And Randy Jackson as Pluto Nash

Paula Abdul is among an ensemble cast for a feature-length podcast from Steven Jay Rubin (Bleacher Bums), Billy Riback (Home Improvement) and stand-up comic Bruce Smirnoff.

The American Idol star is starring in Spacemen From Planet Judy alongside Phil Hendrie (Rick and Morty), Hal Rudnick (Reno 911), John Mariano (The Offer) and Eric Waddell (Funny You Should Ask).

It begins when all of Earth’s gay males, and two straight men dressed in drag because there was a mix-up in their Halloween costumes, are abducted to the distant planet Judy (named after Judy Garland), the gay haven world of the universe, where they will live in freedom without oppression.

Inadvertently kidnapped, bumbling information technology specialists Mitch (Hendrie) and Lenny (Rudnick) find themselves on an exotic world of constant partying, mingling and cuddling, all run by the Golden Ram Man (Mariano), a mad tyrant who abhors insubordination and seeded grapes.

To get off the planet, Mitch and Lenny are helped by an attractive young man named Jeff (Waddell) who is able to spirit them into the Great Judy Desert, where they stumble upon the other culture on Judy, Pleezeentermee, and their voluptuous Amazon-like Queen Sensura (Abdul).

These sex-starved women do without except for once every ten years when the minds of Judy’s inhabitants are chemically altered to help propagate the planet. Informed that the Earthlings have escaped, Ram Man launches a “rescue” operation just as Mitch and Lenny are about to bed down with the first of 20,000 man-hungry Pleezentines. Outraged that these straight men are no longer available for her personal needs, Sensura orders her female cavalry to all-out war. Now it’s up to Mitch, Lenny and Jeff to avert a battle royal between the sexes that reveals Ram Man’s secret plan to destroy the Earth now that all the gay men are safe and sound on Judy.

Greg Binkley (Raising Hope), Mark DeCarlo (Pinocchio), Brian Delate (The Truman Show), Keeshan Giles (The Really Loud House), Sandy Hackett (The Portal), Jann Karam (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Sam Kwazman (Robot Chicken), John Montana (How to Get Away with Murder), Royal Oakes (Good Morning Britain), Lisa Pescia (Body Chemistry) and Tom Stern (The Moon and the Sun) also star.

You May Kiss the Bride.....for $8.99

Disney’s streaming bundle combining Hulu and Disney+ in one service officially launched Wednesday morning, ending a three-month beta period described by the company as a success.

The “duo” plan, Hulu on Disney+, is priced $2 higher than each individual subscriptions alone. It follows in the the estimable footsteps of the three-service Disney Bundle first introduced in 2020, which also includes ESPN+. Unlike that ongoing offering, though, the two-service one is focused on streamlining the consumer experience and pooling the content of two large, established streaming players within a single outlet. The combo version has a Hulu “tile” on the home screen alongside Marvel, Pixar and the other original pillars of Disney+.

Subscriber response was positive during the beta period, Disney Entertainment Direct-to-Consumer President Joe Earley said during a press briefing on the eve of the launch. About one-third of subscribers who were eligible to take part in the beta wound up doing so, he said. Overall viewing, in terms of duration, variety and percentage of paid subscribers watching, all outperformed internal expectations. “In any way we were measuring and watching, the behavior exceeded it,” Earley said.

Hulu had 49.7 million subscribers as of the end of 2023, including 4.6 million who get the Hulu + Live TV pay service. Disney+ had 111.3 million, not counting its Disney+ Hotstar base of 38.3 million. The company has never disclosed the number of bundle subscribers. Throughout the past few months, as work began on the two-service bundle, Disney has maintained that both services will remain available as stand-alones and that sentiment was reinforced during the briefing.

Bundling has been reshaping the entire streaming sector, and Disney has additional incentive to leverage Hulu after buying out Comcast’s one-third stake in the 17-year-old former joint venture and assuming full control of it. Unlike Disney+, Hulu has remained a domestic operation, though its programming is integrated in a number of territories outside the U.S. During a Disney earnings call with Wall Street analysts last November, CEO Bob Iger said the bundle would enable Disney to use its “upsell capabilities” and increase engagement as it continues to trim streaming losses.

