The  Talking Through The Medias opening toss up story.

The dreaded post-merger Warner Bros Discovery layoffs have reached the programming operation overseen by HBO and HBO Max Chief Content Officer Casey Bloys. Overall, 14% of staff — about 70 people — are being laid off Monday, the vast majority of them on the Max side. That includes in Max Non-Fiction Originals, International, Acquisitions, Casting and previously reported Live-Action Family Originals, which are all being either scaled back significantly or essentially eliminated, leading to the departure of the bulk of the the staffs, led by Jennifer O'Connell EVP, Non-Fiction & Live-Action Family Originals for HBO Max; Jennifer Kim, SVP, International Originals for HBO Max; Michael Quigley, EVP of Content Acquisitions at HBO Max; and Linda Lowy, EVP Casting for WarnerMedia's HBO Max, TNT, TBS and truTV.

The cuts of Max Original reality, International, Acquisitions and Casting are not surprising. With the pending merger of HBO Max and non-fiction Discovery+ into one platform, HBO Max had already paused new development of unscripted series. O'Connell's other area at HBO Max and Live-Action Family Originals also recently was put on hold.

Going forward, existing Max unscripted series will continue or premiere as planned and, if they are performing well, will stay on. There will just be no new development in light of the large volume of non-fiction fare that will come from Discovery+ when the two services are merged next summer.

HBO Max's reality slate includes shows such as Selena + Chef, which has been renewed for a fourth season; FBoy Island, which is airing its second season; and Legendary, which recently premiered its third season. The move will be a blow for the unscripted community as HBO Max was known to pay between $1.5 million-$2 million per episode of some of its unscripted shows, well above Discovery's usual tariffs, which generally go as high as around $500,000 per hour.

HBO Max will remove 36 titles from its service as early as this week. A spokesperson for HBO Max attributed the decision to the pending merge of the platform with Discovery+, which is also owned by Warner Bros. Discovery.

"As we work toward bringing our content catalogs together under one platform, we will be making changes to the content offering available on both HBO Max and discovery+," HBO Max's statement reads. "That will include the removal of some content from both platforms." Taking off the titles from streaming would also help Warner Bros. Discovery cut costs by removing lesser-watched programs to save money on residuals. An exact date or time when the titles will be taken off has not been announced.

Among the shows to be axed are "Ellen's Next Great Designer" and "About Last Night".

It's Offical.

BBC Media Editor and Today host Amol Rajan has been named the next University Challenge host, replacing Jeremy Paxman.

Paxman revealed he is leaving after three decades earlier this week and Rajan, who also presents on BBC Radio 2, The One Show and has an Amol Interviews series, will take over next year in the hotseat of the ITV Studios show. He will step down as BBC Media Editor but continue his other hosting duties.

Based on U.S. format College Bowl, University Challenge involves the brightest students in the country battling it out to answer incredibly difficult questions. Rajan is just the third host on the BBC's longest running show, following in the footsteps of Paxman and Bamber Gascoigne.

"Jeremy leaves a very big chair to fill but Amol's experience, expertise and sense of humour makes him the perfect fit for one of Britain's longest running and toughest quiz shows," said BBC Director of Unscripted Kate Phillips.

Rajan added: "I am very conscious that in the late, great Bamber, and that giant of British culture, Jeremy, I have vast shoes to fill. With his immense intellect, authority, and respect from students and viewers alike, Jeremy hands over a format, and show, as strong as ever."

Food Network icon Bobby Flay is one of the best chefs on the planet and a master in the culinary arena, having spent his life competing at the highest level of cuisine. Now, Bobby has created the toughest culinary competition yet on the new six-episode primetime series Bobby's Triple Threat, premiering Tuesday, September 27th at 9pm ET/PT. In each one-hour episode, one extraordinarily talented and eager chef is challenged to go against the trio of culinary titans handpicked by Bobby himself for a chance to take home $25,000. The stakes couldn't be higher, as Bobby celebrates and tests the most talented chefs in America. This is Bobby's game and Bobby's chefs, and there's only one rule: it's all or nothing. Fans can also watch Bobby's Triple Threat on discovery+, with new episodes available to stream weekly starting September 27th.

