Heather Abbey, a controversial Indigenous entrepreneur from Saskatoon, appeared on a Halloween-themed episode of Wheel of Fortune Tuesday night and walked away with $21,500 US after solving a puzzle with the phrase, "The Horror, The Horror."
Indigenous artists who watched the game show say the real horror is that Abbey still owes them thousands of dollars for a failed trade mission to Tokyo in July 2019, on top of the $62,000 of public money she owes Creative Saskatchewan, a provincial arts agency.
Abbey said she is making monthly instalment payments on her debt to Creative Saskatchewan. The arts agency confirmed that to CBC News.
But it's little consolation to the artists who say they're owed money.
"It kind of drains me emotionally to see her doing things like [appearing on Wheel of Fortune] still with no remorse for the artists and entrepreneurs she used and harmed," said Cree fashion designer Agnes Woodward, who lives in North Dakota, but is originally from Kawacatoose First Nation, about 115 kilometres north of Regina.
To take part in the trade mission, Woodward and her husband Whirlwind Bull, a painter, spent more than $6,000 on flights, hotel, food, transportation and a delegate fee of $400 each. The trip did not go as Abbey promised it would. Afterward Abbey sent the couple messages — provided to CBC News — in which she pledged to repay them $3,000.
"If you owe a lot of money to people and you're on national TV? Like, she has no remorse and no conscience," said Bull.
Bull said they paid $1,300 to cover hotel rooms, only to have Abbey check the Canadian delegation into a $20/night Airbnb at the last minute. CBC confirmed that a hotel in Tokyo is trying to collect $15,000 in cancellation and no-show fees after Abbey confirmed the group's reservation just hours before arrival, but failed to show up.
Bull said he made a joke of Abbey's appearance on the game show. " 'Oh good, now she's going to pay us back.' But I know she's not going to."
Abbey, a Cree woman from Little Pine First Nation, located 200 kilometres northwest of Saskatoon, has won numerous awards and government grants for empowering Indigenous artists and for her much-lauded website Indig Inc., an e-commerce platform that allows Indigenous artists to sell their homemade products. It is now offline.
She now lives in West Hollywood, Calif., studies at Los Angeles Film School and delivers food part-time.
"I'm passionate about creating authentic Native American content for the big screen and the small screen," she told Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak on the show.
In an article posted to West Hollywood Times, Abbey said she was hoping to win enough money to help pay for her education and take her family on a trip to Paris.
While “Survivor” fans patiently await news on when Season 41 might eventually premiere (the latest rumor has it airing in Spring 2021), there is some good news on the horizon as reruns of CBS’s reality TV show are coming to Netflix. Mark your calendars for November 15, as that’s when the series will start streaming on the platform for the first time, according to Netflix Queue. However, there’s a massive catch as Netflix has only acquired two cycles: “Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains” (Season 20) and “Survivor: Cagayan — Brains vs. Brawn vs. Beauty” (Season 28). Of course, all 40 seasons will continue to stream on CBS All Access.
Super Pay Cards was a staple on Canadian television and later via USA TV syndication. Hosted by Art James, the show enjoyed a run of several years in the USA and has since been seen on cable networks and now the TVS streaming post cable networks.
Other classic game shows on TVS Quiz Network include Password, Name That Tune, What's My Line, Beat The Clock, Celebrity Charades, Pass the Line, Play Your Hunch, To Tell the Truth and the Price is Right. TVS also airs several newly produced TVS Quiz Shows.

Kaitlyn Bristowe had a hard pill to swallow on Monday night’s episode of “Dancing With the Stars.”
The former “Bachelorette” star received a long score this week, and she was not too happy about the harsh criticism she received from judge Carrie Ann Inaba.
Lamenting that her “soul was crushed,” Bristowe said she wasn’t alone in feeling taken aback by Inaba’s comments.