Alex Horne and the expensive parking ticket

The wild Channel 4 game show - which sees five constants trying to impress Greg Davies and his assistant, and show creator, Little Alex Horne - went to the United States this week bringing the programme back to its roots with a special live comedy show, but there was a major mishap with tickets.

In a statement on X, formerly Twitter, the team said: "Thank you to everyone who turned up at Rodney’s Comedy Club to see us in New York tonight. We were surprised and overjoyed at the amount of you who turned up.

"Due to a ticketing error with the venue, more tickets were sold than the venue had capacity for. We tried to fit in as many as possible, and we’re hugely sorry to anyone who had a ticket and couldn’t get in.

"We’re processing refunds to those who couldn’t get in as soon as we can, as well as giving them priority tickets to the next event we do here.

"We’ll make it our task to come back to NY very soon!"

For fans in the UK, the upcoming 17th series will return on March 28 with Steve Pemberton, Nick Mohammed, John Robins, Joanne McNally and Sophie Willan.

The broadcaster previously teased: "Who will emerge victorious, raise the weighty trophy above their head, and call themselves a Taskmaster champion?"

Earlier this year, the show hosted its third Champion of Champions special which saw the winners of series 11 through 14 head back to the house for another go.

Sarah Kendall, Morgana Robinson, Sophie Duker and Dara Ó Briain were back, while series 15 winner Mae Martin was unavailable and was instead replaced by runner-up Kiell Smith-Bynoe.

Dara won the series with Sophie finishing in second place.

The most recent regular series aired in autumn, and saw Sam Campbell crowned the winner with Sue Perkins, Susan Wokoma, Julian Clary and Lucy Beaumont making up the rest of the cast.

And now for a brief public safety film.

Counterpoint of a Funeral

Ben Shephard has paid tribute to a former Tipping Point contestant who has died.

Cath made her appearance on the quiz show on 4 April with Shephard revealing afterwards that the former school bus driver had since passed away.

Shephard shared a photo of the two of them on Twitter and wrote: "Today's Tipping Point is a poignant one… since recording the show, lovely contestant Cath, pictured backstage here, has passed away.

"Our thoughts and love are with her family and friends."

Cath's granddaughter Kadie wrote in response: "Thank you for your kind words for my nan, she was so excited that she got to meet you."

The official Tipping Point Twitter account also shared a tribute to the contestant: "After the recording of today's programme, we spoke with Cath’s family who shared the sad news of Cath's passing. Everyone at Tipping Point would like to extend their sincerest sympathies."

Various other viewers also responded to the news by sharing tributes to Cath.

I Saw The Sign

Tonight, a locally filmed game show will hit the big screen — and its creators will celebrate some historic achievements.

The premiere event, to be held at the Lindsay Theater in Sewickley, will spotlight “SignTasTic!,” a Pittsburgh-filmed game show that incorporates American Sign Language (ASL) to appeal to both hearing and Deaf communities. It’s also the first American game show to feature a Deaf host, Dan Cook.

Cook, who also created the show, said the idea initially took form as a card game to make teaching ASL more engaging for students. When approached by a friend to make a show teaching ASL, the idea transformed into a full-fledged game show.

“We both thought that it was not fair that other TV channels [are focused on] diversity … but there is no channel for Deaf people,” Cook says.

This desire led to the creation of Silent Visual Media, a company aimed at bridging the gap between Deaf and hearing communities in media. “SignTasTic!” is one of their first major projects.

In “SignTasTic!,” contestants are given 50 words in ASL to learn, and then are expected to use and respond to them throughout various segments to earn cash prizes. For viewers at home who aren’t fluent in ASL, graphics on screen will help them follow along.

The show incorporates hearing contestants and crew alongside Deaf performers, which caused some communication difficulties early on in the filming process. But by the end, the team formed a tight bond and were reluctant to stop filming.

“I want people to be pulled into the Deaf community in a fun way, so we can all share our experiences,” Cook says. “My hope is that SignTasTic! can help establish relationships and pave the way for Deaf people and hearing people to collaborate together and make awesome entertainment”.

“SignTasTic!” has been picked up by VSYN+, a recently launched streaming service for signed languages, where new episodes will air weekly.

Tickets for tonight’s event are still available — but selling quickly.
