Strike Watch.

The writers strike reached the four-month mark on Saturday, and as Hot Labor Summer moves to autumn, there is still no sign that it will be over any time soon.

The Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers have not talked in two weeks. Both maintain that the ball is in the other's court.

Far from resolving the strike, the parties face a delicate challenge of finding their way back into the negotiating room. The WGA is open to talking, but has let the AMPTP make the first move. The AMPTP could invite the writers back — as it did on Aug. 1 — but it has nothing new to offer.

"Obviously we're not backing down," said one writer. "They're going to have to come up with something."

On the studio side, there is continuing frustration that the writers have not made bigger concessions. The AMPTP made proposals on Aug. 11 in several areas that it had previously refused to discuss, including a second step for original screenplays, access to viewership data, and a showrunner option to hire at least two writers per show. In its Aug. 15 response, the WGA came down slightly on some numbers, but largely held to its original positions. The management side believes a further move on its part would amount to little more than "negotiating against ourselves."

"The Writers Guild isn't giving the studios much of an opportunity to find a solution," said one studio-side labor veteran. "It's one thing to say, 'OK, let's find a way to get this done.' But it takes two to tango."

In the absence of talks, both sides have nurtured hopes that the other side would break ranks under the pressure, which thus far have not panned out.

Some writers have expressed a certain restlessness, especially as Labor Day has arrived with little hope of salvaging scripted series for the 2023-24 network television season. WGA members have not received an update from the union for more than a week, leaving many with little sense of where things stand in the negotiatons.

Yet the WGA membership has remained far more united than in the 2007-08 strike, when the level of solidarity was weakening by the time the strike ended on its 100th day.

More developments...
- The financial impact of ongoing actors and writers strikes has a number on it now, or one at least, as Warner Bros. Discovery said today it's looking at a hit of $300 million to $500 million in adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) for 2023 due to the work stoppages. In a filing this morning with the Securities and Exchange Commission, WBD said "it is expecting lower adjusted EBITDA for the full year in the range of $10.5 to $11 billion, reflecting the company's assumption that adjusted EBITDA will be negatively impacted by approximately $300 to $500 million, predominantly due to the impact of the strikes."
- SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher didn't hold back Wednesday in a new interview with NPR, calling out studio bosses "making $78,000 a day" who nevertheless say the entertainment industry doesn't have the money to meet the demands of striking actors and writers. "Please do not plead poverty to me. Just make a good deal," Drescher told NPR's Ailsa Chang.
The Writers Guild and SAG-AFTRA will rally on Thursday at Amazon Studio in Culver City to highlight their push a bill that would provide unemployment insurance to striking workers in California. Striking writers and actors in New York and New Jersey are already eligible to receive unemployment benefits after 14 days on the picket line, but not in California. Senate Bill 799, if it makes it through the Legislature and is signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom, would change that. It passed through the Assembly Insurance Committee last week and the Legislature has until September 14 to send it to the governor's desk for signature.

We have a Game Show Live! follow along on Raid the Cage.

CBS announced today that actor and comedian Damon Wayans Jr. will host the action-packed new game show RAID THE CAGE, premiering on Friday, Oct. 13 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT), on the CBS Television Network and streaming on Paramount+* (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs).

In addition to hosting, Wayans Jr. also serves as an executive producer of the series.

Emmy winner Jeannie Mai Jenkins joins Wayans Jr. as co-host of the fresh take on a format that has thrilled viewers in over 15 countries internationally. Together, the duo brings an infectious chemistry to the series, where the goal is to get in, get out and get rich. Strategy, teamwork and nerve are key to winning big in RAID THE CAGE.

In the new game show, two teams of two face off to grab-and-go prizes from the Cage before their time runs out and the doors close. Correctly answering trivia questions adds seconds to the clock, giving teammates more time to grab prizes ranging from cool trips to electronics and even a new car! After three lively rounds, the team that banks the highest total dollar value in prizes wins the game, keeps what they grabbed and plays the final round to try and "Beat the Cage" for the biggest prizes of the night.

Based on the Israeli format owned by United Studios, RAID THE CAGE is produced and distributed globally by Sony Pictures Television (SPT). Jack Martin is the showrunner and executive producer. Damon Wayans Jr. is an executive producer. Ves D'Elia and Heath Luman are co-executive producers.

Another set of singles are entering the pods hoping to meet the love of their life. This time, in Houston.

Netflix released a trailer for Season 5 of the dating series Love Is Blind on Thursday, which promises all the typical heightened emotions, wary families, and cold feet that the reality show is known for. The streamer is calling this the "most shocking season yet" as the singles are set to face some unexpected surprises.

THe trailer linked below accompanies the cast announcement that Netflix released on Wednesday, which gives a glimpse at all 28 singles who will be entering the pods in Season 5.