“I’m starting to believe that it wasn’t just me. I came off and so many people were like, ‘What? I don’t remember that,'” Bristowe told People. “So people aren’t just sugarcoating it for me, because I want the feedback. I want to know if that’s what people saw. But to hear her say that, my soul was crushed, because I feel like this was one of the dances where I went out there and was like, ‘I’m going to hit this so hard and I’m not giving up.’ “
She added: “To hear that, I felt so defeated after. That was my all. I know I could have done better in some places but I don’t feel like I ever gave up.”
During her critique, Inaba said: “It felt like at moments you gave up. You had a moment of chaos there and I saw it in your eyes, and I felt like your spirit dropped.”
But despite Bristowe’s complaints, she’ll go on to dance another week on the ABC series. “Cheer” star Monica Aldama and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy were the ones who got eliminated last night.
Aldama told ET that she and Chmerkovskiy are “grateful to have been part of the competition” and that Val has taught her “way more than just dance.”
If only we'd bring back Bob Saget.....
On Friday, Xbox head Phil Spencer took part in an Xbox FanFest livestream, which was supposed to run alongside an online quiz. Due to technical issues, the quiz could not be held but it did lead to Spencer suggesting that Microsoft make its own trivia game, which quickly led to speculation from fans. ‘Maybe we should even be building our own trivia game, like from our past, that allows people to play a trivia game more often, maybe that could happen,’ he said.
For those who may not know, 1 vs 100 was initially a TV game show and was later adapted into an online title for the Xbox 360 in 2009. How it worked was one player would be chosen as ‘The One,’ while another 100 players would be ‘The Mob.’ A question would be posed and if The One gets it right, any players who were part of The Mob, and got it wrong, would be eliminated. If The One gets the answer wrong, the game ends and the winnings are divided between the Mob members. 1 vs 100 offered actual prizes, such as Microsoft Points and free games but, despite its popularity, it only lasted two seasons and ended in 2010.

I heard a rumor...............
......that “Dancing With the Stars” host Tyra Banks is shooting down reports claiming that she banned stars of Bravo’s “Real Housewives” franchise from appearing on ABC’s reality competition show.
“This is 100% untrue,” said a statement released from Banks’ publicist. “She’s a huge fan of the ‘Housewives’ and everyone knows Tyra is a businesswoman first. As a businesswoman, why would she say anything against the ‘Housewives’? She has nothing to do with casting.”
“She loves Andy [Cohen],” Banks’ publicist added. “She’s been on ‘Watch What Happens Live’ several times. She’s a huge fan of the Clubhouse.”
A tabloid report released this week claimed that Banks “has never been a fan of the ‘Housewives,’ but the real reason she doesn’t want them on her show is that Bethenny Frankel, NeNe Leakes and Teresa Giudice do not make headlines anymore.”
The story also said that Banks, “made it clear that she didn’t want any more ‘Housewives’ in her ballroom.”
The report prompted former “Real Housewives of New York” Bethenny Frankel to fire back at Banks.
In a since-deleted Tweet, Frankel wrote: “Good to know @tyrabanks has clumped me in her no more housewives mandate on @DancingABC. Also good to know-their casting director Deena, who I has asked me to be on that show multiple x in the last decade. I’m also no longer a housewife, but nobody is bigger than the game Tyra.”
However, Frankel quickly backtracked, attributing her change of heart to the good relationship she has with a “Dancing With the Stars” casting director.
“I deleted that last post Bc I really like & have a great relationship with Deena Katz from #DWTS. If @tyrabanks wants to come on my podcast, she is welcome anytime as she has built a successful brand on her own in her own way. #justbwithbethenny,” she wrote.
“Dancing With the Stars” has had several “Real Housewives” stars appear as contestants during past seasons, including Lisa Vanderpump, Lisa Rinna and Erika Girardi of the Beverly Hills edition, as well as NeNe Leakes, Kim Zolciak-Biermann and Kim Fields from Atlanta.
You know ever since we fell in love with her on "Social Distance-Sing," last night, she released a 7-minute long music video to the masses. and here it is. Natalie Lander doing "possessed."
Then you know it's time for Livewire! Until next time, play on playas.
