Welcome boys and girls and goonies to yet another......

We are live on location here for the inaugural Monster mini golf classic to take place in October at the location that once occupied an abandoned Scnucks supermarket. As you can tell, it's in the process of hiring more people to distract, scare and taunt pro mini golfers in search of that $10,000 top prize. But I'm not here for a job interview, I'm here to give you the headlines, so we start with.....

The  Talking Through The Medias opening toss up story.

It was 1972. People didn't have a gazillion channels, local news every hour or renting videos from Blockbuster, but.....

The glitz. The glamour. The gimmicks.

Few television game shows are as instantly recognizable as The Price Is Right. For decades, Bob Barker welcomed guests onto the show, inviting them to "come on down" for a chance to win cash and fabulous prizes. The TV legend made his debut on Sept. 4, 1972, however he wasn't the first man to host The Price Is Right.

The Price is Right debuted on Nov. 26, 1956, as part of NBC's daytime lineup. The original host was Bill Cullen, a former radio personality who also helmed such popular game shows as Name That Tune and To Tell the Truth. With its unique gameplay style, in which contestants placed their bids on retail items, The Price Is Right became a hit. NBC began airing a weekly primetime version of the show and continued to do so until the series was picked up by ABC in 1963. The Price Is Right called ABC home for two seasons, airing its final episode on Sept. 3, 1965.

The team at production company Goodson-Todman sought to bring The Price Is Right back to the airwaves in the early '70s, however, they faced a challenge -- newer shows like Let's Make a Deal had cornered the market on the bid-or-pass format. To update the program, The Price Is Right's producers created dazzling sets perfect for Technicolor and switched up the formatting of the show's contests, making it less of a quiz show to a high-energy game show. Smithsonian Magazine notes that the new version of The Price Is Right "felt like a Las Vegas revue—especially once the gorgeous models started to appear, thrilled to show off the prizes and crack wise with the show's host."

As producers prepared to bring The Price Is Right back to television, they mulled their options for a host. Cullen, the show's original presenter, was hesitant to move to the West Coast. Goodson-Todman initially tapped Let's Make a Deal's Dennis James to step behind the mic for The Price is Right's revamped run, however when a syndicated daytime version of the series was ordered by CBS, the network suggested someone new. Bob Barker had already made a name for himself in showbiz, hosting the popular "Bob Barker Radio Show" for Los Angeles radio station KWIK before stepping behind the camera as the host of Truth or Consequences in 1956. Barker had CBS' blessing to become the host of The Price is Right and on Sept. 4, 1972 television history was made when the first episode of the game show aired.

Barker would go on to host The Price is Right until his retirement in 2007, an incredible run which lasted for 35 seasons. During his tenure, The Price is Right became an institution and one of the most beloved game shows in television history. Barker was a 14-time winner of the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Game Show Host, took home an additional four Daytime Emmys as one of The Price Is Right's producers and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Television Academy in 1999. The show's famous Hollywood location was renamed the Bob Barker Studio in 1998 in honor of the famous host's 5,000th show. Comedian Drew Carey assumed hosting duties following Barker's retirement. The Price Is Right continued to be filmed in the Bob Barker Studio until 2023, when it moved to a new, modern location.

As The Price Is Right began its historic run on CBS, two more game shows - each with its own story to tell - also debuted.

Jack Barry, all but blackballed from the industry since his involvement in the Quiz Show Scandals of the 1950s, spent years laboring behind the scenes before selling "The Joker's Wild" to CBS in 1972 after two failed pilots. The format made his company millions, especially when it was revived for syndication five years later.

Elsewhere, CBS went with a relatively fresh face for another new format - Merrill Heatter & Bob Quigley's Gambit with Wink Martindale. It was one of the first attempts to bring blackjack to television coupled with a quiz format. It was revived straight once for NBC as Las Vegas Gambit in the 1980s and gained a spiritual successor in Game Show Network hit Catch 21.

This big old clown is scaring me. Let's take a break before they put me in a dentist's chair for 12 hours.

Oh hi, I arrived at the Snack Bar where all the mini golfers are not allowed to leave until all the golfers have played their round. Heard a buffet from Jet's Pizza will be in town as does some vegan food, but I want to talk about today's sponsor. It is 7 Brew coffee. What if Starbucks decided to scrap the dine in and curbside for just drive in and that's it? Well, 7 Brew Coffee has it. Starbucks has a Pumpkin Spice latte but 7 Brew has.....The 7 originals. So jump in your car and get to 7 Brew today. It's better than sitting around reading the paper at Starbucks.

Since we didn't do it last week due to the Bob Barker tribute, let's just do....

Podcasts......you should listen to.

Your recommendation for today is......................

3 or in most cases, 4 gen x-ers from one of my favorite places in the world, Atlanta, GA. come in here and talk pop culture. But there's more than just a weekly show on the week it was in pop culture. They wax nostalgic onto the topic of the week at hand and go down rabbit holes as to why with audio clips to accompany the matter. Some episodes also feature interviews with the stars of film and TV realm and in addition, they break down reviews of recent TV and movie fare as well as episodes of a certain program. This is why you should all listen and learn thanks to this podcast. There's a YouTube version to see all 3 or 4 hosts on video but elsewhere, it's on Spotify, iheartradio or anywhere else for the audio only thing.

Stop bothering with those paid streaming apps and listen up.

Another month, another round of Pluto TV releases to get excited about. September is an especially great one for Pluto TV watchers.

