Strike Watch.

On a day of union national solidarity for the writers guild and the actors union, the AMPTP tonight suddenly released details of what they call a "comprehensive package" to address scribes' concerns.

Almost two weeks old, the August 11 tabled proposal offers details on residuals, AI, writers' rooms, and perhaps most strikingly a new attitude toward transparency in metrics from the streamers. In terms of cold hard cash, the AMPTP are exclaiming that this is an "offer that represents the highest wage increase for writers in 35 years."

This evening's unexpected release by the AMPTP follows a meeting that just wrapped tonight between WGA leadership, AMPTP leadership and several studio CEOs, we hear. It was an opportunity for the CEOs to directly tell the WGA leadership how they felt they were putting their best foot forward with their latest proposal to end the strike. Among those speaking with the WGA brass were Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos, Disney boss Bob Iger, Warner Bros Discovery chief David Zaslav as well as Universal Chairman Filmed Entertainment Group Donna Langley, sources tell Deadline, who is reporting that the two sides will meet again.

In the meantime, a potential sea change of sorts seems to be occurring when it comes to the digital metrics.

The studios and streamers are offering the WGA "increased data transparency" which will be comprised of "viewership data in the form of quarterly confidential reports," provided to the guild. Such reports will include "total SVOD view hours per title." As in any final deal, the devil will be in the details, but right now it looks like the AMPTP have at least blinked a bit on what was such a major obstacle to a new contract. "This increased transparency will enable the WGA to develop proposals to restructure the current SVOD residual regime in the future," per the AMPTP's amped up release tonight.

Clearly a tactical shift by the studios on the guild to reveal these offers now, the AMPTP's proposals does for the first time offer some degree of minimum staffing for writers' rooms, which has been a major strike issue. "This new package substantially improves upon the AMPTP's prior proposals," the AMPTP said. "The comprehensive package also features first-of-their-kind offers for writers, including unprecedented terms in the areas of Generative Artificial Intelligence, data transparency and minimum staffing."

After talks ended in early May and the guild called its first strike in 15 years, the AMPTP did not respond the WGA's requests for more negotiations. As the AMPTP found themselves at the losing end of the PR war, amidst pressure from studio and streamer CEOs and some back channeling, AMPTP boss Carol Lombardini reached out to the WGA leadership with an offer to meet. The parties returned to the bargaining table for the first time on August. 11 — 102 days into the strike.

More developments...
- The Writers Guild of America West has released its latest antitrust report, which warns that the ongoing consolidation of Hollywood will lead to Disney, Netflix and Amazon becoming the "new gatekeepers" of the entertainment industry, to the detriment of creative talent. "Deregulation and mergers have laid the groundwork for a future of increased market power that could soon leave just three companies controlling what content is made, what consumers can watch, and how they can watch it," the guild warned.
- The Writers Guild of America responded on Tuesday to the latest proposal from the studios, as the sides continue to try to resolve the three-month old writers' strike. While the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers has made some concessions, including agreeing to provide streaming viewership data, the studio group has not agreed to a key WGA demand for a minimum staff size for TV writers rooms. The AMPTP at first refused to even consider the idea. But in its latest proposal, it offered to give showrunners flexibility to hire a certain number of writers, depending on the budget of the show. The WGA, meanwhile, has continued to make clear that it wants a fixed minimum staff size for all shows.
- In a shot across the bow of the giant media companies that it's negotiating with to end its 108-day-old strike, the WGA West released a report today that calls for more government regulation of what it calls the "anti-competitive practices" of Disney, Amazon and Netflix, which it accuses of "abusing their dominance to further disadvantage competitors, raise prices for consumers, and push down wages for the creative workforce."
- The New York Film and Television Union Coalition is praising a pair of identical bills pending in New York State that would "prohibit applicants to the Empire State film production credit from using artificial intelligence that would displace any natural person in their productions." The coalition is made up of SAG-AGTRA, the WGA East, the Directors Guild of America, the Cinematographers Guild (IATSE Local 600), the Editors Guild (IATSE Local 700), United Scenic Artists (IATSE Local 829), IATSE Local 52, and Teamsters Local 817.
- The Entertainment Community Fund has raised more than $7 million and distributed $4.7 million-plus to more than 2,300 film and TV workers as of Friday during the strikes by the Writers Guild and SAG-AFTRA. The WGA's strike began May 2 and SAG-AFTRA's started July 14.
- "Hellboy" actor Ron Perlman fired up cross-industry laborers on strike at the SAG-AFTRA and WGA Day of Union Solidarity rally in Burbank Tuesday, giving a passionate speech that called the Hollywood studios back to the negotiating table. "Let us tell you how much we appreciate you for the resources you've given us to do our thing, and you motherf–kers tell us how much you appreciate us for giving you your bottom line," he quipped. "Enough is enough," Perlman said. "No matter how much you motherf–kers get, it's never gonna be enough. So come back to the table. Throw your arms around us."