At the start of each episode, one competitor enters Bobby's secret kitchen armed with their expertise and drive to take on the culinary titans selected by Bobby - Tiffany Derry, Michael Voltaggio and Brooke Williamson - in three head-to-head rounds. In the first two rounds, Bobby picks the main ingredients that the chefs must emphasize in their dishes, as the competitor selects which titan to face off with. The last round features the competitor picking the ingredients to incorporate, while going against the last remaining titan. All the while, one discerning guest judge blind taste tests the dishes at the end of every round. If the competitor can out-cook the titans and earn more points with their cumulative score, they take home bragging rights over the titans, earning the cash prize.

Added Flay, "I have spent my entire career opening restaurants and battling in the toughest culinary competitions, but on Triple Threat I have the chance to call all the shots, inviting the most talented chefs into my secret kitchen to take on my titans. You want to be the best; you must get through my triple threat."

"Bobby Flay has done it again, bringing his creativity and magnetism to celebrate the most talented chefs on the planet. Viewers will witness next level culinary skills while leaning in to see if Bobby's titans can prevent the competitors from walking away with the grand prize," said Jane Latman, President, Home & Food Content and Streaming, Warner Bros. Discovery.

Bobby's Triple Threat is produced by Rock Shrimp Productions for Food Network & discovery+.

We've been told a new season of Tug of Words is on it's way. However, Ahmad Rashad can't host it because he may have had his hosting style too robotic and annoying. So who's here to take the reigns this season?

Summer Sanders? No.

Todd Harris? No.

Graham Elwood? No.

Steve Saunders? No.

It's because.............

Game Show Network, the leader in game shows and competitive entertainment, has announced Emmy(R) award-winning television host Samantha Harris as host of its quick-moving wordplay game show, TUG OF WORDS. The second season of the half-hour original series is anticipated to premiere fall 2022.

From the producing team behind "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire," TUG OF WORDS is a fast-paced game where two teams compete to answer word clue questions correctly and pull the flag on the "tug of war rope" to their side. In round one, each answer involves changing a single letter in the word that appears on the board. For example, with 'TUG' on the board, the answer to the clue 'a label inside a garment' is 'TAG,' and with 'TAG' then on the board, the answer to the clue 'hopefully the upstairs neighbors aren't learning this dance' is 'TAP.' With each round, an additional letter is added creating four and five letter words to solve. The team with the flag on their side after three rounds wins the game, qualifying them for the bonus round where they have opportunity to compete for $10,000.

Emmy(R) award-winning television host and journalist Samantha Harris is most known to viewers as the co-host of "Dancing with the Stars" for 8 seasons and weekend co-anchor for "Entertainment Tonight." An engaging and experienced host, Harris has also hosted FOX's "The Next Joe Millionaire," "Gordon Ramsay's Culinary Genius," "The Insider," "E! News," and "Extra." Additionally, she has appeared as a guest host on "Access Hollywood Live," "The View," "Daily Blast Live," "Hollywood Today Live," "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?," and "Good Morning America." In her career, Harris co-hosted the official 80th Academy Awards(R) and Critics' Choice Awards(R) red carpet shows. And in 2009 she made her Broadway debut starring as Roxie Hart in the musical Chicago.

In addition to her success in television, Harris is also a bestselling author and a certified health coach and fitness trainer. In 2014, Harris was diagnosed with stage II invasive breast cancer at age 40. Her diagnosis inspired a quest for answers about how to improve overall health, prevent chronic diseases, and understand their underlying causes. Harris' research resulted in the Amazon best-selling book, "Your Healthiest Healthy: 8 Easy Ways to Take Control, Help Prevent and Fight Cancer, and Live a Longer, Cleaner, Happier Life," which translates comprehensive, research-backed knowledge into an easy-to-follow action plan for maximizing health. Harris now lives cancer free with her husband and two daughters and continues to support cancer research through serving as an ambassador for the Susan G Komen Foundation and supporting other organizations including serving as a National Ambassador for American Cancer Society and an Entertainment Council member for Feeding America.

TUG OF WORDS is produced by Embassy Row, LLC for Game Show Network. Michael Davies serves as executive producer. Bari Jean Dorman also serves as executive producer.