When it comes to streaming, things are getting more and more expensive. Whether it's part of a package or just something you want to see, you don't have to worry about any of that with Pluto.

If anything, you'll get the most bang for your buck and it'll feel like you're still paying for cable which is a novelty these days. The streamer reached out to us with a look at some of its September releases and there are a lot of fun and interesting ones to try out this month.

With that being said, let's get into some of the highlights including a new channel for those who are craving some good competition.

"More TV Game Shows," which is exactly as it sounds, is about more game shows and more fun including the shows already featured and even, some new additions including 25 Words or Less and Pictionary. It serves as a compliment to the original Game Shows Channel, which airs such fare as Supermarket Sweep.

The move comes as the FAST streamer begins its launch across Europe and Latin America thanks to an agreement with Philips.

The Great British Baking Show" will not continue its country-themed challenges.

In a recent interview with the Guardian, "Great British Baking Show" producer Kieran Smith noted that changes were made following criticism from culturally insensitive theme weeks in previous seasons.

"We didn't want to offend anyone but the world has changed and the joke fell flat," he said of Season 13's "Mexican Week." We're not doing any national themes this year."

In October 2022, "The Great British Baking Show" faced backlash over its Mexican-themed challenge, in which hosts Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding donned sombreros and serapes while uttering comments that reinforced harmful stereotypes. The show faced a similar debacle with Season 11's "Japanese Week."

"We're doing all the regular weeks: cakes, biscuits, bread, patisserie, chocolate, plus party cakes is a new theme," Smith added about the upcoming season. "No spoilers, but it features challenges I think viewers will love."

"We chose this year's challenges very carefully to be approachable," said judge Paul Hollywood. "In a way, we've returned to the philosophy of the first three series. There are some beautiful classic ones and they've been a big success."

ITV presenter Alison Hammond has joined "The Great British Baking Show" as its new co-host, replacing Matt Lucas after three seasons on the show. She's the first person of color to serve as a host on the baking competition show, which launched in 2010.

The new season of "The Great British Baking Show" premieres this fall on the U.K.'s Channel 4 before dropping on Netflix.

Mattel Television's Pictionary, hosted by Jerry O'Connell, returns for its highly anticipated second season on September 11, 2023. The nationally syndicated game show is based on the beloved game of quick sketches and hilarious guesses by Mattel, leading global toy company and owner of one of the strongest catalogs of children's and family entertainment franchises in the world. The broadcast version of Pictionary follows the same rules as the at-home play.

In the show, celebrity captains lead two teams of three players as they draw clues for their teammates to guess the winning words or phrases. One player from each team will take turns drawing images that depict a word from a specific category, in an effort to help their teammates guess the correct word. The grand prize winners will receive $2,000 and a vacation to an exotic destination, plus go home with Pictionary's new game, Pictionary Air 2. Laughs and excitement abound with a mix of new and returning celebrity captains, including Jojo Siwa, Raven-Symoné, Rebecca Romijn, Corbin Bleu, Ricki Lake, Loni Love, Jaleel White, Carson Kressley, Kevin Nealon, and many more.

"I am thrilled to be hosting the second season of Pictionary," said O'Connell. "Being a part of this tradition that unites people through creativity and laughter is truly amazing. Brace yourself for an exciting journey with new celebrity captains, amusing guesses, and suspenseful moments as we revive this beloved game."

TV's game of musical chairs is still going strong, with Fox and The CW both shifting shows around their fall schedules.

Fox will air repeats of 9-1-1: Lone Star Tuesdays at 9/8c this fall, starting Sept. 19. That replaces reality series I Can See Your Voice, which will now return for its third season at midseason.

Over at The CW, Season 3 of FBoy Island — featuring former Bachelorette Katie Thurston — will now debut Monday, Oct. 16 at 8/7c with a special two-hour premiere. It swaps places with The CW's comedy lineup of Son of a Critch, Run the Burbs, Children Ruin Everything and Everyone Else Burns, which will air on Thursdays beginning Oct. 19. (A possible reason for the swap: ABC's The Golden Bachelor, which recently moved from Mondays to Thursdays this fall. With this shift, FBoy Island avoids being in direct competition with a similar reality dating competition.)

9-1-1: Lone Star, starring Rob Lowe and Gina Torres, is set to return for a fifth season on Fox, but no premiere date has been set yet amid the ongoing Hollywood writers and actors strikes. (The original 9-1-1, meanwhile, is moving from Fox to ABC for Season 7.)

FBoy Island, which aired for two seasons on Max before moving to The CW, sees three women choosing from a bevy of men that are either "Nice Guys" or "FBoys," with both love and money on the line.

And we got a Mistplay Game Break for you. What's in Common?

An Airplane, acrobatic wrestlers and The Falcon

Think about it after we let Jessica Magoch in the Spotify Soundstage because we waited so long for the new single to come on the blog..... and here it is. I think I'll practice on the course for the pro-am classic.

(Pierre gets ball in the 18th hole)

Yes! And how good you were on the answer to this common link. It is.......

That's because The Falcon has good mileage without Captain America.

All September long, we're peeking into the life of a YouTuber and former cast member named....Skipper Meghan. I wonder what she's talking about.......

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It seems that Switch is the wacky, silly Keystone Kops style trivia clash in which getting to the top seems easy....but it's not. Jeff Hepner is playing square dance caller to this line dance where after every question.....you know what happens. So we put together a mixtape of Jeff saying the magic word. You know what time it is.
