 The whatstrending.com Opening Toss-Up story.

While the blog was over yesterday, there was some breaking news that came in. Let's look at it.

And oh, what a shock it was.

Through thumb prints of their "buzzer fingers," a video compilation and multimedia scrapbook, former "Jeopardy!" contestants are creating mass tributes for Alex Trebek, who announced Wednesday that he's battling Stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
Sally Neumann, a mental-health counsellor in Seattle who competed on the hit quiz show in March 2016, said Thursday she's spearheading the projects through a secret "Jeopardy!" contestants Facebook group that has thousands of members.
"I spend a lot of time doing grief counselling for kids in an artistic medium, so I suggested everybody mail me their buzzer fingers — their thumb prints in the mail in various colors in ink — and I'm going to cut them up and make it into a collage of the buzzer fingers and send it to him," Neumann said in a phone interview. "It's like we're buzzing in one last time, giving him a thumbs up, imbuing the piece of art with all of our touch and gratitude."
Another former contestant is in charge of the multimedia scrapbook, while two others are editing the video compilation, Neumann added.
They're among a slew of "Jeopardy!" fans and contestants expressing support for Trebek and applauding the way he announced his diagnosis through a YouTube video, in which he stoically vowed to continue working and "beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease."
Trebek, 78, said in a video posted to YouTube he will attempt to finish out this season of "Jeopardy!" "Just like 50,000 other people in the United States each year, this week, I was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer," he said. "Now, normally, the prognosis for this is not very encouraging, but I'm going to fight this, and I'm going to keep working, " he said in the video. "And with the love and support of my family and friends and with the help of your prayers also, I plan to beat the low survival rates statistics for this disease."
Trebek has hosted the show since 1984. He took a leave of absence in January 2018 after surgery to remove blood clots from his brain. In October 2018, he renewed his contract with Sony Pictures Television to continue as host of the quiz show through 2022.
Ken Jennings, who holds the record for the longest winning streak on "Jeopardy!" said on Twitter that Trebek is an institution like Walter Cronkite.
"I've said this before but Alex Trebek is in a way the last Cronkite: authoritative, reassuring TV voice you hear every night, almost to the point of ritual," Jennings said. "One thing I know for a fact: Alex is very aware of how much he means to millions of people, and how we will be pulling for him...I hope that's a comfort."
Pat Sajak, the host of "Wheel of Fortune," said he "would never bet" against Trebek.
"The Sajak family is deeply saddened to hear of Alex Trebek's struggle with cancer," he said in a tweet. "Our hearts go out to him and his family. But there is no one I know who is stronger and more determined, and I would never bet against him. We, and the entire country, are pulling for you, Alex."
Sajak's co-host Vanna White, tweeted her well-wishes too. "The clue: "He has the strength and determination to beat his cancer diagnosis." The response: "Who is Alex Trebek?" My family and I are sending love and tons of healing prayers to you Alex." she wrote.