Brazilian broadcaster Globo is preparing a Portuguese-language version of hit South Korean entertainment format My Boyfriend is Better.

Set to premiere on September 17 as a segment on Sunday afternoon gameshow Pipoca da Ivete, it will be presented by singer-songwriter Ivete Sangalo.

The deal was announced by South Korean entertainment company CJ ENM, which owns the rights to the format.

Originally broadcast on CJ ENM-owned pay TV music channel Mnet in Korea, My Boyfriend is Better is a gambling-based format in which female participants bet on the singing talents of their boyfriends.

"Our partnership with TV Globo, one of Brazil's leading broadcasting networks, marks a significant milestone and we are eager to extend this opportunity to Latin America," said Diane Min, head of format sales at CJ ENM.

"We firmly believe the show's distinctive elements will captivate viewers around the globe."

Creso Eduardo, artistic director at Globo, added: "Shows like My Boyfriend is Better are very attractive to Brazilian audiences, and bringing an unseen format also creates a huge expectation on how the couples will deal with the game."

Sammy Hagar couldn't drive 55, but these people did.

We did it, folks. After nine weeks of auditions, plus two clip shows, we finally know which 55 acts will be competing in the live episodes of America's Got Talent Season 18.

Prior to tonight, only this season's seven Golden Buzzer winners — dance groups Chibi Unity and Murmuration; Chioma and the Atlanta Drum Academy; the Mzsani Youth Choir; and singers Gabriel Henrique, Lavender Darcangelo and Putri Ariani — were guaranteed a spot in the live shows. And given the show's track record for Golden Buzzer recipients winning the whole shebang, these seven acts are definitely the ones to beat this season.

Those seven acts are now joined by 48 other hopefuls, whom the judges — Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Sofia Vergara — narrowed down from the countless auditions they saw this season. And with 18 full hours of try-outs in our rearview, we do mean countless.

This is the part of the season where things get real. Not only are these 55 acts now competing for America's votes, but NBC is also doubling up on AGT, giving us two hours of performances on Tuesdays (8/7c) and one hour of results on Wednesdays (also 8/7c).

90 seconds to talk about lost media in game shows starting from......

Lost media is slowly becoming a lost art. All the Match game 1990 reruns were on Buzzr before but has yet to show the whole run because GSN had already seen them. What about all the MTV game shows? Well, the ones from the 80s and 90s yet to be on Pluto TV or Paramount Plus but has to clear copyright issues and such. Theh there's the Heatter Quigley library and the Century Towers library. Pluto TV has Hollywood Squares for Bergeron but not the Whoppi era version. I would bet Max would do reruns of Fun House somewhere. The only lost media I know is on Youtube, Dailymotion, Vimeo......and that's about it. But it's yet to get more digitized. Look at TPIR Barker Era. There's also Plex doing well with Game TV's free service and Game Show Central has yet to show anything they haven't aired like Hollywood Showdown and DJ Games. But as long as the calendar flips months to something fans clamor, I'd be down for Tiny Toon Adventures as a stand alone Youtube channel so kids of the 90's would relive an old friend.