Love Is Blind Season 5 will debut on September 22 with four episodes. From there, new episodes will be available every Friday through October 13. Here's how they'll be broken down:
- Week 1, September 22: Episodes 1-4
- Week 2, September 29: Episodes 5-7
- Week 3, October 6: Episodes 8-9
- Week 4, October 13: Episode 10 (weddings)
Earlier this month, Netflix released three episodes of Love Is Blind: After the Altar to catch up with the Season 4 couples and some other familiar faces from the Seattle bunch. While nothing totally major happened, it looks like all the couples are still together — including Jackie and Josh. After an emotional conversation, Micah and Paul (who had still been talking regularly, despite trying to move on from one another) finally decided it would be best to put some metaphorical distance between them. Those episodes are available to stream now.

Love Is Blind and After the Altar are produced by Kinetic Content. Chris Coelen, Ally Simpson, Eric Detwiler, Kimberly Goodman, and Heather Crowe serve as executive producers.

Here's a different slam dunk for you.....

RuPaul's Drag Race UK Judge and Interior Design Masters Presenter, funny man Alan Carr hosts Picture Slam, a fun and fast-paced quiz where every question is a picture and every picture is worth cash. They could be anything from famous faces and places to brands and logos, films and TV shows, toys and animals or things you buy in the supermarket. In this quiz, the teams need to know something about everything to get that all important Picture Slam!

Picture Slam is the play along game that asks do you know your Eiffel Tower from your Blackpool Tower? Your Victoria Beckham from your Victoria Sponge and your Buckingham Palace from your Crystal Palace?

In each round, the three teams consisting of two contestants will be presented with a board full of pictures, each picture from a different subject, they need to correctly identify them against the clock. If they clear a full board with correct answers for a 'Picture Slam' they'll receive a cash bonus. Only the team who makes it to the final, in a challenging test of the breadth of their knowledge, will take home any of their banked cash and, if they can correctly name all the required pictures, they'll take home the £10,000 jackpot!

Okay folks and friends, it's Mistplay Game Break time. Let's play

True......

http://tpirepguide.com/qwizx/gssfx/usa/sweep-ding.wav

Or False.

http://tpirepguide.com/qwizx/gssfx/usa/sweep-wrong.wav

The Television was invented in America. Is that true or false? While you're pondering, let's have a bit of Rachel Lipsky for you in the Spotify Soundstage.

So I asked you, did America invent the TV? Well, it's..............

Facsimile transmission systems for still photographs pioneered methods of mechanical scanning of images in the early 19th century. Alexander Bain introduced the facsimile machine between 1843 and 1846. Frederick Bakewell demonstrated a working laboratory version in 1851.[citation needed] Willoughby Smith discovered the photoconductivity of the element selenium in 1873. As a 23-year-old German university student, Paul Julius Gottlieb Nipkow proposed and patented the Nipkow disk in 1884 in Berlin.[12] This was a spinning disk with a spiral pattern of holes in it, so each hole scanned a line of the image. Although he never built a working model of the system, variations of Nipkow's spinning-disk "image rasterizer" became exceedingly common.[13] Constantin Perskyi had coined the word television in a paper read to the International Electricity Congress at the International World Fair in Paris on 24 August 1900. Perskyi's paper reviewed the existing electromechanical technologies, mentioning the work of Nipkow and others.[14] However, it was not until 1907 that developments in amplification tube technology by Lee de Forest and Arthur Korn, among others, made the design practical.[15]

I want you go to back to 2008, the year Obama named president. America's got Talent was at an all-time high and so did Dancing With The Stars. CBS decided why not both? And here was the finished product.

The result: Secret Talents of The Stars.

For the next 7 weeks, stars from all walks of life did something they'd wouldn't do on TV for pride and respect. This was the roster.

CelebrityOccupationSecret Talent
Clint Blackcountry singer-songwriterperforming comedy

George Takeiformer Star Trek actorcrooning as a country singer
Malcolm-Jamal Warnerformer Cosby Show actorperforming an original song on bass guitar as part of a hip hop orchestra
Kind of an interesting lineup but Premiere week came and this happened.

During the single April 8, 2008, episode, the judges uniformly expressed their preference for the performances of Mýa and Clint Black. However, the audience votes advanced Sasha Cohen and Clint Black while sending Mýa and George Takei home.

After Takei performed, Polone joked that he looked like one of the main characters in Brokeback Mountain, the Oscar-nominated film about two gay cowboys. Takei, who is openly gay, mustered a smile during the live broadcast, but in a later interview with Entertainment Tonight, he admitted to being offended. Polone did not apologize for his words.[3]

One episode down and the aftermath was this:

In comparison, the notorious flop Quarterlife, which had also been canceled after one episode by NBC several weeks earlier, had a 3.1 rating in the 10 p.m. time slot, where fewer networks broadcast. CBS then decided not to make the remaining six episodes.

That joins ABC's Turn-On way back in 1969, Osbournes Reloaded and You're in The Picture starring jackie Gleason among others as the only TV shows out of here after one program. That goes to show we won't we seeing Kaye Adams breaking dancing any time soon.

Closing Theme

That's it for this week, today's consolation prize is a singing Lobstergram. Order your favorite lobster, and once you get the door, some Broadway star will sing to find out what you ordered. May or may not be senseitive to people with ears.