"In the name of all that is good, please God, grant #AlexTrebek all of the health and vitality that you can! #teamtrebek," wrote LeVar Burton.
"The Bachelors" host Chris Harrison wrote: "Thinking and praying for fellow game show host and absolute legend Alex Trebek as he starts his fight with pancreatic cancer. God's speed my friend"
"Sending the wonderful and kind Alex Trebek and his beautiful family nothing but love and strength," wrote "Everybody Loves Raymond" star Brad Garrett.
"Sending all my love, thoughts and prayers to Alex Trebek. You are my hero." wrote "Dr. Ken" star Ken Jeong.
"I'm actually not sure if it should be its or it's, and in such a case pronouns don't really matter, so let me put it this way: Alex, kick pancreatic cancer's a--," wrote author Stephen King.
Mr. T shared a Bible verse in support of Trebek, who asked for prayers in his video message. "God Bless you Alex Trebek and anyone else who is Fighting Cancer. "Don't just keep the Faith.. Share the Faith!" Proverbs 3:5&6..." he wrote.
"Smart money says Alex Trebek beats this damned thing," wrote "Chopped" host Ted Allen.
"I'm saddened to hear about Alex Trebek's stage 4 pancreatic cancer diagnosis. Stay strong, friend," wrote Dr. Oz.
"Alex Trebek is hands down the person I've seen on my TV the most over the years and @Jeopardy is one of my favorite shows ever. Pulling for you Alex" wrote comedian Ike Barinholtz.
"Oh my God. If anyone can beat this, you can. Sending heartfelt good thoughts and best wishes for a speedy and full recovery. We love you, Uncle Alex," wrote former "Jeopardy!" contestant Brad Rutter.
"Sending so much love to Alex Trebek," wrote Busy Philipps.
"Our hearts go out to you, #Alextrebek, a member of our Disney-ABC family for so long. We admire your courage and determination, and in the words of Winston Churchill: "never, never, never, never give up," wrote Disney CEO Robert Iger.
"I pity the disease that messes with Alex Trebek. He is as formidable as he is likable. If you've met Alex then you know that makes him extremely formidable. #AlexTrebek is super human and superbly human," wrote comedian Dave Foley.
"Sending Love & Prayers To Alex Trebek. I've Been Playing JEOPARDY With Him Since I Was In My 20's,..Ahhh..30's," wrote Cher. "40's,..50's, OMG..60's I'LL NEVER BE TOO OLD TO PLAY. SON Used To Say "Cher...You're Such a Kid."
The CIA on Thursday tweeted in support of "Jeopardy!" host Trebek: "Q: This game show host visited CIA HQs & won the hearts of CIA's workforce," the CIA tweeted. "A: Who is Alex Trebek? On behalf of the entire CIA family, our thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time. This is not final @Jeopardy! You can beat this, #AlexTrebek!" the intelligence agency added.
Sony Pictures Television Chairman Mike Hopkins said Trebek has the company's support "as he tackles this challenge." "If anyone can beat this it's Alex," Hopkins said. "He has our full support as he tackles this challenge head-on."
"We commend Mr. Trebek for making this brave announcement and having such a positive attitude while facing pancreatic cancer," said Julie Fleshman, JD, MBA, president and CEO of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN). "We are working diligently to change outcomes for patients, but we need more people to get involved and help fund critical research."

