new Ownership of Gladiator Arena
Hackman Capital Partners is expected to cede ownership of Radford Studio Center, the historic L.A. production facility, to lenders after defaulting on a $1.1 billion mortgage, Bloomberg reported Wednesday.
Hackman, the world’s largest independent studio owner, reportedly told investors last month that it had suspended negotiations to restructure the debt on the 55-acre site, and is expected to turn over the facility to Goldman Sachs.
Studio owners have struggled to lease space due to a sharp downturn in film and TV production volume since 2022. Bloomberg reported that revenue from the property covered just 21% of Hackman’s debt service costs on the property as of last June.
In a statement to Variety, Hackman said it is working with the banks on a resolution.
“We are continuing to work with the Radford lenders on a path forward for this asset,” a spokesperson said. “This is a challenging time for all suppliers and independent studio owners and operators in the U.S. We have substantial capital behind us, hold 50 percent of our assets without debt, and remain geographically diverse, with 55 percent of our studios outside the U.S. This will help us to navigate through these troubled waters.”
Hackman acquired the Radford lot, formerly known as CBS Studio Center, from ViacomCBS for $1.85 billion in 2021. The purchase was part of an acquisition spree that also included the CBS Television City studio in the Fairfax District.
Hackman announced plans in 2023 to invest $1 billion to renovate the lot, which was built in 1928 and has been home to shows like “Gunsmoke,” “My Three Sons,” “Gilligan’s Island,” “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “American Gladiators” and “Seinfeld.”
The fourth season of The Traitors' U.S. version got off to the show's best start yet on Peacock.
The back-stabbing competition series hosted by Alan Cumming drew 638 million viewing minutes for the week of Jan. 5-11, according to preliminary Nielsen streaming data (season four premiered Jan. 8). Final numbers, which could change a little, will be out in a few weeks. I
f the early figure holds, the 638 million minutes will mark the best weekly total to date in the Nielsen streaming rankings for The Traitors. The previous high was 555 million minutes for the season three premiere in the same week of 2025 (in both cases, the season opened with three episodes); the early numbers for season four have it improving by about 15 percent year to year. It was also the most watched unscripted series on streaming platforms for the week.
Survivor has announced the grand prize of the "Survivor 50 Challenge."
CBS has announced that "Survivor 50 Challenge" winners selected from eligible entries in all 50 states will receive an exclusive invitation to attend the live finale of Survivor's upcoming 50th season. The finale will take place on Wednesday, May 20 in Los Angeles, CA, and air live on CBS.
The challenge winners will therefore earn a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness the conclusion of Survivor's milestone season. "The prize reveal marks the first of many fan-powered surprises as part of the 'In the Hands of the Fans' vote," CBS teased, "which will shape unforgettable moments with more announcements rolling out ahead of Survivor 50's season premiere."
CBS previously called on Survivor viewers across the United States to participate in the first-ever nationwide "Survivor 50 Challenge" in which there will be 50 hidden Immunity Idols in 50 states with 50 winners.
Beginning on January 30, fans can put their skills to the test by solving clues to the location of the 50 idols, which will be placed across 50 states, each with a winner.
The "Survivor 50 Challenge" will be an immersive, real-world scavenger hunt leading up to the premiere of Survivor's 50th season on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.

A popular streaming series set in a dystopian world has inspired a competition show based on that world.
No, we're not talking about Squid Game: The Challenge. It's Fallout, Prime Video's series set in a post-nuclear world and based on the huge video game franchise. The competition show is called Fallout Shelter, and it will feature "a series of escalating challenges, strategic dilemmas, and moral crossroads [in which] contestants must prove their ingenuity, teamwork, and resilience as they compete for safety, power, and ultimately a huge cash prize."
It will be set inside the bomb-proof Vault-Tec vaults seen in the series.
Fallout Shelter will join a roster of competition shows at Prime Video that also includes Beast Games and 007: Road to a Million.
There is, in fact, a connection to Squid Game: The Challenge with Fallout Shelter: Both are produced by Studio Lambert, the All3Media company that's also behind The Traitors). Studio Lambert and Fallout scripted series producer Kilter Films are producing Fallout Shelter in association with Amazon MGM Studios and Bethesda Game Studios, maker of the video game.
Stephen Lambert, Tim Harcourt, Jack Burgess, Toni Ireland, Stephen Yemoh, Stephen Lovelock and Amina Badresingh executive produce Fallout Shelter for Studio Lambert; Abi Lambrinos is the executive in charge of production. Also executive producer are Kilter Films' Jonathan Nolan, Lisa Joy and Athena Wickham and Bethesda Game Studios' James Altman and Todd Howard.
The CW is set to launch The Great American Road Rally: Celebrity Edition this spring.
Hosted by Ian Ziering (Beverly Hills, 90210), the series will premiere Wednesday, May 13 from 9-10 PM, airing weekly on the CW, culminating in a live two-hour finale on Wednesday, July 22, from 8-10 PM.
Set against a cross-country journey along iconic Route 66, the series blends competition, storytelling, and real-world impact as the country prepares to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States, the 100th Anniversary of Route 66, and other defining cultural moments in 2026, per The CW.
The official description: The series features ten celebrity-driven vehicles, each aligned with a charitable cause, embarking on a cross-country journey to raise awareness, drive fundraising, and activate local communities—transforming competition into contribution and the open road into a force for good.
Additional details, including celebrity participants, community events, and opportunities for fan participation, will be announced in the weeks ahead.
