants to relax before or after their episode taping. "We're finding that they're still hanging out and sticking around for the next game afterwards," Mizuno says. "Rather than just packing up ad leaving. I think we brought an environment of excitement and fun. And everyone is enjoying it — myself, the staff, the audience. It's family."

Global sports betting and gaming group built on proprietary technology, Entain, has announced the exciting launch of a brand new live gameshow with support from the leading platform, content, and services provider in the online gambling industry, Playtech.

The Chase, which is the name of the new game, follows the proven model carried by the iconic ITV gameshow that constantly gathers a daily UK viewership of roughly four million. Described as "a quiz with a difference," the TV gameshow reunites four contestants who need to "pit their wits against the Chaser, a ruthless quiz genius" determined to prevent them from winning the cash prize.

Entain's new release, which seems to be the first of its kind, is hosted by Playtech from its nonstop live studio in Riga, Latvia. Originally, the new live gameshow went live for Entain's customers based in the UK, then reached the regulated markets in Canada (Ontario), Brazil, and Belgium.

Italian and South African players can expect to get official access to the game that is exclusive to Entain's brands sometime in the near future.

The Chase displays a plinko board and counts two separate bonus features aimed at keeping players well engaged until the "Final Chase" is initiated.

Just one month after its release, the game's performance peaked, reaching a whopping 56% increase in terms of player spending. "

In an engaging and nostalgic panel discussion titled "Everyone Wants To Be A Millioanire - 25 Years Of The Format" at Natpe Budapest (Hungary, June 24-27, 2024) moderated by Clare Thompson of K7Media, was commemorated the 25th anniversary of Sony Pictures Television's (SPT) legendary game show, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" (WWTBAM).

The panel featured some personalities including the Polish host Hubert Urbanski, Laura St. Clair, SVP of Format Sales and International Production at SPT, and Matthew Worthy, co-founder of Stellify Media and Executive Producer of the UK series. Clare Thompson in her introduction remarked the unparalleled success, noting its consistent top position on K7 Media's annual Tracking the Giants list of the top traveling non-scripted formats worldwide.

With 179 versions launched globally and over 30 still active, the format is 61 ahead of its nearest rival, "Deal or No Deal," and boasts double the number of adaptations compared to the third-placed "Family Feud." Since its UK debut in September 1998, the show has celebrated milestones across the globe, with Poland and Germany reaching their 25th anniversaries in 2024. But what is it about WWTBAM that has made it endure?

Each panellist shared their earliest memories of the show. Laura St. Clair recalled the massive impact WWTBAM had when it launched at the BBC, describing it as a primetime event with a monumental prize. She emphasized the format's simplicity, flexibility, and unique approach to quiz shows, likening it to a primetime sporting event. These qualities have allowed WWTBAM to continue captivating audiences and traveling across different regions. A montage showcasing the show's various international versions was a testament to its universal appeal.

Hubert Urbanski, who has been the face of WWTBAM in Poland since its launch in September 1999, reflected on his journey with the show. With three different versions airing on TVN over the years, Hubert has become synonymous with the Polish iteration of WWTBAM. We were treated to a reel of his best moments, showcasing his enduring charisma and connection with the audience.

Matthew Worthy recounted the opportunity Stellify Media had in 2018 to repitch WWTBAM to ITV with a new host, Jeremy Clarkson. Convincing Clarkson to take on the role was crucial, and the team focused on returning to the show's basics while introducing a new lifeline and safety net. A clip from the UK show with Clarkson highlighted the fresh yet familiar feel of the revamped format.

The panel concluded with a glimpse into the future of WWTBAM. A new season is set to air in Poland this autumn, with another recording in the UK for ITV in November. New celebrity specials are planned in France and the US with Jimmy Kimmel. The potential for more revivals is also on the horizon, ensuring that WWTBAM will continue to captivate audiences worldwide. The format is also is set to launch in Mongolia and Guatemala.

This celebration of WWTBAM's 25-year journey showcased its remarkable adaptability and enduring popularity. As the format continues to evolve and expand, it remains a beloved staple in the world of game shows, captivating generations of viewers with its timeless appeal.

Katherine Ryan will lead a group of 30 entertainers trying to stop an audience from remaining silent and pocketing a quarter of a millions pounds (around $320,000) in a new TV series.

Silence Is Golden is a new comedy game show coming to Dave, hosted by television and radio presenter Dermot O'Leary, in which the studio audience must try to not utter a sound.

Six hour-long episodes of the show have been ordered to air in 2025, when the channel will have become known as U&Dave.

The group of entertainers, led by three as-yet-to-be-announced comics and headed up by Ryan, wage war on the audience, who are all individually miked up, with each sound forced out of them by the acts bringing the £250,000 prize pot down. If the entertainers get the pot to zero, they get to give the money to charity.

"I'm so looking forward to Silence Is Golden," said O'Leary. "When a show like this falls into your lap, you can't quite believe your luck. Looking forward to having lots of fun with the audience, our comedians and assorted cast of regulars, all trying to make the audience laugh, gasp and giggle."

The show is one of the first commissions for Yes Yes Media, the company founded by former Blue Peter presenter Richard Bacon, and bears a superficial resemblance to Amazon's LOL: Last One Laughing format, in which comedians must try to resist other comedians trying to make them laugh. Having aired multiple different versions internationally, including in Australia, Canada and Ireland, a UK adaptation of LOL is reportedly in development.

Bacon said: "You know the feeling when you're not allowed to laugh at a funeral? Well, it's that: the Game Show. And I commend U&Dave for boldly commissioning a show that will cost them a quarter million a week - if the audience is better at playing the game than we are."

Ryan is already a team captain on Rosie Jones's Comedy Central panel show Out Of Order alongside Judi Love, and was recently announced as a judge on the next series of Canada's Got Talent.

Silence Is Golden is produced by Tim Dean (Late Night Lycett) and was commissioned for UKTV by Mark Iddon, senior commissioning editor, comedy and entertainment, and Jason Dawson, commissioning executive.