May the prayers be answered. We will return in a moment.

Throughout the 80's and 90's, Star Search took the usual school talent showcase and put them against each other for the right to not only win cash, but to make sure the talent scouts are watching them to see what the right factors are. One competition that is the highlight of the original is the Tv spokesmodel competition and as RET Worldwide had done in the last few years, they highlighted the ladies that were important to not onoly wear a dress, but send it to a commercial break every time. And here to tell us more is Milou The Mime  in a pilot for a brand new series that may come to the channel soon. Keep in mind, this is all to teach about the finer points of television history. If you are interested in it, we'll give you the deets by teh end of the blog, but for now.......Here comes.....Milou!

Okay kids,  look at this.

Now it's CMT's turn.

CMT has ordered new game show "Nashville Squares," which is a spinoff of VH1's "Hip Hop Squares," TheWrap reports. Both are essentially music star-centric remakes of the old "Hollywood Squares."
The former Country Music Television has greenlit 10 episodes of its new game show. "Nashville Squares," which is a working title, is slated for summer.
"Nashville Squares" hails from Jesse Collins Entertainment, the same production company behind "Hip Hop Squares". On both shows, contestants rely on celebrity help to win money playing a giant tic-tac-toe game.

HQ Trivia made "quiz-tory" this week when it hosted its first live, in-person game with a $10,000 prize. Host Scott Rogowsky flew into Austin, Texas, to host the show (donned in a full HQ-branded suit) at Comcast NBCUniversal's SXSW pop-up.
Prior to the start, HQ projected a one-time link to the live show on a screen, which audience members had to load in order to compete. Everyone played along on their phones as Rogowsky cued the questions from an iPad.
Naturally, people took photos of the stage (and the screen with the link) before the show began and shared those images on social media. This meant that players who weren't in Austin or at the Comcast NBCUniversal house could join the game. (They only needed the access link.)
Nearly 3,000 virtual players were present at the start of the show, despite the fact that the house appeared to host hundreds of people, not thousands. Rogowsky acknowledged this, but he seemingly couldn't do anything about it. "Nearly 3,000 virtual players were present at the start of the show."
Still, it was fun to witness people congregate around the players in the audience who lasted until the final questions. It felt more like a communal experience, as if the HQ comments section entered the real world.
Only two actual audience members won, or at least made themselves known. The rest of the approximately 70 winners were not in the Comcast NBCUniversal house. Ultimately, every winner took home a prize of a little over $100, and the two live contestants joined Rogowsky onstage to talk about how they planned to use the money. One man said it'd cover his gas to get back to Dallas; the other used the opportunity to shout out Chicago and its pizza.
HQ isn't ruling out more live events. In a statement to The Verge, a spokesperson said that the company will "continue to explore opportunities for our players to enjoy HQ, whether on their phone or in person."

It turns out Jimmy Fallon's viral smash "Wheel of Musical Impressions" was only the beginning. Drawing inspiration from the wildly popular, celebrity-fueled musical segments made famous on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," NBC has hit play on a 10-episode order for the new unscripted series "That's My Jam."
Executive produced by Jimmy Fallon, the hourlong competition series will be infused with Fallon's one-of-a-kind comedic style, feel-good energy, and a carousel of his classic and brand-new music-based games, featuring a New Group of celebrities each week.
"We love playing these games on the show and it'll be fun to see it taken to the next level," said Fallon.
"Jimmy reinvented the late-night genre with his one-of-a-kind celebrity game segments that show our favorite stars at their most clever, creative and relaxed," said Meredith Ahr, President, Alternative and Reality Group, NBC Entertainment. "We're thrilled to bring viewers a new set of games and create a weekly party that is just as much fun to watch as it is to play along."

Faruq Taheed, where you at?

The box is locked, the lights are on and once again, Battlebots is back!!!!!

The epic robot-fighting series BattleBots is going back into production in April and will return for a second season on Discovery Channel and Science Channel this summer.
BattleBots features the world's biggest, baddest, strongest, and fastest next-generation robots from all over the world as they duke it out for robot fighting supremacy. 2018 Champion Bite Force will return to defend its title against top competition including perennial contenders Tombstone, Minotaur, Witch Doctor, Bronco, Bombshell, and Yeti.
The metal munching mayhem is coming back, from the bots to the builders, the flames, the spark and all the robot guts and glory. With each match consisting of two robots competing in a single, three-minute bout, the goal is to destroy or disable their opponent. If there is no knockout during the battle, a panel of judges will declare a victor.
The play-by-play team of Chris Rose and Kenny Florian will return to call all the action. Faruq Tauheed is back as the ring announcer.
"BattleBots is such a fun series and really resonated with both Discovery and Science viewers last year," said Nancy Daniels, Chief Brand Officer, Discovery and Factual. "We can't wait to once again work with the amazing teams from Whalerock and BattleBots to make the new season a smashing success."
BattleBots also highlights the design and build of each robot, bot builder backstories, and their pursuit of the BattleBots championship. Homemade robots built on a number of platforms and featuring a huge variety of deadly weapons go head-to-head, all captured by state-of-the-art onboard technology and cameras to enhance viewing and provide combat analytics.
BattleBots is a reimagined take on the killer robot combat sport from Whalerock Industries and the creators of the original BattleBots franchise, Ed Roski and Greg Munson. Executive producers are Lloyd Braun, Chris Cowan, Edward P. Roski (Trey), Greg Munson, Tom Gutteridge and Aaron Catling. Wyatt Channell will executive produce for Discovery Channel and Science Channel. .
