Let's start with a time warp back through the American Idol experience. Remember?

Dance save and a beauty

Dancing With the Stars did away with its judges’ save, with little fanfare, during Season 32 — and now we know why it was missing.

Speaking at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour, executive producer Deena Katz told TVLine that the judges’ save — which had been in place since Season 28 — was, at least in the eyes of Dancing‘s creative team, diminishing the impact of viewers’ votes.

“I think it should be about America,” Katz said. “And at the end of the day, the judges’ save sometimes isn’t what America wanted. And [eliminations are based on] half the judges and half America voting, and so that’s kind of the reason we did it.”

When the judges’ save was taken away at the start of Season 32, a rep for ABC told TVLine it could return at some point. But the entire cycle ultimately came and went without a reinstatement of the rule, and Katz remarked, “I don’t know if we’re bringing it back” for future episodes.

The save allowed judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough, Bruno Tonioli and the late Len Goodman to decide which couple in the Bottom Two or Bottom Three would ultimately leave the competition. After Bobby Bones’ controversial victory in Season 27 — he won the Mirrorball trophy despite noticeably weak performances and significantly lower scores than his fellow contestants — the save was introduced for Season 28 and had been a staple of each subsequent cycle until Season 32.

Let's Start....the Nigerian Family Feud!

In a showcase of familial cohesion, the live premiere of Family Feud season 2 unfolded at Ultima Studios, Lekki, Lagos, recently.

The globally acclaimed family-oriented game show, on air since November of the preceding year, brought together a distinguished audience of media executives and select guests for an immersive experience.

The focal point of the screening party revolved around the Face-Off, Main Game, and Fast Money Rounds of the game show, featuring the Mbagwu and Adewale families. The ambience was elevated by the accompaniment of lively music, exquisite finger food, and refreshing beverages, creating an engaging setting for guests to relish pivotal moments from the second season. Noteworthy was the screening of the first episode, showcasing a fierce clash between the Adebayo and Olori families, culminating in an unprecedented victory for the Adebayos.

valentine's day is over but not without something we left out. One hidden camera from the archives unearthed this footage and...........well...........you watch.

Unclear Floor Stains

THERE’S a moment in most TV stars’ careers when everything they touch turns to gold . . . then they hit a patch where everything they touch turns to something much less savoury.

Just ask This Morning co-host Alison Hammond, who may have bagged herself the presenting role on Channel 4’s Great British Bake Off and ITV’s For The Love Of Dogs, but has had less luck on the BBC.

I can reveal the pilot she did for the channel’s new dance show, Clear The Dancefloor, won’t be getting made into a full series.

The news comes just months after Beeb gameshow I Can See Your Voice, in which she starred, was also axed.

A TV insider said: “This will be gutting for Alison, as getting an ongoing gig on the Beeb is seen as many a presenter’s ultimate goal.

“There were high hopes for Clear The Dance-floor as it seemed to tap into the same energy as Strictly, which she appeared on in 2014. But she won’t be short of work this year anyway.”

The series was to feature amateur dancers competing against each other, with a celebrity panel judging their efforts.

It’s not the first time Alison has faced disappointment like this, however.

In 2020 she made a pilot for a reboot of ITV's Wheel Of Fortune, but the job later went to Graham Norton.

Thankfully, along with For The Love Of Dogs and Bake Off, she’s also one of the panellists on new Sky show Smart TV.

I'd like to know.....

Why is this news?

Edward Oldfield, 45, has been featured on shows like Come Dine With Me, The 1% Club, Dickinson's’ Real Deal, Britain's Got Talent and Tipping Point.

But he's never won any money and has only ever come home with a prescription of fake pills, a Steph’s Packed Lunch mug and an Elephant costume.

The cafe worker said: "I don't know why I've never won - I think it's just bad luck.

"There's been times where I've been so close and I've been able to smell the money, but never won it.

"I've been doing this for ten years, sometimes I wonder if I give up but then I think it might be just around the corner."

Edward's TV career started in 2001 when he went on The Weakest Link and then he later appeared on Come Dine with Me.

That episode was voted the funniest one in the history of the show and it's the only one where presenter Dave Lamb swore.

He then got asked to go on Tipping Point and since then, he's been on over 50 shows which have been broadcast to over three million viewers in over 150 countries.

Edward said: "I got an email asking if I was interested in going on Tipping Point and I thought why not because you can win money on it and meet a few new people.

"I don't know what happened next, every time the phone rang it was another program or I was getting an email from people.

"I've done 50 television shows, which is just incredible.

"Where in the world could you go and get paid to be as silly and funny as you want to be?

"The only place is TV - you can speak to your mind and act like a child again."

Edward, who has been married to wife Emma for 14 years, even performed as a stand-up comedian on Britain's Got Talent in 2016 and 2017.

Even though he didn't get through the first round both times, he said Stephen Mulhern was 'wonderful' and 'gave him a pep talk' off camera.

Edward, of Blackpool, Lancs,. said: "Stephen Mulhern followed me out into the corridor after we did a shoot for Britain's Got More Talent.

"I asked him if I should take a hint because this was the second time round but he told me I was funny and that the judges don't always get it right.

"He told me to not give up and I thought he was a wonderful guy.

"He didn't need to follow me into the corridor and give me a pep talk as it was all off camera."

Edward also appeared on Channel 4 show 'The Surjury' - where he starred as the front man of a jury who decided if people should have plastic surgery.

The late Caroline Flack presented the show and Edward described her as someone who was "always very nice" and who would often text him.

He said: "She was always very nice and would text me and ask about my children.

"Some of these people are so famous but so lovely.

"I find that the more famous someone is, the more lovely they are.

"She asked me if I watched Love Island, I told her it wasn't really my thing and she told me to watch the next series.

"She asked me again if I did had watched that series and I remember joking with her about it."

Even though Edward, who is dad to Jack, 13, and Charles, 11, has been on the majority of British TV shows - he has never been on BBC's Bargain Hunt.

But he hopes to go on the show one day, as he thinks it would be "such a laugh" and the "sort of show he should be going on".

Edward said: "I think Bargain Hunt would be great fun - it would be such a laugh.

"I'm not really good at winning money but Bargain Hunt is all about losing money.

"I don't think anyone ever makes any money on there, it's about who has lost the least money.

"I think this is the sort of show that I should be going on.

But we're lucky to have somebody here. It's Lauren Jordan with a love song.

Closing Theme

#TodayILearned that appearing on 50 game shows would've gotten you tons of Turtle Wax, Rice A Roni and Lee's Press on Nails in your mailbox. weird time back then, huh?
