Livewire! 7/8

Hi folks, Pierre Kelly here with another edition of......

The excessive heat here in Pacific Bay allowed the internet to run limited and the newsroom decided to take the rest of the week off. So I'm here at the Phase 10 Catina where this edition of Livewire! is taped. Today's program is presented by new Ultrasonic hearing aids. What you're hearing is what you're just not breathing. As you all know, it's a pretty good afternoon here in Pacific Bay. About close to 102 and enough to fry a few eggs on the street. Before I go get cage eggs for an experiment, let's all.....get wired!

That Figures!

the name “Billy the Answer Head” means anything to you, then perhaps you were watching Nickelodeon on July 7, 1997, when the long-running game show Figure It Out debuted.

In the original version of the show, celebrity panelists would have to deduce a kid contestant’s secret talent or claim to fame, with the answer hidden on the head-shaped game board dubbed Billy. (Of course, if the panelists committed the “Secret Slime Action” faux pax, they’d be drenched in the neon-green ooze that flowed so freely on ’90s-era Nickelodeon!)

Olympic swimmer Summer Sanders hosted the 1997 version of Figure It Out, with Nick faves Lori Beth Denberg, Danny Tamberelli, Kevin Kopelow, Christy Knowings, and Amanda Bynes regularly holding court on the panel. And when Nickelodeon revived the show in 2012, Jeff Sutphen emceed the updated Figure It Out, with Ciara Bravo and Matt Bennett frequently serving as panelists.

When The Saturdays became the Sundays

Actor and TV host Mario Lopez is leading the reconstitution of Menudo, with auditions to begin this month online. Talent between 12 and 16 (which has been Menudo’s traditional age upper-limit) are invited to live auditions in multiple cities, including San Juan, Puerto Rico – where Menudo was first founded – in September.

“Like so many people across the globe, I grew up as a huge Menudo fan,” Lopez said in a statement. “I am so excited and honored to part of bringing this iconic Latin boy band back to the world

!”!”

Lopez will host weekly highlight videos on Menudo streaming platforms while the process plays out over the coming months.

Menudo’s original lineup consisted of five members, made up of two sets of brothers. Through their golden age, the band became a model for boy bands to come – Backstreet Boys, NSYNC and even BTS and One Direction have fallen short of the global sensation that was once Menudo. The band produced solo stars, including Ricky Martin — Menudo’s most popular member during his 1984–1989 run.

The band famously replaced members who would “age out,” allowing Menudo to continue as a preteen sensation throughout the 1980s and ’90s. But scandals, internal squabbling, money issues, drug issues and a host of other problems dogged the group, which officially disbanded in 2009 after attempting a comeback as an MTV reality show that was largely ignored.

The Twitchead of The Month Award!

This month's recipent:  Artinjest. Real name: Brenda Dunn. She's a Canadian who can take a marker and draw at will. Add in a bit of silliness and you have an art streamer that can wake the spirit of Bob Ross up. Here's an example of her in action.

She's a babe and you can call her: Hanna Barbera. Watch her do it in a cottage.

She can even paint too.

Coronation Street Smart

Ahead of the 20th anniversary of “American Idol,” Season 13 champion Caleb Johnson reflected on his coronation song, “As Long as You Love Me,” written by Justin Hawkins. Calling it a “cheesy piece of crap,” he recounted how he tried to fight the show’s producers on performing it.

“I knew that, by de facto, if you won you had to sing the song, and the song was just utter crap. Like, it was just the worst song ever,” he said in a recent interview with Insider, adding that he was “really bummed” by the circumstance.

The rock singer said he “pitched a fit about it to the management company and all this stuff,” but was told to view the winning single “as kind of a graduation present or something.” Johnson grew even more frustrated when he found out that the song was recycled from another “Idol” contestant two years prior. In 2012, “Idols South Africa” runner-up Mark Haze recorded and released a version of “As Long as You Love Me” for his debut album, and in 2014, Johnson was given the same song with slightly different lyrics.

Johnson went on to perform the song for the post-“Idol” summer tour, where he was joined by other finalists. However, it was eventually dropped, he said. “We did [it] at the beginning, but they switched it. They switched it about halfway because it just wasn’t working. It was not working, and it was a nightmare.”

“The label wouldn’t release the single,” he said. “There was no single that came out after the record was done. There was no music video. There was nothing.”

“As Long as You Love Me” charted at No. 42 on the Hot Rock/Alternative Songs chart, where it remained for a week. In its own ranking of “Idol” coronation tracks, Insider said that Johnson’s vocals “just aren’t suited” to the song. The tune also failed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the first in the show’s history to do so.

This ....just in.

Back in March, NBC struck a deal with Talpa/Studio Lambert to adapt the format MILLION DOLLAR ISLAND. It's supersized SURVIVOR with a dash of SQUID GAME: 100 players fighting for cash. The show was announced to press.

It's not moving forward at NBC, I've learned. Wished I'd learn what million dollar island is actually like.

After about a holiday weekend and a ballot box with post it notes. We have reached a consensus. The winner of the golden tap shoes and the cd player and the Skullcandy earbuds goes to..........

Kelsey McGowan. Well done Kelsey! The newsroom thanks you. Our viewers thank you. And I thank my Raycon buds for that noise to drown out

Closing Theme

#todayIlearned that auditioning for the new Take That can take what the Backstreet Boys didn't do: Have somebody with a successful solo album. What else? Aaron Carter on the comeback trail?

That puts the final nail in the box. Be seeing you when this sound is heard:

Then you know it's time for Livewire! Until next time, play on playas.
